Matthew 2
1 After the birth of Jesus at Bethlehem in Judea, in the reign of King Herod, some astrologers from the East arrived in Jerusalem, asking,
੧ਰਾਜਾ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਹੂਦਿਯਾ ਦੇ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਵਿੱਚ, ਜਦ ਯਿਸੂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਹੋਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਵੇਖੋ, ਕਈ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਖੋਜੀ ਪੂਰਬ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਪੁੱਛਣ ਲੱਗੇ,
2 ‘Where is the newborn king of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him.’
੨ਜਿਹੜਾ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹੈ? ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਪੂਰਬ ਵੱਲ ਉਹ ਦਾ ਤਾਰਾ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਣ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ।
3 When King Herod heard of this, he was much troubled, and so too was all Jerusalem.
੩ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਸਮੇਤ ਘਬਰਾ ਗਿਆ।
4 He called together all the chief priests and teachers of the Law in the nation, and questioned them as to where the Christ was to be born.
੪ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਜਾਜਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠਿਆਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਜੋ ਮਸੀਹ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਜੰਮੇਗਾ?
5 ‘At Bethlehem in Judea,’ was their answer, ‘for it is said in the prophet –
੫ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ਯਹੂਦਿਯਾ ਦੇ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਨਬੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ,
6 “And you, Bethlehem in Judah’s land, are in no way least among the chief cities of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler – who will shepherd my people Israel.”’
੬ਹੇ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ, ਤੂੰ ਜੋ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹੈਂ, ਹਾਕਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਛੋਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹਾਕਮ ਨਿੱਕਲੇਗਾ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਰਜਾ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੀ ਚਰਵਾਹੀ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
7 Then Herod secretly sent for the astrologers. He found out from them the time of the appearance of the star.
੭ਤਦ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਖੋਜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਪਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਸਹੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਤਾਰਾ ਕਦੋਂ ਵਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
8 Sending them to Bethlehem he said, ‘Go and make a careful search for the child. When you have found him, bring word back to me, so that I, too, can go and worship him.’
੮ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਵੱਲ ਇਹ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਕਿ ਜਾਓ ਅਤੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਬਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੋਜ ਕਰੋ, ਜਦ ਉਹ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਵੇ, ਤਦ ਵਾਪਸ ਆ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਦਿਓ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਾਂ।
9 The astrologers heard what the king had to say, and then continued their journey. The star which they had seen in the east led them on, until it reached and stood over the place where the child was.
੯ਉਹ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪਏ, ਅਤੇ ਵੇਖੋ, ਉਹ ਤਾਰਾ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੂਰਬ ਵੱਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਸੀ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ-ਅੱਗੇ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਜਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਹ ਬਾਲਕ ਸੀ।
10 At the sight of the star they were filled with joy.
੧੦ਤਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਅਨੰਦ ਹੋਏ।
11 Entering the house, they saw the child with his mother, Mary, and fell at his feet and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasure chests, and offered to the child presents of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
੧੧ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ, ਅਤੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਥੈਲੀਆਂ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਸੋਨਾ, ਲੁਬਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਗੰਧਰਸ ਦੀ ਭੇਟ ਚੜਾਈ।
12 But afterwards, having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their own country by another road.
੧੨ਅਤੇ ਸੁਫ਼ਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਪਾ ਕੇ, ਜੋ ਉਹ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਫਿਰ ਨਾ ਜਾਣ, ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਰਸਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਗਏ।
13 After they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, and said, ‘Get up, take the child and his mother, and seek refuge in Egypt; and stay there until I tell you to return, for Herod is about to search for the child, to put him to death.’
੧੩ਜਦ ਉਹ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ਤਾਂ ਵੇਖੋ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਤ ਨੇ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਫ਼ਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਉੱਠ! ਬਾਲਕ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮਿਸਰ ਦੇਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੱਜ ਜਾ, ਅਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਆਖਾਂ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਰਹੀਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ, ਇਸ ਬਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਲੱਭੇਗਾ।
14 Joseph woke up, and taking the child and his mother by night, went into Egypt,
੧੪ਤਦ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਰਾਤੋਂ ਰਾਤ ਬਾਲਕ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮਿਸਰ ਵੱਲ ਤੁਰ ਪਿਆ।
15 and there he stayed until Herod’s death. This was in fulfilment of these words of the Lord in the prophet, where he says – “Out of Egypt I called my Son.”
੧੫ਅਤੇ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੱਕ ਉੱਥੇ ਰਿਹਾ । ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਬਚਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਨਬੀ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ।
16 When Herod found out that the astrologers had tricked him, he flew into a rage. He sent and put to death all the boys in Bethlehem and the whole of that region, who were two years old or under, guided by the time which he had learned from the astrologers.
੧੬ਜਦ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਖੋਜੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਚਲਾਕੀ ਕੀਤੀ, ਤਦ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਕੇ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਦੇ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਬਾਲਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਰਵਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਦੋ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟੇ ਸਨ, ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਖੋਜੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਠੀਕ ਪਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।
17 Then were fulfilled these words spoken in the prophet Jeremiah, where he says –
੧੭ਤਦ ਉਹ ਬਚਨ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਯਿਰਮਿਯਾਹ ਨਬੀ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ
18 “A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and mourning loudly; Rachel, weeping for her children, refusing all comfort for they were dead.”
੧੮ਰਾਮਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਰੋਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ। ਰਾਖ਼ੇਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਾਲ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।
19 But, on the death of Herod, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, and said,
੧੯ਜਦ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਵੇਖੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਤ ਨੇ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਫ਼ਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਸ਼ਣ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ,
20 ‘Get up, take the child and his mother, and go into the Land of Israel, for those who sought to take the child’s life are dead.’
੨੦ਉੱਠ, ਬਾਲਕ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ ਦੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਸਨ, ਉਹ ਮਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
21 He woke up, and taking the child and his mother, went into the Land of Israel.
੨੧ਤਦ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਉੱਠਿਆ, ਬਾਲਕ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ।
22 But, hearing that Archelaus had succeeded his father Herod as king of Judea, he was afraid to go back there; and having been warned in a dream, he went into the part of the country called Galilee.
੨੨ਪਰ ਜਦ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਜੋ ਅਰਕਿਲਾਊਸ ਯਹੂਦਿਯਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉੱਥੇ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਡਰਿਆ, ਪਰ ਸੁਫ਼ਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਿਤਾਵਨੀ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਗਲੀਲ ਦੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
23 There he settled in the town of Nazareth, in fulfilment of these words in the prophets – “He will be called a Nazarene.”
੨੩ਅਤੇ ਨਾਸਰਤ ਨਗਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਬਚਨ ਨਬੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਆਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਜੋ ਉਹ ਨਾਸਰੀ ਅਖਵਾਵੇਗਾ।
