John 13
1 Before the Passover Festival began, Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave the world and go to the Father. He had loved those who were his own in the world, and he loved them to the last.
੧ਇਹ ਸਮਾਂ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਸਦਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਣ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਕੋਲ ਜਾਣ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਨੇੜੇ ਸੀ। ਜਿਹੜੇ ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਸਨ, ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਤ ਤੱਕ ਪਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
2 The devil had already put the thought of betraying Jesus into the mind of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon;
੨ਯਿਸੂ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਰਾਤ ਦਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਮਊਨ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯਹੂਦਾ ਇਸਕਰਿਯੋਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨਾਲ ਧੋਖਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਦਿਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਸੀ।
3 and at supper, Jesus – although knowing that the Father had put everything into his hands, and that he had come from God, and was to return to God –
੩ਯਿਸੂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਵਾਪਸ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
4 rose from his place, and, taking off his upper garments, tied a towel around his waist.
੪ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਯਿਸੂ ਉੱਠ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਚੋਗਾ ਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਤੌਲੀਆ ਲਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੱਕ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਲਪੇਟ ਲਿਆ।
5 He then poured some water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel which was tied around him.
੫ਫ਼ਿਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਣੀ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਧੋਣੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਲੱਕ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਤੌਲੀਆ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕੀਤੇ।
6 When he came to Simon Peter, Peter said, “You, Master! Are you going to wash my feet?”
੬ਜਦੋਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਸ਼ਮਊਨ ਪਤਰਸ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ ਪਤਰਸ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੈਰ ਧੋਵੋਂਗੇ?”
7 “You do not understand now what I am doing,” replied Jesus, “but you will learn by and by.”
੭ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ “ਤੂੰ ਹੁਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝੇਂਗਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਸਗੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮਝੇਂਗਾ।”
8 “You will never wash my feet!” exclaimed Peter. “Unless I wash you,” answered Jesus, “you have nothing in common with me.” (aiōn g165)
੮ਪਤਰਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਤੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਧੋਵੇਂਗਾ।” ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਰ ਨਾ ਧੋਵਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਂਗੀ।” (aiōn g165)
9 “Then, Master, not my feet only,” exclaimed Simon Peter, “but also my hands and my head.”
੯ਸ਼ਮਊਨ ਪਤਰਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ, ਫ਼ੇਰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੈਰ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਗੋਂ ਹੱਥ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਰ ਵੀ ਧੋ ਦੇਵੋ।”
10 “He who has bathed,” replied Jesus, “has no need to wash, unless it be his feet, but is altogether clean; and you,” he said to the disciples, “are clean, yet not all of you.”
੧੦ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਧੋਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਾਫ਼ ਹੋ, ਪਰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਫ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।”
11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said ‘You are not all clean.’
੧੧ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਕੌਣ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ: “ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਫ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।”
12 When he had washed their feet, and had put on his upper garments and taken his place, he spoke to them again. “Do you understand what I have been doing to you?” he asked.
੧੨ਜਦੋਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਧੋ ਹਟਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਚੋਗਾ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਮੇਜ਼ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਣ ਬੈਠਾ ਅਤੇ ਪੁੱਛਣ ਲੱਗਾ, “ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ?”
13 “You yourselves call me ‘the teacher’ and ‘the Master’, and you are right, for I am both.
੧੩ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ “ਗੁਰੂ” ਅਤੇ “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ” ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਠੀਕ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਉਹੀ ਹਾਂ।
14 If I, then – ‘the Master’ and ‘the teacher’ – have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet;
੧੪ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੀ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਵੀ। ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੈਰ ਇੱਕ ਸੇਵਕ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਧੋਤੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਧੋਵੋ।
15 for I have given you an example, so that you may do just as I have done to you.
੧੫ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਨਮੂਨਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਉਵੇਂ ਕਰ ਸਕੋ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
16 In truth I tell you, a servant is not greater than their master, neither is a messenger greater than the one who sends them.
੧੬ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ-ਸੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਦਾਸ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਪਣੇ ਭੇਜਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
17 Now that you know these things, happy are you if you do them.
੧੭ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹੋ, ਤਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਹੋਵੋਂਗੇ।
18 I am not speaking about all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but this is in fulfillment of the words of scripture – ‘He that is eating my bread has lifted his heel against me.’
੧੮“ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਦਾ। ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਜੋ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ: ਉਹ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਧੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਆਪਣੀ ਲੱਤ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੈ।
19 For the future I will tell you of things before they take place, so that, when they take place, you may believe that I am what I am.
੧੯ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਦੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ। ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਓਹੀ ਹਾਂ।
20 In truth I tell you, the one who receives anyone that I send receives me; and the person who receives me receives him who sent me.”
੨੦ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ-ਸੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਭੇਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰਦਾ, ਸੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਭੇਜਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।”
21 After saying this, Jesus was much troubled, and said solemnly, “In truth I tell you that it is one of you who will betray me.”
੨੧ਯਿਸੂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਆਖਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਬੜਾ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਫ਼ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ-ਸੱਚ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਧੋਖਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।”
22 The disciples looked at one another, wondering whom he meant.
੨੨ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਭਰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਵੱਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਨਾ ਆਇਆ ਕਿ ਯਿਸੂ ਕਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
23 Next to Jesus, in the place on his right hand, was one of his disciples, whom he loved.
੨੩ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਚੇਲਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਿਸੂ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਢਾਸਣਾ ਲਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।
24 So Simon Peter made signs to that disciple, and whispered, “Tell me who it is that he means.”
੨੪ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਮਊਨ ਪਤਰਸ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਪੁੱਛਣ ਲਈ ਇਸ਼ਾਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
25 Being in this position, that disciple leant back on Jesus’ shoulder, and asked him, “Who is it, Master?”
੨੫ਉਹ ਚੇਲਾ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਛੱਣ ਲੱਗਾ, “ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਕੌਣ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣਾਂ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਫ਼ੜਵਾਏਗਾ।”
26 “It is the one,” answered Jesus, “to whom I will give a piece of bread after dipping it in the dish.” And, when Jesus had dipped the bread, he took it and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot;
੨੬ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਜਿਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਰੋਟੀ ਕਟੋਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਬੋਵਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ ਉਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣਾਂ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਫ਼ੜਵਾਏਗਾ।” ਸੋ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਰੋਟੀ ਲਈ ਕਟੋਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਬੋਈ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਮਊਨ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯਹੂਦਾ ਇਸਕਰਿਯੋਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
27 and it was then, after he had received it, that Satan took possession of him. So Jesus said to him, “Do at once what you are going to do.”
੨੭ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਯਹੂਦਾ ਨੇ ਰੋਟੀ ਲਈ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੜ ਗਿਆ। ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਯਹੂਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਨਾ ਛੇਤੀ ਕਰ।”
28 But no one at the table understood why he said this to Judas.
੨੮ਮੇਜ਼ ਤੇ ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਿਆ ਕਿ ਯਿਸੂ ਕੀ ਆਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਯਹੂਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਆਖੀ।
29 Some thought that, as Judas kept the purse, Jesus meant that he was to buy some things needed for the Festival, or to give something to the poor.
੨੯ਯਹੂਦਾ ਕੋਲ ਧਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਥੈਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਨੇ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਕਿ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਖਰੀਦਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਲਈ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
30 After taking the piece of bread, Judas went out immediately; and it was night.
੩੦ਤਾਂ ਯਹੂਦਾ ਰੋਟੀ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਝੱਟ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹ ਰਾਤ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਸੀ।
31 When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man has been exalted, and God has been exalted through him;
੩੧ਜਦੋਂ ਯਹੂਦਾ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਹੁਣ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
32 and God will exalt him with himself – yes, he will exalt him forthwith.
੩੨ਜੇਕਰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਉਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਜਲਦੀ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।”
33 My children, I am to be with you but a little while longer. You will look for me; and what I said to the people – ‘You cannot come where I am going’ – I now say to you.
੩੩ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮੇਰੇ ਬੱਚਿਓ, ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਥੋੜੀ ਦੇਰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਰਹਾਂਗਾ। ਫੇਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਭੋਗੇ, ਪਰ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੇ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਮੈਂ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ।
34 I give you a new commandment – love one another; love one another as I have loved you.
੩੪ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਨਵਾਂ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਉਹ ਇਹ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰੋ। ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰੋ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
35 It is by this that everyone will recognize you as my disciples – by your loving one another.”
੩੫ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਜਾਨਣਗੇ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਹੋ।”
36 “Where are you going, Master?” asked Peter. “I am going where you cannot now follow me,” answered Jesus, “but you will follow me later.”
੩੬ਸ਼ਮਊਨ ਪਤਰਸ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ?” ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਜਿੱਥੇ ਮੈਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਗਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ ਪਰ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੂੰ ਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।”
37 “Why cannot I follow you now, Master?” asked Peter. “I will lay down my life for you.”
੩੭ਪਤਰਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਗਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ? ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਜਾਨ ਦੇਣ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਰ ਹਾਂ।”
38 “Will you lay down your life for me?” replied Jesus. “In truth I tell you, the cock will not crow until you have disowned me three times.
੩੮ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਨ ਦੇਵੇਂਗਾ? ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਦੇਰ ਤੱਕ ਤੂੰ ਤਿੰਨ ਵਾਰੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਇੰਨਕਾਰ ਨਾ ਕਰੇਂ ਕੁੱਕੜ ਬਾਂਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।”
