1 John 4
1 Dear friends, do not trust every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Geliebte, schenkt nicht jedem Geist Glauben! Prüft vielmehr die Geister, ob sie aus Gott sind! Denn viele Lügenpropheten sind ausgezogen in die Welt.
2 This is the way to recognize the Spirit of God: those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as come in the flesh have God’s Spirit,
Daran erkennt Gottes Geist: Jeder Geist, der Jesus Christus als den im Fleisch Erschienenen bekennt, der ist aus Gott.
3 while a spirit that doesn’t acknowledge Jesus isn’t from God. Instead it is the spirit of the antichrist; you have heard that it was coming, and it is now already in the world!
Doch jeder Geist, der Jesus nicht bekennt, ist nicht aus Gott: das ist der Geist des Widerchrists. Ihr habt gehört, daß er kommt; und er ist schon jetzt in der Welt.
4 You, my children, come from God, and you have successfully resisted such people as these, because he who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
Ihr seid aus Gott, liebe Kinder, und habt sie überwunden. Denn der in euch wirkt, ist stärker, als der in der Welt sein Wesen treibt.
5 Those people belong to the world and therefore they speak as the world speaks, and the world listens to them.
Sie gehören der Welt an. Darum reden sie nach Art der Welt, und die Welt hört auf sie.
6 We come from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; the person who does not come from God does not listen to us. This is how we distinguish the spirit of truth and the spirit of deception.
Wir sind von Gott gesandt. Wer Gott erkennt, der hört auf uns. Wer nicht aus Gott ist, der hört nicht auf uns. Hieran erkennen wir den Geist der Wahrheit und den Geist des Irrtums.
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, because love comes from God and everyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.
Geliebte, laßt uns einander lieben! Denn die Liebe stammt von Gott, und wer Liebe hat, der ist aus Gott erzeugt und erkennt Gott.
8 Those who do not love know nothing of God, for God is love.
Wer keine Liebe hat, der hat Gott nicht erkannt; denn Gott ist Liebe.
9 This is how God showed his love among us: he sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
Dadurch ist Gottes Liebe bei uns offenbar geworden, daß Gott seinen eingeborenen Sohn gesandt hat in die Welt, damit wir durch ihn das Leben hätten.
10 This is what love is: it is not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Darin zeigt sich die (wahre) Liebe: nicht wir haben Gott geliebt, sondern er hat uns geliebt und seinen Sohn gesandt als Sühne für unsere Sünden.
11 Dear friends, since God loved us in this way, we should love one another.
Geliebte, hat uns Gott so sehr geliebt, dann müssen auch wir einander lieben.
12 No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love reaches perfection within us.
Keiner hat Gott je gesehen. Lieben wir aber einander, so wohnt Gott bleibend in uns, und seine Liebe ist in uns vollkommen.
13 We know that we live in him, and he lives in us, because he has given us a measure of his Spirit.
Daß wir aber bleibend in ihm wohnen und er in uns, erkennen wir daran, daß er uns von seinem Geist gegeben hat.
14 Moreover, we have seen for ourselves and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.
Und wir haben gesehen und bezeugen, daß der Vater den Sohn gesandt hat als Heiland der Welt.
15 Whoever acknowledges that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, God lives in them, and they live in God.
Wer nun bekennt, daß Jesus Gottes Sohn ist, in dem bleibt Gott und er in Gott.
16 And so we have come to know and believe the love which God has for us. God is love; and whoever lives in love lives in God, and God lives in them.
Wir haben erkannt und geglaubt die Liebe, die Gott zu uns hat. Gott ist Liebe; und wer in der Liebe bleibt, der bleibt in Gott, und Gott bleibt auch in ihm.
17 This is the way love has reached its perfection among us, so that we may have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like Christ.
Darin vollendet sich bei uns die Liebe, daß wir freudige Zuversicht haben am Tag des Gerichts; denn so, wie Er ist, so sind auch wir in dieser Welt.
18 There is no fear in love; perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment. So anyone who is afraid has not reached perfection in love.
Furcht ist nicht in der Liebe; die vollkommene Liebe vertreibt die Furcht. Die Furcht denkt ja an Strafe. Wer sich also fürchtet, der ist in der Liebe noch nicht vollkommen.
19 We love, because God first loved us.
Wir lieben, weil Gott uns zuerst geliebt.
20 If someone says ‘I love God,’ and yet hates others, they are a liar. For the person who does not love their brother or sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.
Wer da behauptet: "Ich liebe Gott", und doch seinen Bruder haßt, der ist ein Lügner. Denn wer seinen Bruder nicht liebt, den er leibhaftig sieht, der kann Gott, den er gar nicht sieht, unmöglich lieben.
21 Indeed, we have this command from Christ: Those who love God must also love each other.
Ja, dies Gebot haben wir von ihm: Wer Gott liebt, der muß auch seinen Bruder lieben.
