< Proverbs 14 >
1 Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish one tears it down with her own hands.
Ọlọ́gbọ́n obìnrin kọ́ ilé e rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n aṣiwèrè obìnrin fi ọwọ́ ara rẹ̀ fà á lulẹ̀.
2 He who walks in his uprightness fears Adonai, but he who is perverse in his ways despises him.
Ẹni tí ń rìn déédé bẹ̀rù Olúwa, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ọ̀nà rẹ̀ kò tọ́ kẹ́gàn Olúwa.
3 The fool’s talk brings a rod to his back, but the lips of the wise protect them.
Ọ̀rọ̀ aṣiwèrè a máa ṣokùnfà pàṣán fún ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n ọ̀rọ̀ ètè ọlọ́gbọ́n a máa dáàbò bò ó.
4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean, but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
Níbi tí kò sí ẹran, ibùjẹ ẹran a máa mọ́ tónítóní, ṣùgbọ́n, nípa agbára akọ màlúù ni ọ̀pọ̀ ìkórè ti ń wá.
5 A truthful witness will not lie, but a false witness pours out lies.
Ẹlẹ́rìí tí ń ṣọ òtítọ́ kì í tan ni ṣùgbọ́n ẹlẹ́rìí èké a máa tú irọ́ jáde.
6 A scoffer seeks wisdom, and does not find it, but knowledge comes easily to a discerning person.
Ẹlẹ́gàn ń wá ọgbọ́n kò sì rí rárá, ṣùgbọ́n ìmọ̀ máa ń wà fún olóye.
7 Stay away from a foolish man, for you won’t find knowledge on his lips.
Má ṣe súnmọ́ aláìgbọ́n ènìyàn, nítorí ìwọ kì yóò rí ìmọ̀ ní ètè rẹ̀.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to think about his way, but the folly of fools is deceit.
Ọgbọ́n olóye ni láti ronú jinlẹ̀ nípa ọ̀nà wọn ṣùgbọ́n ìwà òmùgọ̀ aṣiwèrè ni ìtànjẹ.
9 Fools mock at making atonement for faults incurring guilt, but among the upright there is good will.
Aláìgbọ́n ń dẹ́ṣẹ̀ nígbà tí ó yẹ kí ó ṣe àtúnṣe ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n láàrín àwọn olódodo ni a ti rí ojúrere.
10 The heart knows its own bitterness and joy; he will not share these with a stranger.
Ọkàn kọ̀ọ̀kan ló mọ ẹ̀dùn ọkàn tirẹ̀ kò sì ṣí ẹnìkan tó le è bá ọkàn mìíràn pín ayọ̀ rẹ̀.
11 The house of the wicked will be overthrown, but the tent of the upright will flourish.
A ó pa ilé ènìyàn búburú run, ṣùgbọ́n àgọ́ olódodo yóò máa gbèrú sí i.
12 There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
Ọ̀nà kan wà tí ó dàbí i pé ó dára lójú ènìyàn, ṣùgbọ́n ní ìgbẹ̀yìn gbẹ́yín, a máa jásí ikú.
13 Even in laughter the heart may be sorrowful, and mirth may end in heaviness.
Kódà nígbà tí a ń rẹ́rìn-ín, ọkàn le è máa kérora; ayọ̀ sì le è yọrí sí ìbànújẹ́.
14 The unfaithful will be repaid for his own ways; likewise a good man will be rewarded for his ways.
A ó san án lẹ́kùnrẹ́rẹ́ fún aláìgbàgbọ́ gẹ́gẹ́ bí ọ̀nà rẹ̀, ènìyàn rere yóò sì gba èrè fún tirẹ̀.
15 A simple man trusts everything, but the prudent man carefully considers his ways.
Òpè ènìyàn gba ohun gbogbo gbọ́ ṣùgbọ́n olóye ènìyàn ronú lórí àwọn ìgbésẹ̀ rẹ̀.
16 A wise man fears, and shuns evil, but the fool is hot headed and reckless.
Ọlọ́gbọ́n bẹ̀rù Ọlọ́run ó sì kórìíra ibi ṣùgbọ́n aláìgbọ́n jẹ́ alágídí àti aláìṣọ́ra.
17 He who is quick to become angry will commit folly, and a crafty man is hated.
Ẹni tí ó máa ń tètè bínú máa ń hùwà aṣiwèrè, a sì kórìíra eléte ènìyàn.
18 The simple inherit folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
Òpè jogún ìwà òmùgọ̀ ṣùgbọ́n a dé ọlọ́gbọ́n ní adé ìmọ̀.
19 The evil bow down before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the upright.
Ènìyàn ìkà yóò tẹríba níwájú àwọn ènìyàn rere àti ènìyàn búburú níbi ìlẹ̀kùn àwọn olódodo.
20 The poor person is shunned even by his own neighbor, but the rich person has many 'ahav ·affectionate lovers, friends·.
Kódà àwọn aládùúgbò tálákà kò fẹ́ràn rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n, ọlọ́rọ̀ ní ọ̀rẹ́ púpọ̀.
21 He who despises his neighbor sins ·errs (the standard goal)·, but blessed is he who has mercy on the poor.
Ẹni tí ó kẹ́gàn aládùúgbò o rẹ̀ ti dẹ́ṣẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ìbùkún ni fún ẹni tí ó ṣàánú àwọn aláìní.
22 Don’t they go astray who plot evil? But chesed ·loving-kindness· and faithfulness belong to those who plan good.
Ǹjẹ́ àwọn tí ń pète ibi kì í ṣìnà bí? Ṣùgbọ́n àwọn tí ń gbèrò ohun rere ń rí ìfẹ́ àti òtítọ́.
23 In all hard work there is profit, but the talk of the lips leads only to poverty.
Gbogbo iṣẹ́ àṣekára ló máa ń mú èrè wá, ṣùgbọ́n ẹjọ́ rírò lásán máa ń ta ni lósì ni.
24 The crown of the wise is their riches, but the folly of fools crowns them with folly.
Ọrọ̀ ọlọ́gbọ́n ènìyàn ni adé orí wọn ṣùgbọ́n ìwà aláìgbọ́n ń mú ìwà òmùgọ̀ wá.
25 A truthful witness saves souls, but a false witness is deceitful.
Ẹlẹ́rìí tí ó ṣọ òtítọ́ gba ẹ̀mí là ṣùgbọ́n ẹlẹ́rìí èké jẹ́ ẹlẹ́tàn.
26 In the fear of Adonai is a secure fortress, and he will be a refuge for his children.
Nínú ìbẹ̀rù Olúwa ni ìgbẹ́kẹ̀lé tí ó lágbára, yóò sì tún jẹ́ ibi ààbò fún àwọn ọmọ rẹ̀.
27 The fear of Adonai is a fountain of life, turning people from the snares of death.
Ìbẹ̀rù Olúwa jẹ́ orísun ìyè, tí ń yí ènìyàn padà kúrò nínú ìkẹ́kùn ikú.
28 In the multitude of people is the king’s glory, but in the lack of people is the destruction of the prince.
Ènìyàn púpọ̀ ní ìlú jẹ́ ògo ọba, ṣùgbọ́n láìsí ìjòyè, ọba á parun.
29 He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a quick temper displays folly.
Onísùúrù ènìyàn ní òye tí ó pọ̀, ṣùgbọ́n onínú-fùfù ènìyàn máa ń fi ìwà aṣiwèrè hàn.
30 The life of the body is a heart at peace, but envy rots the bones.
Ọkàn tí ó lálàáfíà fi ìyè mú kí ọjọ́ ayé gùn fún ara, ṣùgbọ́n ìlara mú kí egungun jẹrà.
31 He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who honors him shows mercy to the needy.
Ẹni tí ó fi ìyà jẹ aláìní ń fi ìkórìíra hàn ṣùgbọ́n ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó ṣoore fún aláìní bu ọlá fún Ọlọ́run.
32 The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but in death, the upright has a refuge.
Nígbà tí ìyọnu bá dé, a fa àwọn búburú lulẹ̀, kódà nínú ikú àwọn olódodo ni ààbò.
33 Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding, and is even made known in the inward part of fools.
Ọgbọ́n wà nínú ọkàn olóye kódà láàrín àwọn aláìlóye, ó jẹ́ kí wọn mọ òun.
34 Righteousness exalts a nation, but habitual sin ·missing the mark· is a chesed ·disgrace· to any people.
Òdodo a máa gbé orílẹ̀-èdè lékè, ṣùgbọ́n ìtìjú ni ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ jẹ́ fún àwùjọ káwùjọ.
35 The king’s favor is toward a servant who deals wisely, but his wrath is toward one who causes shame.
Ọba a máa ní inú dídùn sí ìránṣẹ́ tí ó gbọ́n ṣùgbọ́n ìbínú rẹ̀ wá sórí ìránṣẹ́ adójútini.
