John 5
1 Sometime after this there was a Jewish Festival; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
ตต: ปรํ ยิหูทียานามฺ อุตฺสว อุปสฺถิเต ยีศุ รฺยิรูศาลมํ คตวานฺฯ
2 There is in Jerusalem, near the sheep-gate, a bath with five colonnades around it. It is called in Hebrew ‘Bethesda.’
ตสฺมินฺนคเร เมษนามฺโน ทฺวารสฺย สมีเป อิพฺรียภาษยา ไพเถสฺทา นามฺนา ปิษฺกริณี ปญฺจฆฏฺฏยุกฺตาสีตฺฯ
3 In these colonnades a large number of sick people were lying – blind, lame, and crippled.
ตสฺยาเสฺตษุ ฆฏฺเฏษุ กิลาลกมฺปนมฺ อเปกฺษฺย อนฺธขญฺจศุษฺกางฺคาทโย พหโว โรคิณ: ปตนฺตสฺติษฺฐนฺติ สฺมฯ
ยโต วิเศษกาเล ตสฺย สรโส วาริ สฺวรฺคียทูต เอตฺยากมฺปยตฺ ตตฺกีลาลกมฺปนาตฺ ปรํ ย: กศฺจิทฺ โรคี ปฺรถมํ ปานียมวาโรหตฺ ส เอว ตตฺกฺษณาทฺ โรคมุกฺโต'ภวตฺฯ
5 One man who was there had been crippled for thirty-eight years.
ตทาษฺฏาตฺรึศทฺวรฺษาณิ ยาวทฺ โรคคฺรสฺต เอกชนสฺตสฺมินฺ สฺถาเน สฺถิตวานฺฯ
6 Jesus saw the man lying there, and, finding that he had been in this state a long time, said to him, “Do you wish to be cured?”
ยีศุสฺตํ ศยิตํ ทฺฤษฺฏฺวา พหุกาลิกโรคีติ ชฺญาตฺวา วฺยาหฺฤตวานฺ ตฺวํ กึ สฺวโสฺถ พุภูษสิ?
7 “I have no one, Sir,” the sick man answered, “to put me into the bath when there is a troubling of the water, and, while I am getting to it, someone else steps down before me.”
ตโต โรคี กถิตวานฺ เห มเหจฺฉ ยทา กีลาลํ กมฺปเต ตทา มำ ปุษฺกริณีมฺ อวโรหยิตุํ มม โกปิ นาสฺติ, ตสฺมานฺ มม คมนกาเล กศฺจิทโนฺย'โคฺร คตฺวา อวโรหติฯ
8 “Stand up,” said Jesus, “take up your mat, and walk.”
ตทา ยีศุรกถยทฺ อุตฺติษฺฐ, ตว ศยฺยามุตฺโตลฺย คฺฤหีตฺวา ยาหิฯ
9 The man was cured immediately, and took up his mat and began walking.
ส ตตฺกฺษณาตฺ สฺวโสฺถ ภูตฺวา ศยฺยามุตฺโตลฺยาทาย คตวานฺ กินฺตุ ตทฺทินํ วิศฺรามวาร: ฯ
10 Now it was the Sabbath. So the religious authorities said to the man who had been cured, “This is the Sabbath; you must not carry your mat.”
ตสฺมาทฺ ยิหูทียา: สฺวสฺถํ นรํ วฺยาหรนฺ อทฺย วิศฺรามวาเร ศยนียมาทาย น ยาตวฺยมฺฯ
11 “The man who cured me,” he answered, “said to me ‘Take up your mat and walk.’”
ตต: ส ปฺรตฺยโวจทฺ โย มำ สฺวสฺถมฺ อการฺษีตฺ ศยนียมฺ อุตฺโตลฺยาทาย ยาตุํ มำ ส เอวาทิศตฺฯ
12 “Who was it,” they asked, “that said to you ‘Take up your mat and walk’?”
ตทา เต'ปฺฤจฺฉนฺ ศยนียมฺ อุตฺโตลฺยาทาย ยาตุํ ย อาชฺญาปยตฺ ส ก: ?
13 But the man who had been restored did not know who it was; for Jesus had moved away, because there was a crowd there.
กินฺตุ ส ก อิติ สฺวสฺถีภูโต นาชานาทฺ ยตสฺตสฺมินฺ สฺถาเน ชนตาสตฺตฺวาทฺ ยีศุ: สฺถานานฺตรมฺ อาคมตฺฯ
14 Afterward Jesus found the man in the Temple Courts, and said to him, “You are cured now; do not sin again, or something worse may happen to you.”
ตต: ปรํ เยศุ รฺมนฺทิเร ตํ นรํ สากฺษาตฺปฺราปฺยากถยตฺ ปเศฺยทานีมฺ อนามโย ชาโตสิ ยถาธิกา ทุรฺทศา น ฆฏเต ตทฺเธโต: ปาปํ กรฺมฺม ปุนรฺมาการฺษี: ฯ
15 The man went away, and told the authorities that it was Jesus who had cured him.
ตต: ส คตฺวา ยิหูทียานฺ อวททฺ ยีศุ รฺมามฺ อโรคิณมฺ อการฺษีตฺฯ
16 And that was why they began to persecute Jesus – because he did things of this kind on the Sabbath.
ตโต ยีศุ รฺวิศฺรามวาเร กรฺมฺเมทฺฤศํ กฺฤตวานฺ อิติ เหโต รฺยิหูทียาสฺตํ ตาฑยิตฺวา หนฺตุมฺ อเจษฺฏนฺตฯ
17 But Jesus replied, “My Father works to this very hour, and I work also.”
ยีศุสฺตานาขฺยตฺ มม ปิตา ยตฺ การฺยฺยํ กโรติ ตทนุรูปมฺ อหมปิ กโรติฯ
18 This made the authorities all the more eager to kill him, because not only was he doing away with the Sabbath, but he actually called God his own Father – putting himself on an equality with God.
ตโต ยิหูทียาสฺตํ หนฺตุํ ปุนรยตนฺต ยโต วิศฺรามวารํ นามนฺยต ตเทว เกวลํ น อธิกนฺตุ อีศฺวรํ สฺวปิตรํ โปฺรจฺย สฺวมปีศฺวรตุลฺยํ กฺฤตวานฺฯ
19 So Jesus made this further reply, “In truth I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself; he does only what he sees the Father doing; whatever the Father does, the Son does also.
ปศฺจาทฺ ยีศุรวททฺ ยุษฺมานหํ ยถารฺถตรํ วทามิ ปุตฺร: ปิตรํ ยทฺยตฺ กรฺมฺม กุรฺวฺวนฺตํ ปศฺยติ ตทติริกฺตํ เสฺวจฺฉาต: กิมปิ กรฺมฺม กรฺตฺตุํ น ศกฺโนติฯ ปิตา ยตฺ กโรติ ปุโตฺรปิ ตเทว กโรติฯ
20 For the Father loves his Son, and shows him everything that he is doing; and he will show him still greater things – so that you will be filled with wonder.
ปิตา ปุเตฺร เสฺนหํ กโรติ ตสฺมาตฺ สฺวยํ ยทฺยตฺ กรฺมฺม กโรติ ตตฺสรฺวฺวํ ปุตฺรํ ทรฺศยติ; ยถา จ ยุษฺมากํ อาศฺจรฺยฺยชฺญานํ ชนิษฺยเต ตทรฺถมฺ อิโตปิ มหากรฺมฺม ตํ ทรฺศยิษฺยติฯ
21 For, just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he pleases.
วสฺตุตสฺตุ ปิตา ยถา ปฺรมิตานฺ อุตฺถาปฺย สชิวานฺ กโรติ ตทฺวตฺ ปุโตฺรปิ ยํ ยํ อิจฺฉติ ตํ ตํ สชีวํ กโรติฯ
22 The Father himself does not judge any one, but has entrusted the work of judging entirely to his Son,
สรฺเวฺว ปิตรํ ยถา สตฺกุรฺวฺวนฺติ ตถา ปุตฺรมปิ สตฺการยิตุํ ปิตา สฺวยํ กสฺยาปิ วิจารมกฺฤตฺวา สรฺวฺววิจาราณำ ภารํ ปุเตฺร สมรฺปิตวานฺฯ
23 so that everyone may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. The person who does not honour the Son fails to honour the Father who sent him.
ย: ปุตฺรํ สตฺ กโรติ ส ตสฺย เปฺรรกมปิ สตฺ กโรติฯ
24 In truth I tell you that the person who listens to my message and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and does not come under condemnation, but has already passed out of death into life. (aiōnios g166)
ยุษฺมานาหํ ยถารฺถตรํ วทามิ โย ชโน มม วากฺยํ ศฺรุตฺวา มตฺเปฺรรเก วิศฺวสิติ โสนนฺตายุ: ปฺราปฺโนติ กทาปิ ทณฺฑพาชนํ น ภวติ นิธนาทุตฺถาย ปรมายุ: ปฺราปฺโนติฯ (aiōnios g166)
25 In truth I tell you that a time is coming, indeed it is already here, when the dead will listen to the voice of the Son of God, and when those who listen will live.
อหํ ยุษฺมานติยถารฺถํ วทามิ ยทา มฺฤตา อีศฺวรปุตฺรสฺย นินาทํ โศฺรษฺยนฺติ เย จ โศฺรษฺยนฺติ เต สชีวา ภวิษฺยนฺติ สมย เอตาทฺฤศ อายาติ วรมฺ อิทานีมปฺยุปติษฺฐติฯ
26 For, just as the Father has inherent life within him, so also he has granted to the Son to have inherent life within him;
ปิตา ยถา สฺวยญฺชีวี ตถา ปุตฺราย สฺวยญฺชีวิตฺวาธิการํ ทตฺตวานฺฯ
27 and, because he is Son of Man, he has also given him authority to act as judge.
ส มนุษฺยปุตฺร: เอตสฺมาตฺ การณาตฺ ปิตา ทณฺฑกรณาธิการมปิ ตสฺมินฺ สมรฺปิตวานฺฯ
28 Do not wonder at this; for the time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice,
เอตทรฺเถ ยูยมฺ อาศฺจรฺยฺยํ น มนฺยธฺวํ ยโต ยสฺมินฺ สมเย ตสฺย นินาทํ ศฺรุตฺวา ศฺมศานสฺถา: สรฺเวฺว พหิราคมิษฺยนฺติ สมย เอตาทฺฤศ อุปสฺถาสฺยติฯ
29 and will come out – those who have done good rising to life, and those who have lived evil lives rising for condemnation.
ตสฺมาทฺ เย สตฺกรฺมฺมาณิ กฺฤตวนฺตสฺต อุตฺถาย อายุ: ปฺราปฺสฺยนฺติ เย จ กุกรฺมาณิ กฺฤตวนฺตสฺต อุตฺถาย ทณฺฑํ ปฺราปฺสฺยนฺติฯ
30 I can do nothing of myself; I judge as I am taught; and the judgment that I give is just, because my aim is not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.
อหํ สฺวยํ กิมปิ กรฺตฺตุํ น ศกฺโนมิ ยถา ศุโณมิ ตถา วิจารยามิ มม วิจารญฺจ นฺยายฺย: ยโตหํ สฺวียาภีษฺฏํ เนหิตฺวา มตฺเปฺรรยิตุ: ปิตุริษฺฏมฺ อีเหฯ
31 “If I bear testimony to myself, my testimony is not trustworthy;
ยทิ สฺวสฺมินฺ สฺวยํ สากฺษฺยํ ททามิ ตรฺหิ ตตฺสากฺษฺยมฺ อาคฺราหฺยํ ภวติ;
32 it is another who bears testimony to me, and I know that the testimony which he bears to me is trustworthy.
กินฺตุ มทรฺเถ'ปโร ชน: สากฺษฺยํ ททาติ มทรฺเถ ตสฺย ยตฺ สากฺษฺยํ ตตฺ สตฺยมฺ เอตทปฺยหํ ชานามิฯ
33 You have yourselves sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.
ยุษฺมาภิ โรฺยหนํ ปฺรติ โลเกษุ เปฺรริเตษุ ส สตฺยกถายำ สากฺษฺยมททาตฺฯ
34 But the testimony which I receive is not from people; I am saying this for your salvation.
มานุษาทหํ สากฺษฺยํ โนเปกฺเษ ตถาปิ ยูยํ ยถา ปริตฺรยเธฺว ตทรฺถมฺ อิทํ วากฺยํ วทามิฯ
35 He was the Lamp that was burning and shining, and you were ready to rejoice, for a time, in his light.
โยหนฺ เททีปฺยมาโน ทีป อิว เตชสฺวี สฺถิตวานฺ ยูยมฺ อลฺปกาลํ ตสฺย ทีปฺตฺยานนฺทิตุํ สมมนฺยธฺวํฯ
36 But the testimony which I have is of greater weight than John’s; for the work that the Father has given me to carry out – the work that I am doing – is in itself proof that the Father has sent me as his messenger.
กินฺตุ ตตฺปฺรมาณาทปิ มม คุรุตรํ ปฺรมาณํ วิทฺยเต ปิตา มำ เปฺรษฺย ยทฺยตฺ กรฺมฺม สมาปยิตุํ ศกฺตฺติมททาตฺ มยา กฺฤตํ ตตฺตตฺ กรฺมฺม มทรฺเถ ปฺรมาณํ ททาติฯ
37 The Father who has sent me has himself borne testimony to me. You have neither listened to his voice, not seen his form;
ย: ปิตา มำ เปฺรริตวานฺ โมปิ มทรฺเถ ปฺรมาณํ ททาติฯ ตสฺย วากฺยํ ยุษฺมาภิ: กทาปิ น ศฺรุตํ ตสฺย รูปญฺจ น ทฺฤษฺฏํ
38 and you have not taken his message home to your hearts, because you do not believe him whom he sent as his messenger.
ตสฺย วากฺยญฺจ ยุษฺมากมฺ อนฺต: กทาปิ สฺถานํ นาปฺโนติ ยต: ส ยํ เปฺรษิตวานฺ ยูยํ ตสฺมินฺ น วิศฺวสิถฯ
39 You search the scriptures, because you think that you find in them immortal life; and, though it is those scriptures that bear testimony to me, (aiōnios g166)
ธรฺมฺมปุสฺตกานิ ยูยมฺ อาโลจยธฺวํ ไต รฺวาไกฺยรนนฺตายุ: ปฺราปฺสฺยาม อิติ ยูยํ พุธฺยเธฺว ตทฺธรฺมฺมปุสฺตกานิ มทรฺเถ ปฺรมาณํ ททติฯ (aiōnios g166)
40 you refuse to come to me to have life.
ตถาปิ ยูยํ ปรมายุ: ปฺราปฺตเย มม สํนิธิมฺ น ชิคมิษถฯ
41 “I do not receive honor from people,
อหํ มานุเษภฺย: สตฺการํ น คฺฤหฺลามิฯ
42 but I know this of you, that you have not the love of God in your hearts.
อหํ ยุษฺมานฺ ชานามิ; ยุษฺมากมนฺตร อีศฺวรเปฺรม นาสฺติฯ
43 I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not receive me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.
อหํ นิชปิตุ รฺนามฺนาคโตสฺมิ ตถาปิ มำ น คฺฤหฺลีถ กินฺตุ กศฺจิทฺ ยทิ สฺวนามฺนา สมาคมิษฺยติ ตรฺหิ ตํ คฺรหีษฺยถฯ
44 How can you believe in me, when you receive honor from one another and do not desire the honor which comes from the only God?
ยูยมฺ อีศฺวราตฺ สตฺการํ น จิษฺฏตฺวา เกวลํ ปรสฺปรํ สตฺการมฺ เจทฺ อาทธฺเวฺว ตรฺหิ กถํ วิศฺวสิตุํ ศกฺนุถ?
45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; your accuser is Moses, on whom you have been resting your hopes.
ปุตุ: สมีเป'หํ ยุษฺมานฺ อปวทิษฺยามีติ มา จินฺตยต ยสฺมินฺ, ยสฺมินฺ ยุษฺมากํ วิศฺวส: เสอว มูสา ยุษฺมานฺ อปวทติฯ
46 For, had you believed Moses, you would have believed me, for it was of me that Moses wrote;
ยทิ ยูยํ ตสฺมินฺ วฺยศฺวสิษฺยต ตรฺหิ มยฺยปิ วฺยศฺวสิษฺยต, ยตฺ ส มยิ ลิขิตวานฺฯ
47 but, if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my teaching?”
ตโต ยทิ เตน ลิขิตวานิ น ปฺรติถ ตรฺหิ มม วากฺยานิ กถํ ปฺรเตฺยษฺยถ?
