Exodus 17
1 All the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails] traveled from the wilderness of Cin [Clay], by their journeys, according to Adonai’s order, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.
Sva izraelska zajednica po Jahvinoj zapovijedi krene dalje iz pustinje Sina. Utabore se kod Refidima. Tu nije bilo vode da narod pije.
2 Therefore the people quarreled with Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Adonai?”
Zato narod zapodjene prepirku s Mojsijem. Vikali su: “Daj nam vode da pijemo!” A Mojsije im odgovori: “Zašto se sa mnom prepirete? Zašto kušate Jahvu?”
3 The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt [Abode of slavery], to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”
Ali je narod žeđao za vodom, pa je mrmljao na Mojsija i govorio: “Zašto si nas iz Egipta izveo? Zar da nas žeđom pomoriš, nas, našu djecu i našu stoku?”
4 Moses [Drawn out] cried to Adonai, saying, “What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
“Što ću s ovim narodom!” - zazivao je Mojsije Jahvu. “Još malo pa će me kamenovati.”
5 Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel [God prevails] with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.
“Istupi pred narod!” - rekne Jahve Mojsiju. “Uzmi sa sobom nekoliko izraelskih starješina; uzmi u ruku štap kojim si udario Rijeku i pođi.
6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb [Desert]. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Moses [Drawn out] did so in the sight of the elders of Israel [God prevails].
A ja ću stajati pred tobom ondje, na pećini na Horebu. Udari po pećini: iz nje će poteći voda, pa neka se narod napije.” Mojsije učini tako naočigled izraelskih starješina.
7 He called the name of the place Massah [Testing], and Meribah [Quarreling], because the children of Israel [God prevails] quarreled, and because they tested Adonai, saying, “Is Adonai among us, or not?”
Mjesto prozovu Masa i Meriba, zbog toga što su se Izraelci prepirali i kušali Jahvu govoreći: “Je li Jahve među nama ili nije?”
8 Then Amalek [Man who licks up] came and fought with Israel [God prevails] in Rephidim.
Uto dođu Amalečani i zarate s Izraelcima kod Refidima.
9 Moses [Drawn out] said to Joshua [Yah Salvation], “Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek [Man who licks up]. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.”
A Mojsije reče Jošui: “Odaberi momčad pa pođi i zapodjeni borbu s Amalečanima. Ja ću sutra stati na vrh brda, sa štapom Božjim u ruci.”
10 So Joshua [Yah Salvation] did as Moses [Drawn out] had told him, and fought with Amalek [Man who licks up]; and Moses [Drawn out], Aaron [Light-bringer], and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
Jošua učini kako mu je Mojsije rekao te zađe u borbu s Amalečanima, a Mojsije, Aron i Hur uzađoše na vrh brda.
11 When Moses [Drawn out] held up his hand, Israel [God prevails] prevailed. When he let down his hand, Amalek [Man who licks up] prevailed.
I dok bi Mojsije držao ruke uzdignute, Izraelci bi nadjačavali; a kad bi ruke spustio, nadjačavali bi Amalečani.
12 But Moses [Drawn out]’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron [Light-bringer] and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.
Ali Mojsiju ruke napokon klonu. Zato uzeše kamen, staviše ga poda nj i on sjede, dok mu Aron i Hur, jedan s jedne, a drugi s druge strane, držahu ruke, tako da mu izdržaše do sunčanog zalaska.
13 Joshua [Yah Salvation] defeated Amalek [Man who licks up] and his people with the edge of the sword.
I Jošua oštricom mača svlada Amaleka i njegov narod.
14 Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua [Yah Salvation]: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek [Man who licks up] from under the sky.”
Onda Jahve reče Mojsiju: “Zapiši ovo u knjigu na sjećanje i utuvi u uši Jošui da ću ja spomen na Amalečane sasvim izbrisati pod nebom!”
15 Moses [Drawn out] built an altar, and called its name Adonai our Banner.
Podiže zatim Mojsije žrtvenik i nazva ga: Jahve mi je stijeg!
16 He said, “Yah has sworn: ‘Adonai will have war with Amalek [Man who licks up] from generation to generation.’”
“Jer”, reče, “Jahvin stijeg u ruku! Jahvin je boj protiv Amalečana od naraštaja do naraštaja!”
