< Psalms 135 >
1 Halleluyah ·praise Yah·! Praise Adonai’s name! Praise him, you servants of Adonai,
Hallelujah. Praise the name of the Lord. Praise the Lord, you his servants,
2 you who stand in Adonai’s house, in the courts of our God’s house.
who stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God.
3 Halleluyah ·praise Yah·, for Adonai is good. Sing zahmar ·musical praise· to his name, for that is pleasant.
Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good: Sing praise to his name it is pleasant.
4 For Yah has chosen Jacob [Supplanter] for himself; Israel [God prevails] for his own segulah ·special treasure·.
The Lord for himself chose Jacob, Israel as his own special treasure.
5 For I know that Adonai is great, that our Lord is above all deities.
For I know that the Lord is great, that our Lord is above all gods.
6 Whatever Adonai pleased, that he has done, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps;
All that he wills he does in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and in all the abysses.
7 who causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth; who makes lightnings with the rain; who brings the wind out of his treasuries;
Clouds he brings up from the ends of the earth, lightnings he makes for the rain, wind he brings out of his storehouses.
8 Who struck the firstborn of Egypt [Abode of slavery], both of man and animal;
The firstborn of Egypt he struck, both humans and animals.
9 Who sent signs and wonders into the middle of you, Egypt [Abode of slavery], on Pharaoh, and on all his servants;
Signs and wonders he sent into your midst, O Egypt, upon Pharaoh and all his servants.
10 who struck many nations, and killed mighty kings,
Many nations he struck, mighty kings he slew
11 Sihon king of the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers], Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan [Humbled],
Sihon, king of the Amorites, Og, king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan.
12 and gave their land for a heritage, a heritage to Israel [God prevails], his people.
He gave their land for possession, possession to Israel his people.
13 Your name, Adonai, endures forever; your renown, Adonai, throughout all generations.
Your name, O Lord, is forever; your memorial world without end.
14 For Adonai will judge his people, and have compassion on his servants.
For the Lord secures right for his people, and takes pity upon his servants.
15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
The idols of heathen are silver made by human hands.
16 They have mouths, but they can’t speak. They have eyes, but they can’t see.
They have mouths, but cannot speak: they have eyes, but cannot see.
17 They have ears, but they can’t hear; neither is there any breath in their mouths.
They have ears, but cannot hear: there is no breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them will be like them; yes, everyone who trusts in them.
Their makers become like them, so do all who trust in them.
19 House of Israel [God prevails], praise Adonai! House of Aaron [Light-bringer], praise Adonai!
House of Israel, praise the Lord: house of Araon, praise the Lord.
20 House of Levi [United with], praise Adonai! You who fear Adonai, praise Adonai!
House of Levi, praise the Lord: you who fear the Lord, praise the Lord.
21 Blessed be Adonai from Zion [Mountain ridge, Marking], Who dwells at Jerusalem [City of peace]. Halleluyah ·praise Yah·!
Blest be the Lord out of Zion, who lives in Jerusalem. Hallelujah.
