< 1 Corinthians 11 >
1 Imitate me, as I myself imitate Christ.
Mwĩgerekaniei na niĩ, ta ũrĩa ndĩgerekanagia na Kristũ.
2 I praise you, indeed, because you never forget me, and are keeping my injunctions in mind, exactly as I laid them on you.
Nĩngũmũgaathĩrĩria nĩ ũndũ wa kũndirikana maũndũ-inĩ mothe, na nĩ ũndũ wa gũtũũra mũrũmĩtie morutani macio, o ta ũrĩa ndaamũrutire.
3 But I am anxious that you should understand that the Christ is the head of every man, that man is the head of woman, and that God is the head of the Christ.
Rĩu-rĩ, nĩngwenda mũmenye atĩ mũtwe wa mũndũ mũrũme o wothe nĩ Kristũ, na mũtwe wa mũndũ-wa-nja nĩ mũndũ mũrũme, na mũtwe wa Kristũ nĩ Ngai.
4 Any man who keeps his head covered, when praying or preaching in public, dishonors him who is his head;
Mũndũ mũrũme o wothe ũrĩa ũhooyaga kana akaratha ehumbĩrĩte mũtwe-rĩ, nĩ mũtwe wake aconorithagia.
5 while any woman, who prays or preaches in public bare-headed, dishonors him who is her head; for that is to make herself like one of the shameless women who shave their heads.
Nake mũndũ-wa-nja o wothe ũrĩa ũhooyaga kana akaratha atahumbĩrĩte mũtwe wake-rĩ, nĩ mũtwe wake aconorithagia, tondũ ũguo no ũndũ ũmwe na kwenjwo.
6 Indeed, if a woman does not keep her head covered, she may as well cut her hair short. But, since to cut her hair short, or shave it off, marks her as one of the shameless women, she should keep her head covered.
Angĩkorwo mũndũ-wa-nja ndekũhumbĩra mũtwe wake-rĩ, nĩakĩenje njuĩrĩ yake; na angĩkorwo kũrengarenga njuĩrĩ kana kwenjwo nĩ ũndũ wa gũconora mũndũ-wa-nja-rĩ, nĩakĩĩhumbĩre mũtwe.
7 A man ought not to have his head covered, for he has been from the beginning the likeness of God and the reflection of his glory, but woman is the reflection of man’s glory.
Mũndũ mũrũme ndaagĩrĩirwo nĩkũhumbĩra mũtwe wake, kuona atĩ nĩwe mũhianĩre wa Ngai, na nĩ riiri wa Ngai; no mũndũ-wa-nja nĩwe riiri wa mũndũ mũrũme.
8 For it was not man who was taken from woman, but woman who was taken from man.
Nĩgũkorwo mũndũ mũrũme ndoimire harĩ mũndũ-wa-nja, no nĩ mũndũ-wa-nja woimire harĩ mũndũ mũrũme.
9 Besides, man was not created for the sake of woman, but woman for the sake of man.
Mũndũ mũrũme-rĩ, tiwe wombirwo nĩ ũndũ wa mũndũ-wa-nja, no nĩ mũndũ-wa-nja wombirwo nĩ ũndũ wa mũndũ mũrũme.
10 And, therefore, a woman ought to wear on her head a symbol of her subjection, because of the presence of the angels.
Nĩ ũndũ wa gĩtũmi gĩkĩ-rĩ, mũndũ-wa-nja agĩrĩirwo nĩgũkorwo na rũũri mũtwe rwa kuonania atĩ nĩ wa gwathwo nĩ ũndũ wa araika.
11 Still, when in union with the Lord, woman is not independent of man, or man of woman;
No ningĩ-rĩ, thĩinĩ wa Mwathani, mũndũ-wa-nja ndeiganĩtie mũndũ mũrũme atarĩ ho, nake mũndũ-mũrũme ndeiganĩtie mũndũ-wa-nja atarĩ ho.
12 for just as woman came from man, so man comes by means of woman; and all things come from God.
O ta ũrĩa mũndũ-wa-nja oimire harĩ mũndũ mũrũme-rĩ, no taguo mũndũ-mũrũme aciaragwo nĩ mũndũ-wa-nja. No rĩrĩ, indo ciothe ciumaga kũrĩ Ngai.
13 Judge for yourselves. Is it fitting that a woman should pray to God in public with her head uncovered?
Ta tuai arĩ inyuĩ: Nĩ kwagĩrĩire mũndũ-wa-nja kũhooya Ngai atehumbĩrĩte mũtwe?
14 Does not nature herself teach us that, while for a man to wear his hair long is degrading to him,
Kaĩ maũndũ ma ndũire matamũrutaga atĩ mũndũ-mũrũme gũkorwo arĩ na njuĩrĩ ndaaya nĩ ũndũ wa kũmũconorithia,
15 a woman’s long hair is her glory? Her hair has been given her to serve as a covering.
no mũndũ-wa-nja gũkorwo na njuĩrĩ ndaaya, ũcio nĩ riiri wake? Nĩgũkorwo aheetwo njuĩrĩ ndaaya arĩ kĩndũ gĩa kũmũhumbĩra.
16 If, however, anyone still thinks it right to contest the point – well, we have no such custom, nor have the churches of God.
Angĩkorwo kũrĩ na mũndũ ũrĩ na ngarari na ũhoro ũyũ-rĩ, nĩamenye atĩ ithuĩ tũtirĩ mũtugo ũngĩ, o na makanitha ma Ngai matirĩ mũtugo ũngĩ.
17 In giving directions on the next subject, I cannot praise you; because your meetings do more harm than good.
Ũhoro-inĩ ũrĩa ngũmũtaarĩria rĩu-rĩ, ndirĩ na ũndũ wa kũmũgaathĩra, nĩgũkorwo kũngana kwanyu ti gwa kũmũguna no nĩ gwa kũmũthũkia.
18 To begin with, I am told that when you meet together as a church there are divisions among you. In part I believe this,
Ũndũ wa mbere, njiguaga atĩ rĩrĩa muongana ta kanitha, nĩkũgĩaga na nyamũkano gatagatĩ kanyu, na ũhoro ũcio ndingĩaga gwĩtĩkia ũmwe waguo.
19 indeed, there must be parties among you, so that the people of real worth become known.
Hatarĩ nganja gũtingĩaga kũgĩa na ngarari gatagatĩ-inĩ kanyu cia kuonania arĩa anyu metĩkĩrĩkĩte nĩ Ngai.
20 When you meet together, as I understand, it is not possible to eat the Lord’s Supper;
Rĩrĩa muongana hamwe, ti Irio cia Mwathani mũrĩĩaga,
21 for, as you eat, each of you tries to secure his own supper first, with the result that one has too little to eat, and another has too much to drink!
nĩgũkorwo rĩrĩa mũkũrĩa, o mũndũ athiiaga na mbere kũrĩa ategweterera ũrĩa ũngĩ. Ũmwe aikaraga ahũtiĩ, nake ũrĩa ũngĩ agaikara arĩĩtwo.
22 Have you no houses in which you can eat and drink? Or are you trying to show your contempt for the church of God, and to humiliate the poor? What can I say to you? Should I praise you? In this matter I cannot praise you.
Kaĩ mũtarĩ mĩciĩ mũngĩrĩĩra na mũnyuĩre kuo? Kana nĩ kanitha wa Ngai mũnyararĩte na mũkenda gũconoraga arĩa matarĩ kĩndũ? Ngũkĩmwĩra atĩa? No ndĩkĩmũgaathĩrĩrie nĩ ũndũ wa ũhoro ũcio? Aca, ndingĩmũgaathĩrĩria!
23 For I myself received from the Lord the account which I have in turn given to you – how the Lord Jesus, on the very night of his betrayal, took some bread,
Nĩgũkorwo ũhoro ũrĩa ndaamũkĩrire kuuma kũrĩ Mwathani noguo ndaamũkinyĩirie: Mwathani Jesũ, ũtukũ ũrĩa aakunyanĩirwo, nĩooire mũgate,
24 and, after saying the thanksgiving, broke it and said “This is my own body given on your behalf. Do this in memory of me.”
na aarĩkia gũcookia ngaatho, akĩwenyũranga, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Ũyũ nĩ mwĩrĩ wakwa, ũrĩa ũheanĩtwo nĩ ũndũ wanyu; ĩkagai ũũ nĩguo mũndirikanage.”
25 And in the same way with the cup, after supper, saying “This cup is the new covenant made by my blood. Do this, whenever you drink it, in memory of me.”
Ningĩ o ũndũ ũmwe, thuutha wa kũrĩa irio, akĩoya gĩkombe, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Gĩkombe gĩkĩ nĩ kĩrĩkanĩro kĩrĩa kĩerũ thĩinĩ wa thakame yakwa; ĩkagai ũũ, rĩrĩa rĩothe mũrĩkĩnyuuagĩra, nĩguo mũndirikanage.”
26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death – until he comes.
Nĩgũkorwo rĩrĩa rĩothe mũkũrĩa mũgate ũyũ na mũkanyuĩra gĩkombe gĩkĩ-rĩ, nĩkuumbũra mũkuumbũra gũkua kwa Mwathani o nginya hĩndĩ ĩrĩa agooka.
27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread, or drinks the Lord’s cup, in an irreverent spirit, will have to answer for an offense against the Lord’s body and blood.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio, mũndũ o wothe ũkũrĩa mũgate ũcio kana akanyuĩra gĩkombe kĩu kĩa Mwathani ũrĩa gũtaagĩrĩire-rĩ, nĩ kwĩhia ehĩirie mwĩrĩ na thakame ya Mwathani.
28 Let everyone look into their own heart, and only then eat of the bread and drink from the cup.
Mũndũ nĩambage gwĩtuĩria mbere ya kũrĩa mũgate ũcio na kũnyuĩra gĩkombe kĩu.
29 For the person who eats and drinks brings a judgment on themselves by their eating and drinking, when they do not discern the body.
Nĩgũkorwo mũndũ ũrĩa wothe ũrĩĩaga na akanyua ategũkũũrana mwĩrĩ wa Mwathani, nĩ ituĩro rĩake we mwene etuagĩra.
30 That is why so many among you are weak and ill, and why some are sleeping.
Kĩu nĩkĩo gĩtũmĩte aingĩ anyu moorwo nĩ hinya, na marũare, na amwe anyu nĩmarĩkĩtie gũkua.
31 But, if we judged ourselves rightly, we should not be judged.
No tũngĩĩtuĩra ciira ithuĩ ene, tũtingĩtuĩka a gũciirithio.
32 Yet, in being judged by the Lord, we are undergoing discipline, so that we may not have judgment passed on us with the rest of the world.
Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa tũgũtuĩrwo ciira nĩ Mwathani-rĩ, nĩkũherithio tũherithagio nĩgeetha tũtikae gũtuĩrwo ciira hamwe na thĩ.
33 Therefore, my friends, when you meet together to eat the Supper, wait for one another.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio, ariũ na aarĩ a Ithe witũ, rĩrĩa mũnganĩte mũrĩĩanĩre-rĩ, etanagĩrĩrai.
34 If anyone is hungry, they should eat at home, so that your meetings may not bring a judgment on you. The other details I will settle when I come.
Angĩkorwo mũndũ nĩahũũtiĩ-rĩ, agĩrĩirwo nĩ kũrĩa irio gwake mũciĩ, nĩgeetha rĩrĩa muongana gũtikagĩe ũhoro wa gũtuĩrwo ciira. Nĩngaheana ũhoro wa maũndũ macio mangĩ rĩrĩa ngooka.
