Psalms 76

1 For the leader. With instrumental music. A psalm of Asaph, a song. God has made himself known in Judah, his name is great in Israel.

Dem Musikmeister, mit Saitenspiel; ein Psalm von Asaph, ein Lied. Allbekannt ist Gott in Juda,

2 His tent is in Salem, his dwelling in Zion.

in Salem erstand seine Hütte und seine Wohnstatt in Zion.

3 There he broke the lightning arrows, shield, sword, and weapons of war. (Selah)

Allda hat er zerbrochen des Bogens Blitze, Schild und Schwert und jegliche Kriegswehr. (SELA)

4 Terrible is your splendour on the everlasting mountains.

Ruhmvoll bist du, herrlich von den ewigen Bergen her.

5 Despoiled were the stout of heart; in the sleep into which they had fallen, none of the warriors could lift a hand.

Ausgeplündert wurden die tapferen Streiter, sanken hin in ihren Todesschlaf, und all den Helden versagte der Arm:

6 At your rebuke, God of Jacob, sank chariot and horse to sleep.

vor deinem Drohruf, du Gott Jakobs, sanken in Betäubung so Wagen wie Rosse.

7 Awful are you: who can stand before you, when once you are angry?

Ja du bist furchtbar, und wer kann bestehn vor dir, sobald dein Zorn entbrannt ist?

8 The judgment you gave from heaven frightened the earth into silence,

Vom Himmel her kündigtest du das Gericht an: da erschrak die Erde und wurde still,

9 when God arose to judgment to save the oppressed of the earth. (Selah)

als Gott sich erhob zum Gerichtsvollzug, um allen Bedrückten auf Erden zu helfen. (SELA)

10 The fiercest will praise you, to you will the remnant hold festival.

Denn der Menschen Grimm wird dir zum Lobpreis, wenn zuletzt du dich gürtest mit Zornesflammen.

11 Vow and pay to Lord your God, and let all who are round him bring presents.

Bringt Gelübde dar und erfüllt sie dem HERRN, eurem Gott: alle, die ihn rings umgeben, müssen Geschenke dem Schrecklichen bringen,

12 He lops off the courage of princes, and with terror fills kings of the earth.

ihm, der den Hochmut der Fürsten dämpft und furchtbar ist den Königen der Erde.
