< Mark 4 >
1 Jesus again began to teach by the sea; and, as an immense crowd was gathering round him, he got into a boat, and sat in it on the sea, while all the people were on the shore at the water’s edge.

2 Then he taught them many truths in parables; and in the course of his teaching he said to them:
Ana nanori naeꞌ neu se nendiꞌ nekendandaaꞌ nae,
3 ‘Listen! The sower went out to sow;
“Rena matalolole! Atahori sa neu nggari fini sia osi na.
4 and presently, as he was sowing, some of the seed fell along the path; and the birds came, and ate it up.
Fini naa ra, ruma tudꞌa sia dala ata. De mbuiꞌ ra rema bito hendi basa fini ra.
5 Some fell on rocky ground, where it had not much soil, and, because the soil wasn’t deep, sprang up at once;
Fini ruma tudꞌa sia rae fatu-fatuꞌ. Ara mori halalai, te huu rae a niꞌis,
6 but, when the sun rose, it was scorched, and, because their roots were not deep enough, withered away.
relo a botiꞌ boe, numbuꞌ naa ra male meto hendi se. Huu oka nara nda masoꞌ losa rala sa.
7 Some of the seed fell among brambles; but the brambles shot up and completely choked it, and it yielded no return.
Fini ruma tudꞌa sia unu hau anaꞌ. Boe ma unu hau anaꞌ a hapi nisa numbuꞌ naa ra, de nda bisa mori sa.
8 Some fell into good soil, and, shooting up and growing, yielded a return, amounting to thirty, sixty, and even a hundred fold.’
Fini ruma tudꞌa sia rae isiꞌ a. De ranumbu, raꞌamoko, rabuna, no rabꞌoa. Ruma rabꞌoa telu nulu, ruma nee nulu, ma ruma losa natun esa.
9 And Jesus said, ‘Let anyone who has ears to hear with hear.’
Se mandikiꞌ, rena matalolole!’
10 Afterwards, when he was alone, his followers and the Twelve asked him about his parables;
Leleꞌ Yesus mesaꞌ ne, mana tungga kasanahulu ruaꞌ ra, ro atahori laen baꞌubꞌe mana rena basa Eni nenori na, ara rema randaa ro E. Ara roꞌe Eni nafadꞌe nekendandaaꞌ naa sosoa na.
11 and he said, ‘To you the hidden truth of the kingdom of God has been imparted; but to those who are outside it all teaching takes the form of parables so that –
Boe ma Yesus nataa nae, ‘Huu hei mae mihine tebꞌe-tebꞌeꞌ Lamatualain parenda na, de Au ufadꞌe memaꞌ nekendandaaꞌ naa sosoa na. Te mete ma atahori laen naa, Au unori noꞌ a nekendandaaꞌ.
12 “Though they have eyes, they may see without perceiving; and though they have ears, they may hear without understanding; otherwise some day they might turn and be forgiven.”’
Te mia dalahulu na Lamatualain mana dui-bꞌengga nara suraꞌ hela atahori naa ra hadꞌaꞌ nara rae, ‘Sira rita ena, te nda nau rahine sa. Sira rena ena, te nda nau bubꞌuluꞌ sa. Hela fo afiꞌ ramahere Lamatualain, fo Lamatualain afiꞌ parlu fee ambon neu sala nara.”
13 ‘You do not know the meaning of this parable?’ he went on, ‘Then how will you understand all the other parables?
Basa naa boe, Yesus nafadꞌe se nekendandaaꞌ naa sosoa na nae, “Wei! Mete ma hei nda feꞌe mihine nekendandaaꞌ ia sosoa na sa, taꞌo bee fo hei bisa mihine nekendandaaꞌ laen sosoa na?
14 The sower sows the message.
De eni sosoa na, taꞌo ia: Atahori mana nggari fini naa, eni onaꞌ a atahori mana dui-bꞌengga Lamatualain Hara-lii na.
15 The people meant by the seed that falls along the path are these – where the message is sown, but, as soon as they have heard it, Satan immediately comes and carries away the message that has been sown in them.
Fini mana tudꞌa sia dalaꞌ ata losa mbuiꞌ ra bito hendi, onaꞌ atahori mana rena Lamatualain hara-lii na. Te nda doo saꞌ ma, malanga nitu ra nema de haꞌi nendi hara-lii naa mia atahori naa rala na.
16 So, too, those meant by the seed sown on the rocky places are the people who, when they have heard the message, at once accept it joyfully;
Fini mana tudꞌa sia rae fafatuꞌ naa, onaꞌ atahori mana rena ma simbo nala hara-lii naa no rala nemehoꞌot.
17 but, as they have no root, they stand only for a short time; and so, when trouble or persecution arises because of the message, they fall away at once.
Te hara-lii naa nda naꞌoka sa. Naa de ana nda nenembedꞌa dooꞌ sia atahori rala na sa. Mete ma atahori laen naꞌasususaꞌ e, ana mboꞌi hendi e neuꞌ ena.
18 Those meant by the seed sown among the brambles are different; they are the people who hear the message,
Fini mana tudꞌa sia unu hau anaꞌ a, onaꞌ atahori mana rena nala hara-lii naa.
19 but the cares of life, and the glamour of wealth, and cravings for many other things come in and completely choke the message, so that it gives no return. (aiōn )
Te ana akaꞌ tasibꞌu no tataos mataꞌ-mataꞌ, fo namasuꞌi. Tataos naa ra seti hendi hara-lii mia rala na, de nda nendi papakeꞌ sa. (aiōn )
20 But the people meant by the seed sown on the good ground are those who hear the message, and welcome it, and yield a return, thirty, sixty, and even a hundred fold.’
Fini mana tudꞌa sia rae isiꞌ a, onaꞌ a atahori mana rena no simbo nala hara-lii naa, ma tungga Lamatuaꞌ hihii na. Ana tao saa-saa akaꞌ maloleꞌ, onaꞌ a fini mana maboaꞌ. Hambu ruma boaꞌ telunulu, ruma neenulu, ma ruma losa natun esa.”
21 Jesus said to them, ‘Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under the couch, instead of being put on the lamp-stand?
Yesus olaꞌ nakandoo mia ofaꞌ ata. Ana fee seluꞌ nekendandaaꞌ esa nae, “Taꞌo bee! Atahori pake lambu, basa ma tatana sia boa rala? Do mbedꞌa e sia mamana susungguꞌ a raeꞌ? Hokoꞌ, to? Mete ma tao taꞌo naa, nda manggareloꞌ saꞌ ena. Atahori musi tao lambu neu mamana naruꞌ fo manggareloꞌ.
22 There is nothing hidden that will not come to light and nothing is concealed that will not be brought into the open.
De saa fo maꞌafuniꞌ aleꞌ ia, dei fo nene nitaꞌ. Saa fo atahori nda rahine aleꞌ ia sa, dei fo rahine.
23 Let all who have ears to hear with hear.
Seka mandikiꞌ, rena matalolole.”
24 ‘Take care what you listen to,’ said Jesus. ‘The standard you use will be used for you, and more will be added for you.
Basa ma Ana olaꞌ seluꞌ nae, “Dꞌua matalolole Au nenori ngga ia! Mete ma hei uku atahori laen tatao na, atahori o uku hei tataꞌo ma onaꞌ naa boe. Lamatualain o uku hei tatao ma boe. Te Eni uꞌuku na, bera na lenaꞌ.
25 For, to those who have, more will be given; while, from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away.’
Atahori mana rae sangga Lamatualain hihii-nanau na, ana tamba mahine. Te atahori mana nda nau fadꞌuli Lamatualain hihii-nanau na sa, ana tamba namanggoa.
26 Jesus also said, ‘This is what the kingdom of God is like – like a man who has scattered seed on the ground,
Basa naa ma Yesus olaꞌ seluꞌ nae, “Lamatualain nusaꞌ-namo na onaꞌ a fini fo atahori nggari sia osi na.
27 and then sleeps by night and rises by day, while the seed is shooting up and growing – he knows not how.
Mae atahori naa baliꞌ, sungguꞌ-fela, nda nasanedꞌa fini naa sa ena, te fini naa nanumbu ma naꞌamoko nakandooꞌ a.
28 The ground bears the crop of itself – first the blade, then the ear, and then the full grain in the ear;
Fini naa nasodꞌa ao na sia rae a, de nadana, nabuna, losa naisi.
29 but, as soon as the crop is ready, immediately he puts in the sickle because harvest has come.’
Mete ma namatasa na, tenu osiꞌ a nahineꞌ a nema oruꞌ. Lamatualain nusaꞌ-namo na onaꞌ a naa boe. Basa naa ra, Lamatualain mana tao, nda atahori mana tao sa.”
30 Jesus also said, ‘To what can we liken the kingdom of God?
Basa naa ma, Yesus olaꞌ seluꞌ nae, “Au fee seluꞌ nekendandaaꞌ esa fo hei mihine Lamatualain atahori nara. Fefeu na hidꞌaꞌ a, te bau dooꞌ, sira bau ramaheta.
31 By what can we illustrate it? Perhaps by the growth of a mustard seed. This seed, when sown in the ground, though it is smaller than all other seeds,
Fefeu na, sira onaꞌ a deke anahikiꞌ.
32 yet, when sown, shoots up, and becomes larger than any other herb, and puts out great branches, so that even the wild birds can roost in its shelter.’
Mete ma sela tala e naa, ana nasodꞌa dadꞌi hau huu ineꞌ. Mbui ra rema sangga mafoꞌ fo randuna sia ataꞌ.”
33 With many such parables Jesus used to speak to the people of his message, as far as they were able to receive it;
Taꞌo naa Yesus nanori se, nandaa no sisimbo nara.
34 and to them he never used to speak except in parables; but in private to his own disciples he explained everything.
Mete ma nanori atahori naeꞌ, ana pakeꞌ a nekendandaaꞌ. Te mete ma no mana tungga nara, Ana nafadꞌe nekendandaaꞌ no sosoa na.
35 In the evening of the same day, Jesus said to them, ‘Let us go across.’
Bobꞌo naa, Yesus feꞌe sia ofaꞌ ataꞌ. De Ana noꞌe mana tungga nara nae, “Ima tisiꞌ seriꞌ naa.”
36 So, leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them, just as he was, in the boat; and there were other boats with him.

37 A violent squall came on, and the waves kept dashing into the boat, so that the boat was actually filling.
Faiꞌ naa, Yesus sungguꞌ nasambeta ndae langga na neu ainulu a mia ofaꞌ deaꞌ. Nda dooꞌ saꞌ boe, sanggu anin losa. Ree ra poꞌa oe a masoꞌ nisiꞌ ofaꞌ rala, losa naeꞌ a sofe. De mana tungga nara ramatau. Ara fafae rae, “Papa! Fela dei! Hita tae molo ena! Papa nda nau hita tasodꞌa sa, do?”
38 Jesus was in the stern asleep on the cushion; and the disciples roused him and cried, ‘Teacher! Is it nothing to you that we are lost?’
39 Jesus rose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Hush! Be still!’ Then the wind dropped, and a great calm followed.

40 ‘Why are you so timid?’ he exclaimed. ‘Have you no faith yet?’

41 But they were struck with great awe, and said to one another, ‘Who can this be that even the wind and the sea obey him?’
