John 5
1 Sometime after this there was a Jewish Festival; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
১এর পরে ইহূদিদের একটি উত্সব ছিল এবং যীশু যিরূশালেমে গিয়েছিলেন।
2 There is in Jerusalem, near the sheep-gate, a bath with five colonnades round it. It is called in Hebrew “Bethesda.”
২যিরূশালেমে মেষ ফটকের কাছে একটি পুকুর আছে, ইব্রীয় ভাষায় সেই পুকুরের নাম বৈথেসদা, তার পাঁচটি ছাদ দেওয়া ঘাট আছে।
3 In these colonnades a large number of sick people were lying – blind, lame, and crippled.
৩সেই সব ঘাটে অনেকে যারা অসুস্থ মানুষ, অন্ধ, খঞ্জ ও যাদের শরীর শুকিয়ে গেছে তারা পড়ে থাকত।
৪[তারা জলকম্পনের অপেক্ষায় থাকত। কারণ বিশেষ বিশেষ দিনের ঐ পুকুরে প্রভুর এক দূত নেমে আসতেন ও জল কম্পন করতেন; সেই জলকম্পের পরে যে কেউ প্রথমে জলে নামত তার যে কোন রোগ হোক সে ভালো হয়ে যেতো।]
5 One man who was there had been crippled for thirty-eight years.
৫সেখানে একজন অসুস্থ মানুষ ছিল, সে আটত্রিশ বছর ধরে অচল অবস্থায় আছে।
6 Jesus saw the man lying there, and, finding that he had been in this state a long time, said to him, ‘Do you wish to be cured?’
৬যখন যীশু তাকে পড়ে থাকতে দেখলেন এবং অনেকদিন ধরে সেই অবস্থায় আছে জানতে পেরে তিনি তাকে বললেন, “তুমি কি সুস্থ হতে চাও?”
7 ‘I have no one, Sir,’ the sick man answered, ‘to put me into the bath when there is a troubling of the water, and, while I am getting to it, someone else steps down before me.’
৭অসুস্থ মানুষটি উত্তর দিলেন, মহাশয়, আমার কেউ নেই যে, যখন জল কম্পিত হয় তখন আমাকে পুকুরে নামিয়ে দেয়; আমি যখন চেষ্টা করি, অন্য একজন আমার আগে নেমে পড়ে।
8 ‘Stand up,’ said Jesus, ‘take up your mat, and walk.’
৮যীশু তাকে বললেন, “উঠ, তোমার বিছানা তুলে নাও এবং হেঁটে বেড়াও।”
9 The man was cured immediately, and took up his mat and began walking.
৯সেই মুহূর্তেই ওই মানুষটি সুস্থ হয়ে গেল এবং নিজের বিছানা তুলে নিয়ে হেঁটে বেড়াতে লাগল। সেই দিন ছিল বিশ্রামবার।
10 Now it was the Sabbath. So the religious authorities said to the man who had been cured, ‘This is the Sabbath; you must not carry your mat.’
১০সুতরাং যাকে সুস্থ করা হয়েছিল তাকে ইহূদি নেতারা বললে, আজ বিশ্রামবার, ব্যবস্থা অনুসারে বিছানা বয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য তোমার উচিত নয়।
11 ‘The man who cured me,’ he answered, ‘said to me “Take up your mat and walk.”’
১১কিন্তু সে তাদেরকে উত্তর দিল, যিনি আমাকে সুস্থ করেছেন তিনি আমাকে বললেন, “তোমার বিছানা তুলে নিয়ে হেঁটে চলে যাও।”
12 ‘Who was it,’ they asked, ‘that said to you “Take up your mat and walk”?’
১২তারা তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, সেই মানুষটি কে যে তোমাকে বলেছে, “বিছানা তুলে নিয়ে হেঁটে বেড়াও।”
13 But the man who had been restored did not know who it was; for Jesus had moved away, because there was a crowd there.
১৩যদিও যে মানুষটি সুস্থ হয়েছিল সে জানত না তিনি কে ছিলেন, কারণ সেই জায়গায় অনেক লোক থাকার জন্য যীশু সেখান থেকে নিজেকে সরিয়ে নিলেন (চলে গিয়েছিলেন)।
14 Afterwards Jesus found the man in the Temple Courts, and said to him, ‘You are cured now; do not sin again, or something worse may happen to you.’
১৪পরে যীশু উপাসনা ঘরে তাকে দেখতে পেলেন এবং তাকে বললেন, দেখ, তুমি সুস্থ হয়েছ; আর কখনো পাপ করো না, পাছে তোমার প্রতি আর খারাপ কিছু ঘটে।
15 The man went away, and told the authorities that it was Jesus who had cured him.
১৫সেই মানুষটি চলে গেল এবং ইহূদি নেতাদের বলল যে, উনি যীশুই ছিলেন যিনি তাকে সুস্থ করেছেন।
16 And that was why they began to persecute Jesus – because he did things of this kind on the Sabbath.
১৬আর এই সব কারণে ইহূদি নেতারা যীশুকে তাড়না করতে লাগল, কারণ তিনি বিশ্রামবারে এই সব কাজ করছিলেন।
17 But Jesus replied, ‘My Father works to this very hour, and I work also.’
১৭যীশু তাদেরকে উত্তর দিলেন, আমার পিতা এখনও পর্যন্ত কাজ করেন এবং আমিও করি।
18 This made the authorities all the more eager to kill him, because not only was he doing away with the Sabbath, but he actually called God his own Father – putting himself on an equality with God.
১৮এই কারণে ইহূদিরা তাঁকে মেরে ফেলার খুব চেষ্টা করছিল কারণ তিনি শুধু বিশ্রামবারের নিয়ম ভাঙছিলেন তা নয় কিন্তু তিনি ঈশ্বরকেও নিজের পিতা বলে নিজেকে ঈশ্বরের সমান করতেন।
19 So Jesus made this further reply, ‘In truth I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself; he does only what he sees the Father doing; whatever the Father does, the Son does also.
১৯যীশু তাদেরকে উত্তর দিয়ে বললেন, সত্য, সত্য, পুত্র নিজে থেকে কিছুই করতে পারেন না, কেবল পিতাকে যা কিছু করতে দেখেন, তাই করেন; কারণ তিনি যা কিছু করেন পুত্রও সেই সব একইভাবে করেন।
20 For the Father loves his Son, and shows him everything that he is doing; and he will show him still greater things – so that you will be filled with wonder.
২০কারণ পিতা পুত্রকে ভালবাসেন এবং তিনি নিজে যা কিছু করেন সবই তাঁকে দেখান এবং এর থেকেও মহৎ কাজ তাঁকে দেখাবেন যেন তোমরা সবাই আশ্চর্য্য হও।
21 For, just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he pleases.
২১কারণ পিতা যেমন মৃতদের ওঠান এবং জীবন দান করেন, সেই রকম পুত্রও যাদেরকে ইচ্ছা করেন তাকে জীবন দেন।
22 The Father himself does not judge any one, but has entrusted the work of judging entirely to his Son,
২২কারণ পিতা কারও বিচার করেন না কিন্তু সব বিচারের ভার পুত্রকে দিয়েছেন,
23 so that everyone may honour the Son, just as they honour the Father. The person who does not honour the Son fails to honour the Father who sent him.
২৩সুতরাং সবাই যেমন পিতাকে সম্মান করে, তেমনি পুত্রকে সবাই সম্মান করে। যে পুত্রকে সম্মান করে না, সে পিতাকে সম্মান করে না যিনি তাঁকে পাঠিয়েছেন।
24 In truth I tell you that the person who listens to my message and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and does not come under condemnation, but has already passed out of death into life. (aiōnios g166)
২৪সত্য, সত্যই বলছি যে কেউ আমার বাক্য শুনে এবং যিনি আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করে সে অনন্ত জীবন পেয়েছে এবং তাকে দোষী করা হবে না কিন্তু সে মৃত্যু থেকে জীবনে পার হয়ে গেছে। (aiōnios g166)
25 In truth I tell you that a time is coming, indeed it is already here, when the dead will listen to the voice of the Son of God, and when those who listen will live.
২৫সত্য, সত্যই বলছি এমন দিন আসছে, বরং এখন সেই দিন, যখন মৃতেরা ঈশ্বরের পুত্রের গলার শব্দ শুনবে এবং যারা শুনবে তারা জীবিত হবে।
26 For, just as the Father has inherent life within him, so also he has granted to the Son to have inherent life within him;
২৬কারণ পিতার যেমন নিজেতে জীবন আছে, তেমনি তিনি পুত্রকেও নিজেতে জীবন রাখতে দিয়েছেন।
27 and, because he is Son of Man, he has also given him authority to act as judge.
২৭এবং তিনি তাঁকে বিচার করার অধিকার দিয়েছেন কারণ তিনি মনুষ্যপুত্র।
28 Do not wonder at this; for the time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice,
২৮এই জন্য বিষ্মিত হয়ো না, কারণ এমন দিন আসছে, যখন কবরের মধ্যে যারা আছে তারা সবাই তাঁর গলার শব্দ শুনতে পাবে,
29 and will come out – those who have done good rising to life, and those who have lived evil lives rising for condemnation.
২৯এবং যারা জীবনের পুনরুত্থানের জন্য ভালো কাজ করেছে ও যারা খারাপ কাজ করেছে তারা বিচারের পুনরুত্থানের জন্য বের হয়ে আসবে।
30 I can do nothing of myself; I judge as I am taught; and the judgment that I give is just, because my aim is not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.
৩০আমি নিজের থেকে কিছুই করতে পারি না। আমি যেমন শুনি তেমন বিচার করি এবং আমার বিচার ন্যায়পরায়ন কারণ আমি নিজের ইচ্ছা পূর্ণ করতে চেষ্টা করি না কিন্তু আমাকে যিনি পঠিয়েছেন তাঁর ইচ্ছা পূর্ণ করতে চেষ্ঠা করি।
31 ‘If I bear testimony to myself, my testimony is not trustworthy;
৩১আমি যদি নিজের সমন্ধে নিজে সাক্ষ্য দিই, তবে আমার সাক্ষ্য সত্য হবে না।
32 it is another who bears testimony to me, and I know that the testimony which he bears to me is trustworthy.
৩২আমার সমন্ধে অন্য আর একজন সাক্ষ্য দিচ্ছেন এবং আমি জানি যে আমার সমন্ধে তিনি যে সাক্ষ্য দিচ্ছেন সেই সাক্ষ্য সত্য।
33 You have yourselves sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.
৩৩তোমরা যোহনের কাছে লোক পাঠিয়েছ এবং তিনি সত্যের হয়ে সাক্ষ্য দিয়েছেন।
34 But the testimony which I receive is not from people; I am saying this for your salvation.
৩৪আমি যে সাক্ষ্য গ্রহণ করি তা মানুষ থেকে নয় তবুও আমি এই সব বলছি যেন তোমরা পরিত্রান পাও।
35 He was the Lamp that was burning and shining, and you were ready to rejoice, for a time, in his light.
৩৫যোহন একজন জলন্ত ও আলোময় প্রদীপ ছিলেন এবং তোমরা তাঁর আলোতে কিছু দিন আনন্দ করতে রাজি হয়েছিলে।
36 But the testimony which I have is of greater weight than John’s; for the work that the Father has given me to carry out – the work that I am doing – is in itself proof that the Father has sent me as his messenger.
৩৬কিন্তু যোহনের দেওয়া সাক্ষ্য থেকে আমার আরও বড় সাক্ষ্য আছে; কারণ পিতা আমাকে যে সব কাজ সম্পন্ন করতে দিয়েছেন, যে সব কাজ আমি করছি, সেই সব আমার উদ্দেশ্যে এই সাক্ষ্য দেয় যে পিতা আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন।
37 The Father who has sent me has himself borne testimony to me. You have neither listened to his voice, not seen his form;
৩৭আর পিতা যিনি আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন, তিনিই আমার সম্পর্কে সাক্ষ্য দিয়েছেন। তাঁর গলার শব্দ তোমরা কখনও শোননি, তাঁর আকারও কখনো দেখনি।
38 and you have not taken his message home to your hearts, because you do not believe him whom he sent as his messenger.
৩৮তাঁর বাক্য তোমাদের অন্তরে থাকে না; কারণ তিনি যাকে পাঠিয়েছেন তোমরা তাঁকে বিশ্বাস কর না।
39 You search the scriptures, because you think that you find in them immortal life; and, though it is those scriptures that bear testimony to me, (aiōnios g166)
৩৯তোমরা পবিত্র শাস্ত্র খোঁজ করো কারণ তোমরা মনে করো যে তাতেই তোমাদের অনন্ত জীবন আছে এবং এই একই বাক্য আমার সম্পর্কে সাক্ষ্য দেয়; (aiōnios g166)
40 you refuse to come to me to have life.
৪০এবং তোমরা জীবন পাবার জন্য আমার কাছে আসতে রাজি হও না।
41 ‘I do not receive honour from people,
৪১আমি মানুষদের থেকে গৌরব নিই না!
42 but I know this of you, that you have not the love of God in your hearts.
৪২কিন্তু আমি জানি যে তোমাদের হৃদয়ে ঈশ্বরের ভালবাসা নেই।
43 I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not receive me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.
৪৩আমি আমার পিতার নামে এসেছি এবং তোমরা আমাকে গ্রহণ কর না। যদি অন্য কেউ তার নিজের নামে আসে, তাকে তোমরা গ্রহণ করবে।
44 How can you believe in me, when you receive honour from one another and do not desire the honour which comes from the only God?
৪৪তোমরা কিভাবে বিশ্বাস করবে? তোমরা তো একে অপরের কাছ থেকে প্রশংসা গ্রহণ করছ কিন্তু শুধুমাত্র ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকে যে গৌরব আসে তার চেষ্ঠা কর না।
45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; your accuser is Moses, on whom you have been resting your hopes.
৪৫মনে করো না যে আমি পিতার কাছে তোমাদের দোষী করব। সেখানে আর একজন আছেন যিনি তোমাদের দোষী করেন তিনি হলেন মোশি যাঁর উপরে তোমরা আশা রেখেছ।
46 For, had you believed Moses, you would have believed me, for it was of me that Moses wrote;
৪৬যদি তোমরা মোশিকে বিশ্বাস করতে তবে আমাকেও বিশ্বাস করতে, কারণ আমার সম্পর্কেই তিনি লিখেছেন।
47 but, if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my teaching?’
৪৭যেহেতু তাঁর লেখায় বিশ্বাস কর না, তবে আমার বাক্যে কিভাবে বিশ্বাস করবে?
