Matthew 23
1 Then Jesus, speaking to the crowds and to his disciples, said,
Dann wandte sich Jesus an das Volk und an seine Jünger.
2 “The teachers of the Law and the Pharisees now occupy the chair of Moses.
"Moses Lehrstuhl", so begann er, "haben jetzt die Schriftgelehrten und die Pharisäer besetzt.
3 Therefore practice and lay to heart everything that they preach but do not practice.
Alles nun, was sie euch sagen, das tut und haltet! Nach ihren Werken aber sollt ihr euch nicht richten. Denn sie lehren anders, als sie tun.
4 While they make up heavy loads and pile them on other people’s shoulder’s they decline, themselves, to lift a finger to move them.
Sie binden Bündel schwerer Lasten zusammen und legen sie den Leuten auf die Schulter; sie selbst aber haben keine Lust, diese Lasten auch nur mit einer Fingerspitze zu berühren.
5 All their actions are done to attract attention. They widen their phylacteries, and increase the size of their tassels,
Bei all ihrem Tun wollen sie die öffentliche Aufmerksamkeit erregen: Sie tragen breite Gebetsriemen und lange Mantelquasten.
6 and like to have the place of honor at dinner, and the best seats in the synagogues,
Beim Mahl sitzen sie gern obenan, und in der gottesdienstlichen Versammlung wollen sie die Ehrenplätze haben;
7 and to be greeted in the markets with respect, and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by everybody.
auf den Straßen soll man sie voll Ehrfurcht grüßen, und sie lassen sich den Namen 'Meister' geben.
8 But do not allow yourselves to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one teacher, and you yourselves are all brothers and sisters.
Ihr aber sollt euch nicht so nennen lassen; denn Einer ist euer Meister, und ihr seid alle Brüder.
9 And do not call anyone on the earth your ‘Father,’ for you have only one Father, the heavenly Father.
Ihr sollt auch niemand auf Erden euern 'Vater' nennen; denn Einer ist euer Vater: der Vater im Himmel.
10 Nor must you allow yourselves to be called ‘leaders,’ for you have only one leader, the Christ.
Auch sollt ihr euch nicht 'Lehrer' nennen lassen; denn Einer ist euer Lehrer: der Messias.
11 The person who wants to be the greatest among you must be your servant.
Der Größte unter euch soll allen anderen dienen.
12 Whoever exalts themselves will be humbled, and whoever humbles themselves will be exalted.
Wer sich selbst erhöht, der soll erniedrigt werden; und wer sich selbst erniedrigt, der soll erhöht werden.
13 But alas for you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees, hypocrites that you are! You turn the key of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you do not go in yourselves, and do not allow those who try to go in to do so.
Weh euch, ihr Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer, ihr Heuchler! Ihr schließt die Tür des Himmelreiches vor den Leuten zu. Ihr selbst geht nicht hinein und laßt auch die nicht ein, die es gern wollen.
15 Alas for you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, hypocrites that you are! You scour land and sea to make a single convert, and, when they are gained, you make them twice as deserving of Gehenna as you are yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
Weh euch, ihr Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer, ihr Heuchler! Ihr zieht über Land und Meer, um einen einzigen Jünger zu gewinnen. Und ist euch das gelungen, so macht ihr ihn zu einem Kind der Hölle, das zweimal ärger ist als ihr! (Geenna g1067)
16 Alas for you, you blind guides! You say ‘if any swear by the Temple, their oath counts for nothing; but, if anyone swears by the gold of the Temple, their oath is binding them’!
Weh euch, ihr blinden Führer! Ihr sagt: Wer bei dem Tempel schwört, des Eid gilt nichts. Wer aber bei dem Gold des Tempels schwört, der ist gebunden.
17 Fools that you are and blind! Which is the more important? The gold? Or the Temple which has given sacredness to the gold?
Ihr Toren und ihr Blinden! Was steht denn höher: das Gold oder der Tempel, der doch dem Gold erst die Weihe gibt?
18 You say, too, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, their oath counts for nothing, but, if anyone swears by the offering placed on it, their oath is binding on them’!
Wer bei dem Altar schwört — so sagt ihr ferner —, des Eid gilt nichts. Wer aber bei der Opfergabe auf dem Altar schwört, der ist gebunden.
19 Blind indeed! Which is the more important? The offering? Or the altar which gives sacredness to the offering?
Ihr Blinden! Was steht denn höher: die Opfergabe oder der Altar, der doch der Opfergabe erst die Weihe gibt?
20 Therefore a person, swearing by the altar, swears by it and by all that is on it,
Wer also bei dem Altar schwört, der schwört bei ihm und allem, was darauf ist.
21 and a person, swearing by the Temple, swears by it and by him who dwells in it,
Und wer beim Tempel schwört, der schwört bei ihm und dem, der darinnen wohnt.
22 while a person, swearing by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it.
Und wer beim Himmel schwört, der schwört bei Gottes Thron und dem, der darauf sitzt.
23 Alas for you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees, hypocrites that you are! You pay tithes on mint, fennel, and caraway seed, and have neglected the weightier matters of the Law – justice, mercy, and good faith. These last you ought to have put into practice, without neglecting the first.
Weh euch, ihr Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer, ihr Heuchler! Von Minze, Dill und Kümmel gebt ihr Zehnten, was aber im Gesetz viel höher steht: Gerechtigkeit, Barmherzigkeit und Treue — das laßt ihr außer acht. Dies solltet ihr vor allem üben, doch jenes auch nicht unterlassen.
24 You blind guides, to strain out a gnat and to swallow a camel!
Ihr blinden Führer, die Mücke schafft ihr weg, und das Kamel verschluckt ihr!
25 Alas for you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees, hypocrites that you are! You clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside they are filled with the results of greed and self-indulgence.
Weh euch, ihr Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer, ihr Heuchler! Die Becher und die Schüsseln haltet ihr von außen rein, inwendig aber sind sie voller Raub und Gier!
26 You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the dish, so that the outside may become clean as well.
Du blinder Pharisäer, erst reinige den Becher drinnen, dann ist sein Äußeres schon von selber rein!
27 Alas for you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees, hypocrites that you are! You are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed look fair outside, while inside they are filled with dead people’s bones and all kinds of filth.
Weh euch, ihr Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer, ihr Heuchler! Ihr gleicht getünchten Gräbern
28 It is the same with you. Outwardly, and to others, you have the look of religious people, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and sin.
So seht auch ihr von außen gerecht und ehrbar aus, inwendig aber seid ihr voller Heuchelei und Frevel.
29 Alas for you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees, hypocrites that you are! You build the tombs of the prophets, and decorate the monuments of religious people,
Weh euch, ihr Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer, ihr Heuchler! Ihr pflegt die Gräber der Propheten und schmückt die Grabdenkmäler der Gerechten,
30 and say ‘Had we been living in the days of our ancestors, we should have taken no part in their murder of the prophets!’
und dabei rühmt ihr euch: 'Wenn wir unserer Väter Zeit gelebt, wir hätten nicht mit ihnen der Propheten Blut vergossen.'
31 By doing this you are furnishing evidence against yourselves that you are true children of the people who murdered the prophets.
Damit bezeugt ihr aber selbst, daß ihr die Söhne der Prophetenmörder seid!
32 Go on then, finish what your ancestors began!
So macht denn ihr das Maß der Sünden eurer Väter voll!
Ihr Schlangen und ihr Natternbrut, wie wollt ihr nur der Hölle Strafgericht entrinnen? (Geenna g1067)
34 That is why I send you prophets, wise people, and teachers of the Law, some of whom you will crucify and kill, and some of whom you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from town to town;
Darum seht: ich sende euch Propheten, Weise, Schriftgelehrte. Die einen werdet ihr in euern Versammlungshäusern geißeln und sie verfolgen von einer Stadt zur anderen.
35 so that on your heads may fall every drop of innocent blood spilt on earth, from the blood of innocent Abel down to that of Zechariah, Barachiah’s son, whom you murdered between the Temple and the altar.
So wird sich an euch rächen all das unschuldige Blut, das da vergossen ist auf Erden: Vom Blut des gerechten Abel an bis auf Sacharjas Blut, des Sohnes Berechjas, den ihr gemordet zwischen Tempel und Altar.
36 All this, I tell you, will come home to the present generation.
Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Die Strafe für das alles wird kommen über dies Geschlecht!
37 Jerusalem! Jerusalem! She who slays the prophets and stones the messengers sent to her – Oh, how often have I wished to gather your children around me, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not come!
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, du tötest die Propheten und steinigst Gottes Boten! Wie oft habe ich deine Kinder um mich sammeln wollen, wie eine Henne ihre Küchlein unter ihre Flügel sammelt! Doch ihr habt nicht gewollt!
38 Verily, your house is left to you desolate!
Darum soll euch euer Haus verödet liegen!
39 For nevermore, I tell you, will you see me, until you say – ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
Denn ich sage euch: Ihr sollt mich ferner nicht mehr sehen, bis ihr einst ruft: 'Gesegnet sei, der da kommt im Namen des Herrn!'"
