1 Whoever 'ahav ·affectionately loves· correction loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.
At elske Tugt er at elske Kundskab, at hade Revselse er dumt.
2 A good man shall obtain favor from Adonai, but he will condemn as guilty a man of wicked devices.
Den gode vinder Yndest hos HERREN, den rænkefulde dømmer han skyldig.
3 A man shall not be established by ethical wickedness, but the root of the upright shall not be moved.
Ingen staar fast ved Gudløshed, men retfærdiges Rod skal aldrig rokkes.
4 A worthy woman is the crown of her husband, but a disgraceful wife is as rottenness in his bones.
En duelig Kvinde er sin Ægtemands Krone, en daarlig er som Edder i hans Ben.
5 The thoughts of the upright are mishpat ·just·, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.
Retfærdiges Tanker er Ret, gudløses Opspind er Svig.
6 The words of the wicked are about lying in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them.
Gudløses Ord er paa Lur efter Blod, retsindiges Mund skal bringe dem Frelse.
7 The wicked are overthrown, and are no more, but the house of the upright shall stand.
Gudløse styrtes og er ikke mer, retfærdiges Hus staar fast.
8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom, but he who has a linnened mind shall be despised.
For sin Klogskab prises en Mand, til Spot bliver den, hvis Vid er vrangt.
9 Better is he who is lightly esteemed, and has a servant, than he who honors himself, and lacks bread.
Hellere overses, naar man holder Træl, end optræde stort, naar man mangler Brød.
10 A upright man respects the life of his animal, but the tender rachamim ·merciful loves· of the wicked is cruel.
Den retfærdige føler med sit Kvæg, gudløses Hjerte er grumt.
11 He who tills his land shall have plenty of bread, but he who chases fantasies is void of understanding.
Den mættes med Brød, som dyrker sin Jord, uden Vid er den, der jager efter Tomhed.
12 The wicked desires the plunder of evil men, but the root of the upright flourishes.
De ondes Fæstning jævnes med Jorden, de retfærdiges Rod holder Stand.
13 An evil man is trapped by rebellious breach of relationship of lips, but the upright shall come out of trouble.
I Læbernes Brøde hildes den onde, den retfærdige undslipper Nøden.
14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth. The work of a man’s hands shall be rewarded to him.
Af sin Munds Frugt mættes en Mand med godt, et Menneske faar, som hans Hænder har øvet.
15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who is wise sh'ma ·hears obeys· counsel.
Daarens Færd behager ham selv, den vise hører paa Raad.
16 A fool shows his annoyance the same day, but one who overlooks an insult is prudent.
En Daare giver straks sin Krænkelse Luft, den kloge spottes og lader som intet.
17 He who is truthful testifies honestly, but a false witness lies.
Den sanddru fremfører, hvad der er ret, det falske Vidne kommer med Svig.
18 There is one who speaks rashly like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise heals.
Mangens Snak er som Sværdhug, de vises Tunge læger.
19 Truth’s lips will be established forever, but a lying tongue is only momentary.
Sanddru Læbe bestaar for evigt, Løgnetunge et Øjeblik.
20 Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil, but joy comes to the promoters of peace.
De, som smeder ondt, har Svig i Hjertet; de, der stifter Fred, har Glæde.
21 No vain striving of iniquity shall happen to the upright, but the wicked shall be filled with evil.
Den retfærdige times der intet ondt, gudløse oplever Vanheld paa Vanheld.
22 Lying lips are an abomination to Adonai, but those who do the truth are his delight.
Løgnelæber er HERREN en Gru, de ærlige har hans Velbehag.
23 A prudent man keeps his knowledge, but the hearts of fools proclaim foolishness.
Den kloge dølger sin Kundskab, Taabers Hjerte udraaber Daarskab.
24 The hands of the diligent ones shall rule, but laziness ends in slave labor.
De flittiges Haand skal raade, den lade tvinges til Hoveriarbejde.
25 Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a kind word makes it glad.
Hjertesorg bøjer til Jorden, et venligt Ord gør glad.
26 A upright person is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.
Den retfærdige vælger sin Græsgang, gudløses Vej vildleder dem selv.
27 The slothful man does not roast his game, but the possessions of diligent men are prized.
Ladhed opskræmmer intet Vildt, men kosteligt Gods faar den flittige tildelt.
28 In the way of righteousness is life; in its path there is no death.
Paa Retfærds Sti er der Liv, til Døden fører den onde Vej.
