1 Peter 4
1 Since, then, Christ suffered in body, arm yourselves with the same resolve as he; for he who has suffered in body has ceased to sin,
Da nun Christus zu unserem Heil dem Fleisch nach gelitten hat, so wappnet auch ihr euch mit derselben Gesinnung! — Denn wer dem Fleisch nach gelitten hat, der hat mit der Sünde nichts mehr zu schaffen —.
2 and so will live the rest of his earthly life guided, not by human passions, but by the will of God.
Ihr sollt ja die noch übrige Zeit eures irdischen Lebens nicht mehr nach der Menschen Lüsten, sondern nach Gottes Willen zubringen.
3 Surely in the past you have spent time enough living as the Gentiles delight to live. For your path has lain among scenes of debauchery, licentiousness, drunkenness, revelry, hard-drinking, and profane idolatry.
Ihr habt doch in den vergangenen Tagen wahrlich Zeit genug damit vergeudet, den heidnischen Leidenschaften zu frönen durch einen Wandel in Ausschweifungen, Lüsten, Trunksucht, Schmausereien, Zechgelagen und schändlichem Götzendienst.
4 And, because you do not run to the same extremes of profligacy as others, they are astonished, and malign you.
Das befremdet die Leute nun, daß ihr jetzt nicht mit ihnen in demselben Strom des Lasters schwimmt, und deshalb lästern sie euch.
5 But they will have to answer for their conduct to him who is ready to judge both the living and the dead.
Dafür aber sollen sie Rechenschaft geben dem, der bereitsteht, Lebendige und Tote zu richten.
6 For that was why the good news was told to the dead also – that, after they have been judged in the body, as people are judged, they might live in the spirit, as God lives.
Darum ist ja auch Toten die Heilsbotschaft verkündigt worden, daß sie, die nach Menschenlos am Fleisch gerichtet waren, im Geist nach Gottes Erbarmen lebten.
7 But the end of all things is near. Therefore exercise self-restraint and be calm, so that you may be able to pray.
Das Ende aller Dinge steht vor der Tür. Darum seid mäßig und nüchtern, damit ihr beten könnt!
8 Above all things, let your love for one another be earnest, for ‘Love throws a veil over countless sins.’
Vor allem habt einander herzlich lieb, denn die Liebe deckt eine Menge Sünden zu!
9 Never grudge hospitality to one another.
Seid gastfrei gegeneinander ohne Murren!
10 Whatever the gift that each has received, use it in the service of others, as good stewards of the varied bounty of God.
Dient einander, ein jeder mit der Gabe, die er empfangen hat! So ziemt es sich für gute Haushalter der mannigfachen Gnade, die Gott schenkt.
11 When anyone speaks, they should speak as one who is delivering the oracles of God. When anyone is endeavoring to serve others, they should do so in reliance on the strength which God supplies; so that in everything God may be honored through Jesus Christ – to whom be ascribed all honor and might for ever and ever. Redet jemand, so seien seine Worte wie Aussprüche Gottes! Dient jemand, der richte sein Werk aus in der Kraft, die Gott verleiht! So soll in allen Gott verherrlicht werden durch Jesus Christus. Ihm gebührt die Herrlichkeit und Macht in alle Ewigkeit. Amen. (aiōn g165)
12 Dear friends, do not be astonished at the trial of fire that you are passing through, to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
Geliebte, seid nicht erstaunt über die Feuerglut (der Leiden), die jetzt zu eurer Läuterung unter euch brennt. Damit widerfährt euch nichts Absonderliches.
13 No, the more you share the sufferings of the Christ, the more may you rejoice, that, when the time comes for the manifestation of his glory, you may rejoice and exult.
Im Gegenteil; je mehr ihr an den Leiden Christi teilnehmt, desto größer sei eure Freude! Dann könnt ihr auch bei der Offenbarung seiner Herrlichkeit jauchzen und jubeln.
14 If you are insulted for bearing the name of Christ, count yourselves blessed; because the divine glory and the Spirit of God are resting on you.
Schmäht man euch, weil ihr Christi Namen tragt, so seid ihr selig zu preisen. Denn der Geist, der euch die Herrlichkeit verbürgt und Kraft verleiht — Gottes Geist —, der ruht auf euch.
15 I need hardly say that no one among you must suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a criminal, or for interfering in matters which do not concern Christians.
Niemand unter euch darf leiden, weil er etwa mordet, stiehlt oder sich sonst vergeht, auch nicht, weil er sich unbefugt in fremde Angelegenheiten mischt.
16 But, if someone suffers as a Christian, they should not be ashamed of it; they should bring honor to God even though they bear that name.
Muß aber jemand leiden, weil er ein Christ ist, so braucht er sich nicht zu schämen; er preise vielmehr Gott (voll Dank) dafür, daß er seinen Namen trägt.
17 For the time has come for judgment to begin with the house of God; and, if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who reject God’s good news?
Denn die Zeit ist da, da das Gericht seinen Anfang nimmt bei dem Haus Gottes. Fängt's aber an bei uns, was für ein Ende müssen dann die nehmen, die Gottes Heilsbotschaft nicht glauben wollen?
18 If ‘a good person is saved only with difficulty, what will become of the godless and the sinful?’
Und wird der Gerechte nur mit genauer Not errettet, wo wird da der Gottlose und Sünder bleiben?
19 Therefore, I say, let those who suffer, because God wills it so, commit their lives into the hands of a faithful Creator, and persevere in doing right.
So mögen denn alle, die nach Gottes Willen leiden, dem Schutz des treuen Schöpfers ihre Seelen anbefehlen, indem sie Gutes tun.
