Psalms 73
1 A psalm of Asaph. Yes, God is good to the upright, the Lord to the pure in heart.
Quanto è buono Dio con i giusti, con gli uomini dal cuore puro! Salmo. Di Asaf.
2 But my feet were almost gone, my steps had nearly slipped,
Per poco non inciampavano i miei piedi, per un nulla vacillavano i miei passi,
3 through envy of godless braggarts, when I saw how well they fared.
perché ho invidiato i prepotenti, vedendo la prosperità dei malvagi.
4 For never a pang have they, their body is sound and sleek.
Non c'è sofferenza per essi, sano e pasciuto è il loro corpo.
5 They have no trouble like mortals, no share in human pain.
Non conoscono l'affanno dei mortali e non sono colpiti come gli altri uomini.
6 So they wear their pride like a necklace, they put on the garment of wrong,
Dell'orgoglio si fanno una collana e la violenza è il loro vestito.
7 their eyes stand out with fatness, their heart swells with riotous fancies.
Esce l'iniquità dal loro grasso, dal loro cuore traboccano pensieri malvagi.
8 Their speech is mocking and evil, condescending and crooked their speech.
Scherniscono e parlano con malizia, minacciano dall'alto con prepotenza.
9 They have set their mouth in the heavens, while their tongue struts about on the earth.
Levano la loro bocca fino al cielo e la loro lingua percorre la terra.
10 Small wonder that people resort to them, and drink deep draughts of their lore.
Perciò seggono in alto, non li raggiunge la piena delle acque.
11 “How does God know?” they say, “And has the Most High any knowledge?”
Dicono: «Come può saperlo Dio? C'è forse conoscenza nell'Altissimo?».
12 See! These are the godless, with wealth and ease ever increasing.
Ecco, questi sono gli empi: sempre tranquilli, ammassano ricchezze.
13 Yes, in vain have I kept my heart pure, and washed my hands in innocence;
Invano dunque ho conservato puro il mio cuore e ho lavato nell'innocenza le mie mani,
14 for all the day long was I plagued not a morning but I was chastised.
poiché sono colpito tutto il giorno, e la mia pena si rinnova ogni mattina.
15 But to resolve to speak like they do would be treachery to your children.
Se avessi detto: «Parlerò come loro», avrei tradito la generazione dei tuoi figli.
16 So I sought to understand it, but a wearisome task it seemed:
Riflettevo per comprendere: ma fu arduo agli occhi miei,
17 till I entered the holy world of God and saw clearly their destiny.
finché non entrai nel santuario di Dio e compresi qual è la loro fine.
18 Yes, you set them on slippery places; down to destruction you hurl them.
Ecco, li poni in luoghi scivolosi, li fai precipitare in rovina.
19 One moment and then what a horror of ruin! They are finished and ended in terrors.
Come sono distrutti in un istante, sono finiti, periscono di spavento!
20 Like a dream, when one wakes, shall they be, whose phantoms the waker despises.
Come un sogno al risveglio, Signore, quando sorgi, fai svanire la loro immagine.
21 So my bitterness of mind and the pain that stabbed my heart
Quando si agitava il mio cuore e nell'intimo mi tormentavo,
22 show how dull I was and stupid just like a beast before you.
io ero stolto e non capivo, davanti a te stavo come una bestia.
23 But I am always with you, you have hold of my right hand.
Ma io sono con te sempre: tu mi hai preso per la mano destra.
24 By a plan of yours you guide me and will afterward take me to glory.
Mi guiderai con il tuo consiglio e poi mi accoglierai nella tua gloria.
25 Whom have I in the heavens but you? And on earth there is none I desire beside you.
Chi altri avrò per me in cielo? Fuori di te nulla bramo sulla terra.
26 Though flesh and heart waste away, yet God is the rock of my heart, yet God is my portion forever.
Vengono meno la mia carne e il mio cuore; ma la roccia del mio cuore è Dio, è Dio la mia sorte per sempre.
27 For see! Those who are far from you must perish, you destroy all who are false to you.
Ecco, perirà chi da te si allontana, tu distruggi chiunque ti è infedele.
28 But I am happy when close to God; the Lord my God I have made my refuge, that I may recount all the things you have done.
Il mio bene è stare vicino a Dio: nel Signore Dio ho posto il mio rifugio, per narrare tutte le tue opere presso le porte della città di Sion.
