< Deuteronomy 27 >

1 Moses [Drawn out] and the elders of Israel [God prevails] enjoined the people, saying, “Keep all the mitzvot ·instructions· and statutes which I enjoin you today.
And Moses with the ancients of Israel commanded the people, saying: Keep every commandment that I command you this day.
2 It shall be on the day when you shall pass over the Jordan [Descender] to the land which Adonai your God gives you, that you shall set yourself up great stones, and coat them with plaster.
And when you are passed over the Jordan into the land which the Lord thy God will give thee, thou shalt set up great stones, and shalt plaster them over with plaster,
3 You shall write on them all the words of this Torah ·Teaching·, when you have passed over; that you may go in to the land which Adonai your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Adonai, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
That thou mayst write on them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over the Jordan: that thou mayst enter into the land which the Lord thy God will give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, as he swore to thy fathers.
4 It shall be, when you have crossed over the Jordan [Descender], that you shall set up these stones, which I enjoin you today, on Mount Ebal, and you shall coat them with plaster.
Therefore when you are passed over the Jordan, set up the stones which I command you this day, in mount Hebal, and thou shalt plaster them with plaster:
5 There you shall build an altar to Adonai your God, an altar of stones. You shall not use any iron tool on them.
And thou shalt build there an altar to the Lord thy God, of stones which iron hath not touched,
6 You shall build Adonai your God’s altar of uncut stones. You shall offer burnt offerings on it to Adonai your God.
And of stones not fashioned nor polished: and thou shalt offer upon it holocausts to the Lord thy God:
7 You shall sacrifice peace offerings, and shall eat there. You shall rejoice before Adonai your God.
And shalt immolate peace victims, and eat there, and feast before the Lord thy God.
8 You shall write on the stones all the words of this Torah ·Teaching· very plainly.”
And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law plainly and clearly,
9 Moses [Drawn out] and the priests the Levites [Descendants of United with] spoke to all Israel [God prevails], saying, “Be silent, and sh'ma ·hear obey·, Israel [God prevails]! Today you have become the people of Adonai your God.
And Moses and the priests of the race of Levi said to all Israel: Attend, and hear, O Israel: This day thou art made the people of the Lord thy God.
10 You shall therefore sh'ma ·hear obey· Adonai your God’s voice, and do his instructions and his statutes, which I enjoin you today.”
Thou shalt hear his voice, and do the commandments and justices which I command thee.
11 Moses [Drawn out] enjoined the people the same day, saying,
And Moses commanded the people in that day, saying:
12 “These shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people, when you have crossed over the Jordan [Descender]: Simeon [Hearing], Levi [United with], Judah [Praised], Issachar [Hire, Reward], Joseph [May he add], and Benjamin [Son of right hand, Son of south].
These shall stand upon mount Garizim to bless the people, when you are passed the Jordan: Simeon, Levi, Juda, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.
13 These shall stand on Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben [See, a son!], Gad [Good fortune], Asher [Happy], Zebulun [Living together], Dan [He judged], and Naphtali [My wrestling].
And over against them shall stand on mount Hebal to curse: Ruben, Gad, and Aser, and Zabulon, Dan, and Nephtali.
14 With a loud voice, the Levites [Descendants of United with] shall say to all the men of Israel [God prevails],
And the Levites shall pronounce, and say to all the men of Israel with a loud voice:
15 ‘Cursed is the man who makes an engraved or molten image, an abomination to Adonai, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ All the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
Cursed be the man that maketh a graven and molten thing, the abomination of the Lord, the work of the hands of artificers, and shall put it in a secret place: and all the people shall answer and say: Amen.
16 ‘Cursed is he who dishonors his father or his mother.’ All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
Cursed be he that honoureth not his father and mother: and all the people shall say: Amen.
17 ‘Cursed is he who removes his neighbor’s landmark.’ All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
Cursed be he that removeth his neighbour’s landmarks: and all the people shall say: Amen.
18 ‘Cursed is he who leads the blind astray, intoxicated, unintentional sin ·error· on the road.’ All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
Cursed be he that maketh the blind to wander out of his way: and all the people shall say: Amen.
19 ‘Cursed is he who withholds mishpat ·justice· from the foreigner, orphan, and widow.’ All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
Cursed be he that perverteth the judgment of the stranger, of the fatherless and the widow: and all the people shall say: Amen.
20 ‘Cursed is he who lies with his father’s wife, because he dishonors his father’s bed.’ ‘All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
Cursed be he that lieth with his father’s wife, and uncovereth his bed: and all the people shall say: Amen.
21 ‘Cursed is he who lies with any kind of animal.’ ‘All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
Cursed be he that lieth with any beast: and all the people shall say: Amen.
22 ‘Cursed is he who lies with his sister, his father’s daughter or his mother’s daughter.’ ‘All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or of his mother: and all the people shall say: Amen.
23 ‘Cursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law.’ ‘All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
Cursed be he that lieth with his mother in law: and all the people shall say: Amen.
24 ‘Cursed is he who secretly kills his neighbor.’ ‘All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
Cursed be he that secretly killeth his neighbour: and all the people shall say: Amen.
25 ‘Cursed is he who takes a bribe to kill an innocent person.’ All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
Cursed be he that taketh gifts, to slay an innocent person: and all the people shall say: Amen.
26 ‘Cursed is he who does not uphold the words of this Torah ·Teaching· by doing them.’ ‘All the people shall say, “Amen ·So be it·.’”
Cursed be he that abideth not in the words of this law, and fulfilleth them not in work: and all the people shall say: Amen.
