Matthew 3
1 About that time John the Baptist first appeared, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judea:
੧ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ, ਯਹੂਦਿਯਾ ਦੇ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਚਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਆਖਣ ਲੱਗਾ,
2 “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
੨ਤੋਬਾ ਕਰੋ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਸਵਰਗ ਰਾਜ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੈ।
3 John was the one who was spoken of in the prophet Isaiah, where he says – ‘The voice of one crying aloud in the wilderness: “Make ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.”’
੩ਇਹ ਉਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਹ ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਯਸਾਯਾਹ ਨਬੀ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ, ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੁਕਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼, ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰੋ, ਉਹ ਦੇ ਰਾਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਕਰੋ।
4 John’s clothes were made of camels’ hair, with a leather strap around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.
੪ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦੇ ਬਸਤਰ ਊਠ ਦੇ ਵਾਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਨ, ਚਮੜੇ ਦੀ ਪੇਟੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਲੱਕ ਨਾਲ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਟਿੱਡੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਜੰਗਲੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਦ ਸੀ ।
5 At that time Jerusalem, and all Judea, as well as the whole district of the Jordan, went out to him
੫ਤਦ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਯਹੂਦਿਯਾ ਅਤੇ ਯਰਦਨ ਦੇ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ।
6 and were baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.
੬ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਯਰਦਨ ਨਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਸਨ।
7 But when John saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to receive his baptism, he said to them, “You children of snakes! Who has prompted you to seek refuge from the coming judgment?
੭ਪਰ ਜਦ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਜੋ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਦੂਕੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਲੈਣ ਨੂੰ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਹੇ ਸੱਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੱਚਿਓ! ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਹਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਭੱਜਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਸ ਨੇ ਚਿਤਾਵਨੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ?”
8 Let your life, then, prove your repentance;
੮ਸੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਤੋਬਾ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਫਲ ਲਿਆਓ।
9 and do not think that you can say among yourselves ‘Abraham is our ancestor,’ for I tell you that out of these stones God is able to raise descendants for Abraham!
੯ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਨਾ ਸੋਚੋ ਕਿ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਸਾਡਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਵੀ ਸੰਤਾਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
10 Already the axe is lying at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that fails to bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
੧੦ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਕੁਹਾੜਾ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੜ੍ਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਸੋ ਹਰੇਕ ਰੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ, ਵੱਢਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
11 I, indeed, baptize you with water to teach repentance; but he who is coming after me is more powerful than I, and I am not fit even to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
੧੧ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਫ਼ਿਰਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਬਲਵੰਤ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਜੁੱਤੀ ਦਾ ਤਸਮਾ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਣ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ, ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।
12 His winnowing-fan is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing-floor, and store his grain in the barn, but the chaff he will burn with a fire that cannot be put out.”
੧੨ਉਹ ਦੀ ਤੰਗੁਲੀ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੜ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਣਕ ਨੂੰ ਗੋਦਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਮਾਂ ਕਰੇਗਾ, ਪਰ ਤੂੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾੜੇਗਾ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਕਦੇ ਬੁਝਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan, to John, to be baptized by him.
੧੩ਤਦ ਯਿਸੂ ਗਲੀਲ ਤੋਂ ਯਰਦਨ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ, ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਕੋਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਲੈਣ ਨੂੰ ਆਇਆ।
14 But John tried to prevent him. “I need to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why have you come to me?”
੧੪ਪਰ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਕਹਿ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਿਆ, ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਲੈਣ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ?
15 “This is the way it should be for now,” Jesus answered, “because we should do everything that God requires.” So John agreed.
੧੫ਪਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਹੁਣ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਾਰਮਿਕਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰੀਏ। ਤਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
16 After the baptism of Jesus, and just as he came up from the water, the heavens opened, and he saw the Spirit of God coming down like a dove and resting on him,
੧੬ਜਦ ਯਿਸੂ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਲੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਪਰ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਖੋ, ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਘੁੱਗੀ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਉੱਤਰਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਦੇਖਿਆ।
17 and from the heavens there came a voice which said, “This is my dearly loved son, who brings me great joy.”
੧੭ਅਤੇ ਵੇਖੋ ਇਹ ਸਵਰਗੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹਾਂ।
