James 3
1 Not many of you should become teachers, my friends, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly than others.
FRATELLI miei, non siate molti maestri; sapendo che noi ne riceveremo maggior condannazione.
2 We often make mistakes, every one of us. Anyone who does not make mistakes when speaking is indeed a perfect person, able to bridle their whole body as well.
Poichè tutti falliamo in molte cose; se alcuno non fallisce nel parlare, esso [è] uomo compiuto, [e] può tenere a freno eziandio tutto il corpo.
3 When we put bits into horses’ mouths to make them obey us, we change their course the rest of their bodies.
Ecco, noi mettiamo i freni nelle bocche de' cavalli, acciocchè ci ubbidiscano, e facciamo volgere tutto il corpo loro.
4 Again, think of ships. Large as they are, and even when driven by fierce winds, they are guided by a very small rudder and steered in whatever direction the man at the helm may determine.
Ecco ancora le navi, benchè sieno cotanto grandi, e che sieno sospinte da fieri venti, son volte con un piccolissimo timone, dovunque il movimento di colui che [le] governa vuole.
5 So is it with the tongue. Small as it is, it is a great boaster. Think how a tiny spark may set the largest forest ablaze!
Così ancora la lingua è un piccol membro, e si vanta di gran cose. Ecco, un piccol fuoco quante legne incende!
6 And the tongue is like a spark. It is a world of unrighteousness among the parts of our body. It contaminates the whole body; it sets the whole course of our existence on fire, and is itself set on fire by the flames of Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
La lingua altresì [è] un fuoco, [è] il mondo dell'iniquità; così dentro alle nostre membra è posta la lingua, la qual contamina tutto il corpo, e infiamma la ruota della vita, ed è infiammata dalla geenna. (Geenna g1067)
7 For while all kinds of animals, birds and reptiles and sea creatures can be tamed and have been tamed by humans,
Poichè ogni generazione di fiere, e d'uccelli, e di rettili, e d'animali marini, si doma ed è stata domata dalla natura umana;
8 no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless plague! It is charged with deadly poison!
ma niun uomo può domar la lingua; ella [è] un male che non si può rattenere; [è] piena di mortifero veleno.
9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made “in God’s likeness.”
Per essa benediciamo Iddio e Padre; e per essa malediciamo gli uomini, che son fatti alla simiglianza di Dio.
10 From the very same mouth come blessings and curses! My friends, it is not right that this should be so.
D'una medesima bocca procede benedizione e maledizione. Non bisogna, fratelli miei, che queste cose si facciano in questa maniera.
11 Does a spring give both good and bad water from the same source?
La fonte sgorga ella da una medesima buca il dolce e l'amaro?
12 Can a fig tree, my friends, bear olives? Or a vine bear figs? No, nor can a brackish well give good water.
Può, fratelli miei, un fico fare ulive, o una vite fichi? così niuna fonte può gettare acqua salsa, e dolce.
13 Who among you claims to be wise and intelligent? They should show that their actions are the outcome of a good life lived in the humility of true wisdom.
CHI [è] savio e saputo, fra voi? mostri, per la buona condotta, le sue opere, con mansuetudine di sapienza.
14 But if you harbour bitter envy and a spirit of rivalry in your hearts, do not boast or deny the truth.
Ma, se voi avete nel cuor vostro invidia amara e contenzione, non vi gloriate contro alla verità, e non mentite contro ad essa.
15 That is not the wisdom which comes from above; no, it is earthly, animalistic, demonic.
Questa non è la sapienza che discende da alto; anzi [è] terrena, animale, diabolica.
16 For where envy and rivalry exist, there you will also find disorder and all kinds of bad, worthless actions.
Perciocchè, dov'[è] invidia e contenzione, ivi [è] turbamento ed opera malvagia.
17 But the wisdom from above is, before everything else, pure; then peace-loving, gentle, open to conviction, rich in compassion and good deeds, and free from partiality and insincerity.
Ma la sapienza che [è] da alto prima è pura, poi pacifica, moderata, arrendevole, piena di misericordia e di frutti buoni, senza parzialità, e senza ipocrisia.
18 Justice is the harvest peacemakers will reap from seeds sown in a spirit of peace.
Or il frutto della giustizia si semina in pace da coloro che si adoperano alla pace.
