Exodus 17
1 All the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails] traveled from the wilderness of Cin [Clay], by their journeys, according to Adonai’s order, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.
Ainsi toute la multitude des enfants d’Israël étant partie du désert de Sin, et ayant fait des séjours, selon les paroles du Seigneur, ils campèrent à Raphidim, où il n’y avait pas d’eau à boire pour le peuple,
2 Therefore the people quarreled with Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Adonai?”
Qui querellant Moïse, dit: Donne-nous de l’eau, afin que nous buvions. Moïse leur répondit: Pourquoi me querellez-vous? pourquoi tentez-vous le Seigneur?
3 The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt [Abode of slavery], to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”
Là donc le peuple eut soif à cause de la pénurie d’eau, et il murmura contre Moïse, disant: Pourquoi nous as-tu fait sortir de l’Egypte, pour nous faire mourir de soif, nous, nos enfants et nos bêtes?
4 Moses [Drawn out] cried to Adonai, saying, “What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
Or Moïse cria au Seigneur, disant: Que ferai-je à ce peuple-ci? encore un peu, et il me lapidera.
5 Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel [God prevails] with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.
Et le Seigneur répondit à Moïse: Marche devant le peuple, et prends avec toi des anciens d’Israël; et la verge dont tu as frappé le fleuve, prends-la en ta main, et va.
6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb [Desert]. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Moses [Drawn out] did so in the sight of the elders of Israel [God prevails].
Voilà que moi, je me tiendrai là devant toi sur la pierre d’Horeb; et tu frapperas la pierre, et il en sortira de l’eau, afin que le peuple boive. Moïse fit ainsi devant les anciens d’Israël:
7 He called the name of the place Massah [Testing], and Meribah [Quarreling], because the children of Israel [God prevails] quarreled, and because they tested Adonai, saying, “Is Adonai among us, or not?”
Et il appela ce lieu du nom de Tentation, à cause de la querelle des enfants d’Israël, et parce qu’ils avaient tenté le Seigneur, disant: Le Seigneur est-il parmi nous, ou non?
8 Then Amalek [Man who licks up] came and fought with Israel [God prevails] in Rephidim.
Or Amalec vint, et il combattait contre Israël à Raphidim.
9 Moses [Drawn out] said to Joshua [Yah Salvation], “Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek [Man who licks up]. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.”
Et Moïse dit à Josué: Choisis des hommes, et étant sorti, combats contre Amalec; demain moi, je me tiendrai au sommet de la colline, ayant la verge de Dieu en ma main.
10 So Joshua [Yah Salvation] did as Moses [Drawn out] had told him, and fought with Amalek [Man who licks up]; and Moses [Drawn out], Aaron [Light-bringer], and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
Josué fit comme avait dit Moïse, et il combattait contre Amalec: mais Moïse et Aaron et Hur montèrent sur le sommet de la colline.
11 When Moses [Drawn out] held up his hand, Israel [God prevails] prevailed. When he let down his hand, Amalek [Man who licks up] prevailed.
Et lorsque Moïse élevait les mains, Israël était victorieux; mais s’il les abaissait un peu, Amalec l’emportait.
12 But Moses [Drawn out]’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron [Light-bringer] and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.
Or, les mains de Moïse étaient appesanties; prenant donc une pierre, ils la mirent sous lui; il s’y assit; mais Aaron et Hur soutenaient ses mains des deux côtés. Et il arriva que ses mains ne se lassèrent pas jusqu’au coucher du soleil.
13 Joshua [Yah Salvation] defeated Amalek [Man who licks up] and his people with the edge of the sword.
Et Josué mit en fuite Amalec et son peuple, par le tranchant du glaive.
14 Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua [Yah Salvation]: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek [Man who licks up] from under the sky.”
Or le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Écris ceci pour souvenir dans le livre, et fais-le entendre à Josué; car j’effacerai la mémoire d’Amalec sous le ciel.
15 Moses [Drawn out] built an altar, and called its name Adonai our Banner.
Et Moïse bâtit un autel et rappela du nom de: Le Seigneur est mon exaltation, disant:
16 He said, “Yah has sworn: ‘Adonai will have war with Amalek [Man who licks up] from generation to generation.’”
La main du trône du Seigneur et la guerre du Seigneur seront contre Amalec de génération en génération.
