< Genesis 10 >
1 Now this is the history of the generations of the sons of Noah [Rest] and of Shem [Name], Ham [Hot, Intensity, Passion], and Japheth [Enlargement, Spreading wide]. Sons were born to them after the flood.
Now these [are] the generations of the sons of Noe, Sem, Cham, Japheth; and sons were born to them after the flood.
2 The sons of Japheth [Enlargement, Spreading wide] were: Gomer, Magog [From roof-top], Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
The sons of Japheth, Gamer, and Magog, and Madoi, and Jovan, and Elisa, and Thobel, and Mosoch, and Thiras.
3 The sons of Gomer were: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
And the sons of Gamer, Aschanaz, and Riphath, and Thorgama.
4 The sons of Javan were: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
And the sons of Jovan, Elisa, and Tharseis, Cetians, Rhodians.
5 Of these were the islands of the nations divided in their lands, everyone after his language, after their families, in their nations.
From these were the islands of the Gentiles divided in their land, each according to his tongue, in their tribes and in their nations.
6 The sons of Ham [Hot, Intensity, Passion] were: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan [Humbled].
And the sons of Cham, Chus, and Mesrain, Phud, and Chanaan.
7 The sons of Cush were: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah were: Sheba and Dedan.
And the sons of Chus, Saba, and Evila, and Sabatha, and Rhegma, and Sabathaca. And the sons of Rhegma, Saba, and Dadan.
8 Cush became the father of Nimrod [Let us rebel]. He began to be a mighty one in the earth.
And Chus begot Nebrod: he began to be a giant upon the earth.
9 He was a mighty hunter before Adonai. Therefore it is said, “like Nimrod [Let us rebel], a mighty hunter before Adonai”.
He was a giant hunter before the Lord God; therefore they say, As Nebrod the giant hunter before the Lord.
10 The beginning of his kingdom was Babel [Confusion], Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
And the beginning of his kingdom was Babylon, and Orech, and Archad, and Chalanne, in the land of Senaar.
11 Out of that land he went into Assyria [Level plain], and built Nineveh [Offspring’s Habitation], Rehoboth Ir, Calah,
Out of that land came Assur, and built Ninevi, and the city Rhooboth, and Chalach,
12 and Resen between Nineveh [Offspring’s Habitation] and the great city Calah.
and Dase between Ninevi and Chalach: this is the great city.
13 Mizraim became the father of Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim,
And Mesrain begot the Ludiim, and the Nephthalim, and the Enemetiim, and the Labiim,
14 Pathrusim, Casluhim (from whom the Philistines [To roll in dust (As an insult)] descended from), and Caphtorim.
and the Patrosoniim, and the Chasmoniim (whence came forth Phylistiim) and the Gaphthoriim.
15 Canaan [Humbled] became the father of Sidon (his firstborn), Heth [Trembling fear],
And Chanaan begot Sidon his firstborn, and the Chettite,
16 the Jebusites [Descendants of Thresher], the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers], the Girgashites [Descendants of Who arrives from pilgrimage],
and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite,
17 the Hivites [Wicked], the Arkites, the Sinites,
and the Evite, and the Arukite, and the Asennite,
18 the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the families of the Canaanites [Descendants of Humbled] were spread abroad.
and the Aradian, and the Samarean, and the Amathite; and after this the tribes of the Chananites were dispersed.
19 The border of the Canaanites [Descendants of Humbled] was from Sidon— as you go toward Gerar— to Gaza— as you go toward Sodom [Burning], Gomorrah [Rebellious people, Tyrants], Admah, and Zeboiim— to Lasha.
And the boundaries of the Chananites were from Sidon till one comes to Gerara and Gaza, till one comes to Sodom and Gomorrha, Adama and Seboim, as far as Dasa.
20 These are the sons of Ham [Hot, Intensity, Passion], after their families, according to their languages, in their lands and their nations.
There [were] the sons of Cham in their tribes according to their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.
21 Children were also born to Shem [Name], the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth [Enlargement, Spreading wide].
And to Sem himself also were children born, the father of all the sons of Heber, the brother of Japheth the elder.
22 The sons of Shem [Name] were: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram [Elevated].
Sons of Sem, Elam, and Assur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram, and Cainan.
23 The sons of Aram [Elevated] were: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
And sons of Aram, Uz, and Ul, and Gater, and Mosoch.
24 Arpachshad became the father of Shelah. Shelah became the father of Eber.
And Arphaxad begot Cainan, and Cainan begot Sala. And Sala begot Heber.
25 To Eber were born two sons. The name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided. His brother’s name was Joktan.
And to Heber were born two sons, the name of the one, Phaleg, because in his days the earth was divided, and the name of his brother Jektan.
26 Joktan became the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
And Jektan begot Elmodad, and Saleth, and Sarmoth, and Jarach,
27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
and Odorrha, and Aibel, and Decla,
Eval, and Abimael, and Saba,
29 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan.
and Uphir, and Evila, and Jobab, all these were the sons of Jektan.
30 Their dwelling extended from Mesha, as you go toward Sephar, the mountain of the east.
And their dwelling was from Masse, till one comes to Saphera, a mountain of the east.
31 These are the sons of Shem [Name], by their families, according to their languages, lands, and nations.
These were the sons of Sem in their tribes, according to their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.
32 These are the families of the sons of Noah [Rest], by their generations, according to their nations. The nations divided from these in the earth after the flood.
These are the tribes of the sons of Noe, according to their generations, according to their nations: of them were the islands of the Gentiles scattered over the earth after the flood.
