1 Thessalonians 4
1 Further, friends, we beg and urge you in the name of our Lord Jesus to carry out more fully than ever – as indeed you are already doing – all that you have heard from us as to what your daily life must be, if it is to please God.
Im übrigen, meine Brüder, bitten und ermahnen wir euch im Herrn Jesus: Wie ihr es von uns überliefert bekommen habt, wie ihr leben und Gott wohlgefallen sollt, lebt auch wirklich so. Dann werdet ihr immer vollkommener werden.
2 For you have not forgotten the directions that we gave you on the authority of our Lord Jesus.
Ihr wißt ja, welche Vorschriften wir euch in der Kraft des Herrn Jesus gegeben haben.
3 For this is God’s purpose – that you should be pure; abstaining from all immorality;
Denn das ist der Wille Gottes: eure Heiligung. Ihr sollt der Unzucht euch enthalten.
4 each of you learning to gain control over your own body, in a way that is holy and honorable,
Ein jeglicher aus euch soll es verstehen, in heiliger Zucht und Ehrbarkeit sein Weib sich zu gewinnen
5 and not for the mere gratification of your passions, like the Gentiles who know nothing of God;
und nicht in leidenschaftlicher Begierde wie die Heiden, die Gott nicht kennen.
6 none of you overreaching or taking advantage of their fellow follower of the Lord in such matters. The Lord takes vengeance on all who do such things, as we have already warned you and solemnly declared.
Es soll sich keiner einen Übergriff erlauben und seinen Bruder geschäftlich hintergehen; denn alle diese straft der Herr, wie wir ja früher schon es euch gesagt und versichert haben.
7 For God does not call us to an impure life, but demands holiness.
Gott hat uns nicht zur Unlauterkeit berufen, vielmehr zur Heiligung.
8 Therefore the person who disregards this warning disregards, not people, but God who gives you his Holy Spirit.
Wer demnach dies mißachtet, mißachtet nicht Menschen, sondern Gott, der euch seinen Heiligen Geist gegeben hat.
9 As to love for each other there is no need to write to you; for you have yourselves been taught by God to love one another;
Von brüderlicher Liebe braucht man euch nicht zu schreiben: Ihr habt von Gott selbst es gelernt, einander zu lieben;
10 and indeed you do act in this spirit towards all his people throughout Macedonia. Yet, friends, we beg you to do even more.
ihr tut dies ja in ganz Mazedonien an allen Brüdern. Wir ermahnen euch aber, liebe Brüder, darin immer noch mehr zuzunehmen.
11 Make it your ambition to live quietly, and to attend to your own business, and to work with your hands, as we directed you;
Setzt eure Ehre darein, ein stilles Leben zu führen, eure Angelegenheiten zu besorgen und eurer Hände Arbeit zu verrichten, wie wir euch angewiesen haben.
12 so that your conduct may win respect from those outside the church, and that you may not want for anything.
So wandelt ihr in Ehren vor den Außenstehenden und braucht niemand in Anspruch zu nehmen.
13 We don’t want you to be ignorant, friends, about those who have passed to their rest. We don’t want you to grieve like other people who have no hope.
Meine Brüder, wir wollen euch über die Entschlafenen nicht im Ungewissen lassen, damit ihr nicht trauert wie die anderen, die keine Hoffnung haben.
14 For, as we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also we believe that God will bring, with Jesus, those who through him have passed to their rest.
Wenn wir glauben, daß Jesus gestorben und auferstanden ist, so wird Gott ebenso auch die Entschlafenen durch Jesus zugleich mit ihm herbeiführen.
15 This we tell you on the authority of the Lord – that those of us who are still living at the coming of the Lord will not anticipate those who have passed to their rest.
Das sagen wir euch nach einem Worte des Herrn: Wir, die wir noch am Leben sind, die wir noch für die Ankunft des Herrn übrig sind, wir werden vor den Entschlafenen nichts voraus haben.
16 For, with a loud summons, with the shout of an archangel, and with the trumpet-call of God, the Lord himself will come down from heaven.
Der Herr wird ja, wenn der Befehl ergeht, beim Schalle der Stimme des Erzengels und der Posaune Gottes vom Himmel niedersteigen. Zuerst erstehen die in Christus Verstorbenen.
17 Then those who died in union with Christ will rise first; and afterward we who are still living will be caught up in the clouds, with them, to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will be for ever with the Lord.
Dann werden wir, die wir noch am Leben und noch übrig sind, vereint mit jenen auf den Wolken in die Luft entrückt werden, dem Herrn entgegen, und werden so immerdar in Gemeinschaft mit dem Herrn sein.
18 Therefore, comfort one another with what I have told you.
Mit diesen Worten also tröstet einander.
