Psalms 52

1 For the leader. A maskil of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul that David had gone to Abimelech’s house. Why glory in mischief, you hero? God’s kindness is all the day.

Au chef des chantres. Maskîl, de David, lorsque Doëg l’Iduméen fut venu faire un rapport à Saül en lui disant: "David est entré dans la maison d’Abimélec." Pourquoi te glorifier de ta cruauté, homme vaillant? La bonté de Dieu ne se dément jamais.

2 Engulfing ruin you plot, your tongue like a razor sharpened, you practiser of deceit.

Ta langue prépare des ruines, comme un rasoir effilé, ô artisan de perfidie!

3 Evil, not good, you love, and falsehood, not words of truth. (Selah)

Tu donnes la préférence au mal sur le bien, tu aimes mieux mentir que parler loyalement. (Sélah)

4 But you love all words that devour, and a tongue that is given to deceit.

Tu n’as de goût que pour les discours malfaisants, pour le langage de l’astuce.

5 But God, on his part, shall destroy you forever, grasp you and pluck you out of your tent, and root you out of the land of the living. (Selah)

Aussi Dieu t’abattra-t-il pour toujours; il t’empoignera et t’arrachera de ta tente; il te déracinera de la terre des vivants. (Sélah)

6 Smitten with awe at the sight, the righteous shall laugh at you.

Les justes en seront témoins, saisis de respect, et ils riront de lui.

7 ‘Look’ (they will say) ‘at the hero who did not make God his stronghold, but trusted in his great wealth and in the strength of his riches.’

"Le voilà, l’homme qui ne cherchait pas sa force en Dieu, mais qui se fiait à sa grande richesse, et faisait le fier dans sa passion du mal!"

8 But I am like a fresh olive-tree in the house of God. I trust in the kindness of God for ever and evermore.

Tandis que moi, je suis comme un olivier verdoyant, dans la maison de Dieu; je mets à jamais ma confiance dans la bonté de Dieu.

9 I will render you thanks for ever for what you have done. I will tell how good you are in the presence of those who love you.

Eternellement, je veux te rendre grâce pour ce que tu as fait, et placer mon espoir en ton nom, car tu es bon à l’égard de tes pieux serviteurs.
