< Psalms 68 >
1 Let God arise! Let his enemies be scattered! Let them who hate him also flee before him.
In finem, Psalmus Cantici ipsi David.
2 As smoke is driven away, so drive them away. As wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.
Sicut deficit fumus, deficiant: sicut fluit cera a facie ignis, sic pereant peccatores a facie Dei.
3 But let the upright be glad. Let them rejoice before God. Yes, let them rejoice with gladness.
Et iusti epulentur, et exultent in conspectu Dei: et delectentur in lætitia.
4 Sing to God! Sing zahmar ·musical praise· to his name! Extol him who rides on the clouds: to Yah, his name! Rejoice before him!
Cantate Deo, psalmum dicite nomini eius: iter facite ei, qui ascendit super occasum: Dominus nomen illi. Exultate in conspectu eius, turbabuntur a facie eius,
5 A father to orphans, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.
patris orphanorum, et iudicis viduarum. Deus in loco sancto suo:
6 God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.
Deus qui inhabitare facit unius moris in domo: Qui educit vinctos in fortitudine, similiter eos, qui exasperant, qui habitant in sepulchris.
7 God, when you went out before your people, when you marched through the wilderness... (Selah) ·contemplation with musical interlude·.
Deus cum egredereris in conspectu populi tui, cum pertransires in deserto:
8 The earth trembled. The sky also poured down rain at the presence of the God of Sinai— at the presence of God, the God of Israel [God prevails].
Terra mota est, etenim cæli distillaverunt a facie Dei Sinai, a facie Dei Israel.
9 You, God, sent a plentiful rain. You confirmed your inheritance, when it was weary.
10 Your congregation lived therein. You, God, prepared your goodness for the poor.
Animalia tua habitabunt in ea: parasti in dulcedine tua pauperi, Deus.
11 'Adonay [Lord] announced the word. The ones who proclaim it are a great company.
Dominus dabit verbum evangelizantibus, virtute multa.
12 “Kings of armies flee! They flee!” She who waits at home divides the plunder,
Rex virtutum dilecti dilecti: et speciei domus dividere spolia.
13 while you sleep among the camp fires, the wings of a dove sheathed with silver, her feathers with shining gold.
14 When Shaddai [Almighty] scattered kings in her, it snowed on Zalmon.
Dum discernit cælestis reges super eam, nive dealbabuntur in Selmon:
15 The mountains of Bashan are majestic mountains. The mountains of Bashan are rugged.
mons Dei, mons pinguis. Mons coagulatus, mons pinguis:
16 Why do you look in envy, you rugged mountains, at the mountain where God chooses to reign? Yes, Adonai will dwell there forever.
ut quid suspicamini montes coagulatos? Mons, in quo beneplacitum est Deo habitare in eo: etenim Dominus habitabit in finem.
17 The chariots of God are tens of thousands and thousands of thousands. 'Adonay [Lord] is among them, from Sinai [Thorn], into the sanctuary.
Currus Dei decem millibus multiplex, millia lætantium: Dominus in eis in Sina in sancto.
18 You have ascended on high. You have led away captives. You have received gifts among men, yes, among the rebellious also, that Yah God might dwell there.
Ascendisti in altum, cepisti captivitatem: accepisti dona in hominibus: Etenim non credentes, inhabitare Dominum Deum.
19 Blessed be 'Adonay [Lord], who daily bears our burdens, even the God who is our yishu'ah ·salvation·. (Selah) ·contemplation with musical interlude·.
Benedictus Dominus die quotidie: prosperum iter faciet nobis Deus salutarium nostrorum.
20 God is to us a God of deliverance. To Adonai, the 'Adonay [Yahweh the Lord], belongs escape from death.
Deus noster, Deus salvos faciendi: et Domini Domini exitus mortis.
21 But God will strike through the head of his enemies, the hairy scalp of such a one as still continues in his faults incurring guilt.
Verumtamen Deus confringet capita inimicorum suorum: verticem capilli perambulantium in delictis suis.
22 'Adonay [Lord] said, “I will bring you again from Bashan, I will bring you again from the depths of the sea;
Dixit Dominus: Ex Basan convertam, convertam in profundum maris:
23 That you may crush them, dipping your foot in blood, that the tongues of your dogs may have their portion from your enemies.”
24 They have seen your processions, God, even the processions of my God, my King, into the sanctuary.
Viderunt ingressus tuos Deus, ingressus Dei mei: regis mei qui est in sancto.
25 The singers went before, the minstrels followed after, among the ladies playing with tambourines,
Prævenerunt principes coniuncti psallentibus, in medio iuvencularum tympanistriarum.
26 “Bless God in the congregations, even 'Adonay [Lord] in the assembly of Israel [God prevails]!”
In ecclesiis benedicite Deo Domino, de fontibus Israel.
27 There is little Benjamin [Son of right hand, Son of south], their ruler, the princes of Judah [Praised], their council, the princes of Zebulun [Living together], and the princes of Naphtali [My wrestling].
Ibi Beniamin adolescentulus, in mentis excessu. Principes Iuda, duces eorum: principes Zabulon, principes Nephthali.
28 Your God has enjoined your strength. Strengthen, God, that which you have done for us.
29 Because of your temple at Jerusalem [City of peace], kings shall bring presents to you.
A templo tuo in Ierusalem, tibi offerent reges munera.
30 Rebuke the wild animal of the reeds, the multitude of the bulls, with the calves of the peoples. Being humbled, may it bring bars of silver. Scatter the nations that delight in war.
31 Princes shall come out of Egypt [Abode of slavery]. Ethiopia shall hurry to stretch out her hands to God.
32 Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth! Sing zahmar ·musical praise· to Adonai! (Selah) ·contemplation with musical interlude·.
Regna terræ, cantate Deo: psallite Domino: psallite Deo.
33 To him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which are of old; behold, he utters his voice, a mighty voice.
qui ascendit super cælum cæli, ad Orientem. Ecce dabit voci suæ vocem virtutis,
34 Ascribe strength to God! His excellency is over Israel [God prevails], his strength is in the skies.
35 You are awesome, God, in your sanctuaries. The God of Israel [God prevails] gives strength and power to his people. Praise be to God!
Mirabilis Deus in sanctis suis, Deus Israel ipse dabit virtutem, et fortitudinem plebi suæ, benedictus Deus.
