< Psalms 46 >
1 For the leader. Of the Korahites, on alamoth. A song. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2 So we have no fear, though earth should change, and the hills totter into the heart of the ocean.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth changes, and though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas,
3 Let its waters roar and foam, let the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. On our side is the Lord of hosts, our sure defence is the God of Jacob. (Selah)
though the waters of it roar and are troubled, though the mountains tremble with the swelling of it. (Selah)
4 A river there is, whose streams make glad God’s city, the home the Most High has hallowed.
There is a river, the streams of which make the city of God glad, the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High.
5 God is within her: she cannot be shaken. God helps her at the turn of the morning.
God is in the midst of her. She shall not be moved. God will help her, and that right early.
6 Nations roared, kingdoms tottered: he uttered his voice, earth melted away.
The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved, he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
7 On our side is the Lord of hosts, our sure defence is the God of Jacob.
Jehovah of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. (Selah)
8 Come and see what the Lord has done, working appallingly in the earth.
Come, behold the works of Jehovah, what desolations he has made in the earth.
9 He stills wars to the ends of the earth – breaking the bow, snapping the spear, burning the chariots in the fire.
He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth. He breaks the bow, and cuts the spear in two. He burns the chariots in the fire.
10 “Refrain; and know surely that I am God, high over the nations, high over the world.”
Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.
11 On our side is the Lord of Hosts, our sure defence is the God of Jacob. (Selah)
Jehovah of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. (Selah)
