John 13
1 Before the Passover Festival began, Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave the world and go to the Father. He had loved those who were his own in the world, and he loved them to the last.
Före påskhögtiden hände sig detta. Jesus visste att stunden var kommen för honom att gå bort ifrån denna världen till Fadern; och såsom han allt hittills hade älskat sina egna här i världen, så gav han dem nu ett yttersta bevis på sin kärlek.
2 The devil had already put the thought of betraying Jesus into the mind of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon;
De höllo nu aftonmåltid, och djävulen hade redan ingivit Judas Iskariot, Simons son, i hjärtat att förråda Jesus.
3 and at supper, Jesus – although knowing that the Father had put everything into his hands, and that he had come from God, and was to return to God –
Och Jesus visste att Fadern hade givit allt i hans händer, och att han hade gått ut från Gud och skulle gå till Gud.
4 rose from his place, and, taking off his upper garments, tied a towel round his waist.
Men han stod upp från måltiden och lade av sig överklädnaden och tog en linneduk och band den om sig.
5 He then poured some water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel which was tied round him.
Sedan slog han vatten i ett bäcken och begynte två lärjungarnas fötter och torkade dem med linneduken som han hade bundit om sig.
6 When he came to Simon Peter, Peter said, ‘You, Master! Are you going to wash my feet?’
Så kom han till Simon Petrus. Denne sade då till honom: "Herre, skulle du två mina fötter?"
7 ‘You do not understand now what I am doing,’ replied Jesus, ‘but you will learn by and by.’
Jesus svarade och sade till honom: "Vad jag gör förstår du icke nu, men framdeles skall du fatta det."
8 ‘You will never wash my feet!’ exclaimed Peter. ‘Unless I wash you,’ answered Jesus, ‘you have nothing in common with me.’ (aiōn g165)
Petrus sade till honom: "Aldrig någonsin skall du två mina fötter!" Jesus svarade honom: "Om jag icke tvår dig, så har du ingen del med mig." (aiōn g165)
9 ‘Then, Master, not my feet only,’ exclaimed Simon Peter, ‘but also my hands and my head.’
Då sade Simon Petrus till honom: "Herre, icke allenast mina fötter, utan ock händer och huvud!"
10 ‘He who has bathed,’ replied Jesus, ‘has no need to wash, unless it be his feet, but is altogether clean; and you,’ he said to the disciples, ‘are clean, yet not all of you.’
Jesus svarade honom: "Den som är helt tvagen, han behöver allenast två fötterna; han är ju i övrigt hel och hållen ren. Så ären ock I rena -- dock icke alla."
11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said “You are not all clean.”
Han visste nämligen vem det var som skulle förråda honom; därför sade han att de icke alla voro rena.
12 When he had washed their feet, and had put on his upper garments and taken his place, he spoke to them again. ‘Do you understand what I have been doing to you?’ he asked.
Sedan han nu hade tvagit deras fötter och tagit på sig överklädnaden och åter lagt sig ned vid bordet, sade han till dem: "Förstån I vad jag har gjort med eder?
13 ‘You yourselves call me “the teacher” and “the Master”, and you are right, for I am both.
I kallen mig 'Mästare' och 'Herre', och I säger rätt, ty jag är så.
14 If I, then – “the Master” and “the teacher” – have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet;
Har nu jag, eder Herre och Mästare, tvagit edra fötter, så ären ock I pliktiga att två varandras fötter.
15 for I have given you an example, so that you may do just as I have done to you.
Jag har ju givit eder ett föredöme, för att I skolen göra såsom jag har gjort mot eder.
16 In truth I tell you, a servant is not greater than their master, neither is a messenger greater than the one who sends them.
Sannerligen, sannerligen säger jag eder: Tjänaren är icke förmer än sin herre, ej heller sändebudet förmer än den som har sänt honom.
17 Now that you know these things, happy are you if you do them.
Då I veten detta, saliga ären I, om I ock gören det.
18 I am not speaking about all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but this is in fulfilment of the words of scripture – “He that is eating my bread has lifted his heel against me.”
Jag talar icke om eder alla; jag vet vilka jag har utvalt. Men detta skriftens ord skulle ju fullbordas: 'Den som åt mitt bröd, han lyfte mot mig sin häl.'
19 For the future I will tell you of things before they take place, so that, when they take place, you may believe that I am what I am.
Redan nu, förrän det sker, säger jag eder det, för att I, när det har skett, skolen tro att jag är den jag är.
20 In truth I tell you, the one who receives anyone that I send receives me; and the person who receives me receives him who sent me.’
Sannerligen, sannerligen säger jag eder: Den som tager emot den jag sänder, han tager emot mig; och den som tager emot mig, han tager emot honom som har sänt mig."
21 After saying this, Jesus was much troubled, and said solemnly, ‘In truth I tell you that it is one of you who will betray me.’
När Jesus hade sagt detta, blev han upprörd i sin ande och betygade och sade: "Sannerligen, sannerligen säger jag eder: En av eder skall förråda mig."
22 The disciples looked at one another, wondering whom he meant.
Då sågo lärjungarna på varandra och undrade vilken han talade om.
23 Next to Jesus, in the place on his right hand, was one of his disciples, whom he loved.
Nu var där bland lärjungarna en som låg till bords invid Jesu bröst, den lärjunge som Jesus älskade.
24 So Simon Peter made signs to that disciple, and whispered, ‘Tell me who it is that he means.’
Åt denne gav då Simon Petrus ett tecken och sade till honom: "Säg vilken det är som han talar om."
25 Being in this position, that disciple leant back on Jesus’ shoulder, and asked him, ‘Who is it, Master?’
Han lutade sig då mot Jesu bröst och frågade honom: "Herre, vilken är det?"
26 ‘It is the one,’ answered Jesus, ‘to whom I will give a piece of bread after dipping it in the dish.’ And, when Jesus had dipped the bread, he took it and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot;
Då svarade Jesus: "Det är den åt vilken jag räcker brödstycket som jag nu doppar." Därvid doppade han brödstycket och räckte det åt Judas, Simon Iskariots son.
27 and it was then, after he had received it, that Satan took possession of him. So Jesus said to him, ‘Do at once what you are going to do.’
Då, när denne hade tagit emot brödstycket, for Satan in i honom. Och Jesus sade till honom: "Gör snart vad du gör."
28 But no one at the table understood why he said this to Judas.
Men ingen av dem som lågo där till bords förstod varför han sade detta till honom.
29 Some thought that, as Judas kept the purse, Jesus meant that he was to buy some things needed for the Festival, or to give something to the poor.
Ty eftersom Judas hade penningpungen om hand, menade några att Jesus hade velat säga till honom: "Köp vad vi behöva till högtiden", eller ock att han hade tillsagt honom att giva något åt de fattiga.
30 After taking the piece of bread, Judas went out immediately; and it was night.
Då han nu hade tagit emot brödstycket, gick han strax ut; och det var natt.
31 When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, ‘Now the Son of Man has been exalted, and God has been exalted through him;
Och när han hade gått ut, sade Jesus: "Nu är Människosonen förhärligad, och Gud är förhärligad i honom.
32 and God will exalt him with himself – yes, he will exalt him forthwith.
Är nu Gud förhärligad i honom, så skall ock Gud förhärliga honom i sig själv, och han skall snart förhärliga honom.
33 My children, I am to be with you but a little while longer. You will look for me; and what I said to the people – “You cannot come where I am going” – I now say to you.
Kära barn, allenast en liten tid är jag ännu hos eder; I skolen sedan söka efter mig, men det som jag sade till judarna: 'Dit jag går, dit kunnen I icke komma', detsamma säger jag nu ock till eder.
34 I give you a new commandment – love one another; love one another as I have loved you.
Ett nytt bud giver jag eder, att I skolen älska varandra; ja, såsom jag har älskat eder, så skolen ock I älska varandra.
35 It is by this that everyone will recognise you as my disciples – by your loving one another.’
Om I haven kärlek inbördes, så skola alla därav förstå att I ären mina lärjungar."
36 ‘Where are you going, Master?’ asked Peter. ‘I am going where you cannot now follow me,’ answered Jesus, ‘but you will follow me later.’
Då frågade Simon Petrus honom: "Herre, vart går du?" Jesus svarade: "Dit jag går, dit kan du icke nu följa mig; men framdeles skall du följa mig."
37 ‘Why cannot I follow you now, Master?’ asked Peter. ‘I will lay down my life for you.’
Petrus sade till honom: "Herre, varför kan jag icke följa dig nu? Mitt liv vill jag giva för dig."
38 ‘Will you lay down your life for me?’ replied Jesus. ‘In truth I tell you, the cock will not crow until you have disowned me three times.
Jesus svarade: "Ditt liv vill du giva för mig? Sannerligen, sannerligen säger jag dig: Hanen skall icke gala, förrän du tre gånger har förnekat mig."
