< Matthew 16 >

1 Here the Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and, to test Jesus, requested him to show them some sign from the heavens.
Fariisonnii fi Saduuqonni gara Yesuus dhufanii akka inni samii irraa mallattoo isaan argisiisu gaafachuudhaan isa qoran.
2 But Jesus answered, “In the evening you say ‘It will be fine weather, for the sky is as red as fire.’
Innis akkana jedhee deebise; “Isin yeroo galgalaaʼutti, ‘Samiin diimateera; caama taʼa’ jettu;
3 But in the morning you say ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is as red as fire and threatening.’ You learn to read the sky; yet you are unable to read the signs of the times!
ganama immoo, ‘Samiin diimatee duumessaaʼeeraatii harʼa bokkaan jabaan ni rooba’ jettu. Isin bifa samii addaan baasuu ni beektu; garuu mallattoo baraa addaan baasuu hin dandeessan.
4 A wicked and unfaithful generation is asking for a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” So he left them and went away.
Dhaloonni hamaa fi ejjaan mallattoo barbaada; garuu mallattoo Yoonaas malee mallattoon hin kennamuuf.” Yesuusis isaan dhiisee deeme.
5 Now the disciples had crossed to the opposite shore, and had forgotten to take any bread.
Barattoonni yommuu galaanicha ceʼanitti buddeena fudhachuu irraanfatan.
6 Presently Jesus said to them, “Take care and be on your guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
Yesuusis, “Beekkadhaa; raacitii Fariisotaatii fi Saduuqotaa irraa of eeggadhaa” isaaniin jedhe.
7 But the disciples began talking among themselves about their having brought no bread.
Isaanis, “Kun sababii nu buddeena hin fidatiniif” jedhanii waan kana walii wajjin haasaʼan.
8 On noticing this, Jesus said, “Why are you talking among yourselves about your being short of bread, you of little faith?
Yesuusis waan isaan haasaʼan beekee akkana jedhee gaafate; “Yaa warra amantii xinnoo nana, isin maaliif waaʼee buddeena dhabuu keessanii walii wajjin dudubbattu?
9 Don’t you yet see, nor remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you took away?
Isin amma iyyuu hin hubattanii? Buddeenni shan nama kuma shaniif dhiʼeeffamee gundoo hammam guutuu akka walitti qabdan hin yaadattanii?
10 Nor yet the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you took away?
Yookaan buddeenni torba nama kuma afuriif dhiʼeeffamee hambaa gundoo hammam guutuu akka walitti qabdan hin yaadattanii?
11 How is it that you do not see that I was not speaking about bread? Be on your guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
Akka ani waaʼee buddeenaa isinitti dubbachaa hin turin isin akkamitti hin hubanne? Garuu raacitii Fariisotaatii fi Saduuqotaa irraa of eeggadhaa.”
12 Then they understood that he had told them to be on their guard, not against the leaven of bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Isaanis ergasii akka inni akka isaan raacitii buddeenaa irraa of eeggataniif utuu hin taʼin akka barsiisa Fariisotaatii fi Saduuqotaa irraa of eeggataniif isaanitti himaa ture hubatan.
13 On coming into the region of Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked his disciples this question – “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
Yesuus yeroo gara biyya Fiiliphoos Qiisaariyaa dhufetti, “Namoonni Ilma Namaatiin eenyu jedhu?” jedhee barattoota isaa gaafate.
14 “Some say John the Baptist,” they answered, “Others, however, say that he is Elijah, while others again say Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.”
Isaanis, “Namoonni tokko tokko inni Yohannis Cuuphaa dha jedhu; warri kaan inni Eeliyaas jedhu; kaan immoo inni Ermiyaas yookaan raajota keessaa isa tokko dha jedhu” jedhanii deebisan.
15 “But you,” he said, “who do you say that I am?”
Innis, “Isin hoo? Eenyu anaan jettu?” jedhee gaafate.
16 To this Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Simoon Phexrosis, “Ati Kiristoos, Ilma Waaqa jiraataa ti” jedhee deebise.
17 “Blessed are you, Simon, Son of Jonah,” Jesus replied. “For no human being has revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
Yesuus immoo akkana jedhee deebiseef; “Yaa Simoon ilma Yoonaa, ati eebbifamaa dha; kana abbaa koo isa samii irraatu siif ibse malee nama miti.
18 Yes, and I say to you, your name is ‘Peter’ – a Rock, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail over it. (Hadēs g86)
Ani sittin hima; ati Phexrosii dha; kattaa kana irratti waldaa kiristaanaa koo nan ijaara; karri gahaannamis ishee hin moʼatu. (Hadēs g86)
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be held in heaven to be forbidden, and whatever you allow on earth will be held in heaven to be allowed.”
Ani furtuu mootummaa samii siifin kenna; wanni ati lafa irratti hiitu kam iyyuu samii irratti ni hidhama; wanni ati lafa irratti hiiktu kam iyyuu samii irrattis ni hiikama.”
20 Then he charged his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.
Ergasiis akka isaan akka inni Kiristoos taʼe nama tokkotti illee hin himneef barattoota isaa akeekkachiise.
21 At that time Jesus Christ began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem, and undergo much suffering at the hands of the elders, and chief priests, and teachers of the Law, and be put to death, and rise on the third day.
Yesuus yeroo sanaa jalqabee akka Yerusaalem dhaqee harka maanguddootaatti, harka luboota hangafootaattii fi harka barsiistota seeraatti waan hedduun dhiphachuu qabu, akka ajjeefamuu qabuu fi akka guyyaa sadaffaatti immoo duʼaa kaafamu barattoota isaatiif ibsuu jalqabe.
22 But Peter took Jesus aside, and began to rebuke him. “Master,” he said, “please God that will never be your fate!”
Phexrosis kophaatti baasee, “Yaa Gooftaa, kun gonkumaa hin taʼin! Kun sirraa haa fagaatu!” jedhee isa ifachuu jalqabe.
23 Jesus, however, turning to Peter, said, “Out of my way, Satan! You are a hindrance to me; for you look at things, not as God does, but as a person does.”
Yesuus garuu of irra garagalee Phexrosiin, “Yaa Seexana nana! Na duubatti deebiʼi! Ati gufuu natti taateerta; ati kan namaa yaadda malee kan Waaqaa hin yaadduutii” jedhe.
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wishes to walk in my steps, they must renounce self, and take up their cross, and follow me.
Ergasii Yesuus barattoota isaatiin akkana jedhe; “Namni kam iyyuu yoo na faana dhufuu barbaade, inni of haa ganu. Fannoo ofii isaa baadhatees na duukaa haa buʼu.
25 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, and whoever, for my sake, loses his life will find it.
Namni lubbuu isaa oolfachuu barbaadu kam iyyuu lubbuu isaa ni dhabaatii; garuu namni naaf jedhee lubbuu isaa dhabu kam iyyuu lubbuu isaa ni argata.
26 What good will it do a person to gain the whole world, if he forfeits his life? Or what will a person give that is of equal value with his life?
Namni yoo addunyaa guutuu argatee lubbuu isaa immoo dhabe, buʼaan isaa maali? Yookaan namni qooda lubbuu isaa maal kennuu dandaʼa?
27 For the Son of Man is to come in his Father’s glory, with his angels, and then he will give to everyone what his actions deserve.
Ilmi Namaa ulfina Abbaa isaatiin ergamoota isaa wajjin dhufuuf jiraatii; innis yeroo sana tokkoo tokkoo namaatiif akkuma hojii isaatti gatii isaa ni kenna.
28 I tell you, some of those who are standing here will not know death until they have seen the Son of Man coming into his kingdom.”
“Ani dhuguman isinitti hima; warra as dhadhaabachaa jiran keessaa namoonni tokko tokko hamma utuu Ilmi Namaa mootummaa isaatiin dhufuu arganitti duʼa hin dhandhaman.”
