1 An oracle. The message of the Lord to Israel through Malachi.
Raajii dubbii Waaqayyoo kan karaa Miilkiyaasiin gara Israaʼel dhufe.
2 “I have loved you,” says the Lord. “But you ask, ‘How have you shown love to us?’ Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” explains the Lord of hosts, “yet I loved Jacob,
“Ani isin jaalladheera” jedha Waaqayyo. “Isin immoo, ‘Ati akkamitti nu jaallatte?’ jettanii gaafattu. “Esaawu obboleessa Yaaqoob hin turree?” jedha Waaqayyo. “Taʼus ani Yaaqoobin jaalladhee,
3 but hated Esau, and made his mountains a desolation, and transformed his ancestral land into a wilderness.
Esaawun garuu jibbeera; ani tulluuwwan isaa lafa onaa godhee dhaala isaas waangoo gammoojjiitiif kenneera.”
4 When Edom says, ‘We are beaten down, but we will return and rebuild the ruined places’” the Lord of hosts says, “They may build, but I will throw down. They will be called, ‘The border land of wickedness,’ the people against whom the Lord is angry forever.
Edoomiyaas, “Nu caccabnu iyyuu, diigama sana deebisnee ni ijaarra” jedha taʼa. Garuu Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu akkana jedha: “Isaan ni ijaaru taʼa; ani garuu nan diiga. Isaan Biyya Hamaa, saba yeroo hunda dheekkamsa Waaqayyoo jala jiraatu jedhamanii ni waamamu.
5 Your own eyes will see this, and you will say, ‘the Lord’s greatness reaches beyond the border of Israel.’”
Isin waan kana ija keessaniin argitanii, ‘Daarii biyya Israaʼeliin gamatti iyyuu Waaqayyo Guddaa dha!’ jettu.
6 “A son honors his father and servant their master. If I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the one who fears me? So says the Lord to you, priests who despise my name. You ask, ‘How have we despised your name?’
“Ilmi abbaa isaa, garbichis gooftaa isaa ulfeessa. Egaa ergan abbaa taʼe, ulfinni naaf malu meerre ree? Ergan gooftaa taʼe, kabajni naaf malu meerree ree?” jedha Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu. “Yaa luboota; isintu maqaa koo tuffata. “Isin garuu, ‘Nu akkamiin maqaa kee tuffanne?’ jettanii gaafattu.
7 You offer on my altar bread that is polluted. You ask, ‘How have we polluted it?’ Because you say, ‘The table of the Lord is contemptible.’
“Isin nyaata xuraaʼaa iddoo aarsaa koo irratti dhiʼeessitu. “Isin garuu, ‘Nu akkamiin si xureessine’ jettanii gaafattu. “Maaddiin Waaqayyoo tuffatamaa dha jechuudhaan.
8 When you offer the blind animal for sacrifice, ‘It doesn’t matter!’ And when you offer the lame and the sick ‘It doesn’t matter!’ Give an animal like that to your governor; will he be pleased with it? Will he receive you favorably?” says the Lord of hosts.
Isin yoo horii jaamaa aarsaadhaaf dhiʼeessitan, sun balleessaa mitii? Isin yoo horii naafa yookaan horii dhukkubsataa naaf qaltan, sun balleessaa mitii? Mee horii sana bulchaa keessaniif kennuu yaalaa! Inni isinitti ni gammadaa? Inni isin harkaa ni fudhataa?” jedha Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu.
9 Now, plead for the favor of God with such an offering, so that he may be gracious to us. “Would I receive any of you favorably?” says the Lord of hosts.
“Egaa mee akka inni garaa nuu laafuuf Waaqa nuuf kadhadhaa. Isin yoo aarsaa akkasii qabattanii dhiʼaattan inni isin harkaa ni fudhataa?” jedha Waaqayyo Waan Hunda dandaʼu.
10 “If only one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you could not kindle useless fires on my altar! I have no pleasure in you,” says the Lord of hosts, “Nor will I accept an offering from your hand.
“Isin keessaa namni tokko akka isin ibidda faayidaa hin qabne iddoo aarsaa koo irratti hin bobeessineef utuu balbala mana qulqullummaa cufee jiraatee! Ani isinitti hin gammadu; aarsaa tokko iyyuu isin harkaa hin fudhu” jedha Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu.
11 For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name is great among the nations, and in every place they offer to my name a pure offering. For my name is great among the nations,” says the Lord of hosts.
“Maqaan koo baʼa aduutii kaasee hamma lixa aduutti saboota gidduutti guddaa ni taʼa. Iddoo hundatti ixaannii fi aarsaan qulqulluun ni kennama; maqaan koo saboota gidduutti guddaa ni taʼaatii” jedha Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu.
12 “But you profane me when you say, ‘The table of the Lord is polluted, and its food is contemptible.’
“Isin garuu maaddiin Gooftaa ‘xuraaʼaa dha’ nyaanni isaas ‘tuffatamaa dha’ jechuudhaan maqaa koo xureessitu.
13 You say also, ‘How tired we are of all this!’ and you sniff contemptuously at it. You have brought the blind, the lame and the sick as offerings. Should I accept this from your hand?” says the Lord of hosts.
‘Kun dadhabbii dha!’ jettaniis tuffiidhaan itti cirriiqfattu” jedha Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu. “Isin yoo horii hatame, kan naafate yookaan kan dhukkuba qabu fiddanii aarsaa gootanii dhiʼeessitan, ani isin harkaa fudhachuutu narra jiraa?” jedha Waaqayyo.
14 “Cursed be the cheat, who has in his flock a valuable male, but vows and sacrifices to the Lord a blemished animal! For I am a great king,” says the Lord of hosts, “and my name is feared among the nations.”
“Namni bushaayee isaa keessaa korbeessa jaallatamaa qabu kan korbeessa sana aarsaa dhiʼeessuuf wareega kennee garuu sobee horii hirʼina qabu Gooftaadhaaf dhiʼeessu abaaramaa haa taʼu. Ani mootii guddaadhaatii, maqaan koo saboota gidduutti sodaatamuu qaba” jedha Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu.
