< Psalms 41 >

1 Blessed is he who considers the poor. Adonai will deliver him in the day of evil.
Unto the end, a psalm for David himself. Blessed is he that understandeth concerning the needy and the poor: the Lord will deliver him in the evil day.
2 Adonai will preserve him, and keep him alive. He shall be blessed on the earth, and he will not surrender him to the will of his enemies.
The Lord preserve him and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth: and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.
3 Adonai will sustain him on his sickbed, and restore him from his bed of illness.
The Lord help him on his bed of sorrow: thou hast turned all his couch in his sickness.
4 I said, “Adonai, have mercy on me! Heal me, for I have sinned ·deviated (from the standard goal)· against you.”
I said: O Lord, be thou merciful to me: heal my soul, for I have sinned against thee.
5 My enemies speak evil against me: “When will he die, and his name perish?”
My enemies have spoken evils against me: when shall he die and his name perish?
6 If he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood. His heart gathers vain striving of iniquity to itself. When he goes abroad, he tells it.
And if he came in to see me, he spoke vain things: his heart gathered together iniquity to itself. He went out and spoke to the same purpose.
7 All who hate me whisper together against me. They imagine the worst for me.
All my enemies whispered together against me: they devised evils to me.
8 “An evil disease,” they say, “has afflicted him. Now that he lies he shall rise up no more.”
They determined against me an unjust word: shall he that sleepeth rise again no more?
9 Yes, my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, who ate bread with me, has lifted up his heel against me.
For even the man of peace, in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, hath greatly supplanted me.
10 But you, Adonai, have mercy on me, and raise me up, that I may repay them.
But thou, O Lord, have mercy on me, and raise me up again: and I will requite them.
11 By this I know that you delight in me, because my enemy does not triumph over me.
By this I know, that thou hast had a good will for me: because my enemy shall not rejoice over me.
12 As for me, you uphold me in my integrity, and set me in your presence forever.
But thou hast upheld me by reason of my innocence: and hast established me in thy sight for ever.
13 Blessed be Adonai, the God of Israel [God prevails], from everlasting and to everlasting! Amen v'Amen ·So be it and So be it·.
Blessed by the Lord the God of Israel from eternity to eternity. So be it. So be it.
