Titus 1
1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Christ Jesus, for the faith of God's elect, and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness,
Pablo, un esclavo de Dios y apóstol de Jesucristo, según [la] fe de los escogidos de Dios y [el] conocimiento de la verdad en la piedad,
2 in hope of everlasting life, which God, who cannot lie, promised from the most ancient times, (aiōnios g166)
con respecto a [la] esperanza de vida eterna, la cual Dios, Quien no miente, prometió antes de [los ]tiempos eternos. (aiōnios g166)
3 but in his own seasons manifested his word through the preaching with which I was intrusted by the commandment of God our Saviour:
Pero a su debido tiempo reveló su Palabra por [la ]predicación la cual me fue encomendada por orden de Dios nuestro Salvador.
4 to Titus, true child after the common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Saviour.
A Tito, genuino hijo según [la ]fe común. Gracia y paz de Dios Padre y de Cristo Jesús, nuestro Salvador.
5 For this cause I left thee behind in Crete, that thou shouldst set in order the things that are wanting, and appoint elders in every city, as I directed thee;
Por esta razón te dejé en Creta, para que te encargaras de poner en orden las cosas desordenadas, y designaras ancianos en cada ciudad, como yo me propuse.
6 if any one is without reproach, the husband of one wife, having believing children, that are not accused of dissoluteness, or unruly.
El anciano debe ser irreprochable, esposo de una sola esposa, que tenga hijos fieles, no con acusación de relajamiento moral o rebeldes.
7 For a bishop must be without reproach, as God's steward; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, not a striker, not greedy of base gain,
Porque es necesario que el supervisor sea irreprochable como administrador de Dios: no arrogante, no iracundo, no adicto al vino, no pendenciero, no codicioso de ganancia deshonesta,
8 but hospitable, a lover of what is good, discreet, just, holy, temperate,
sino hospedador, amante de lo bueno, prudente, justo, santo, disciplinado,
9 holding fast the sure word according to what he was taught, that he may be able by sound teaching both to exhort, and to refute the gainsayers.
que retenga [la] palabra fiel, según la doctrina, a fin de que también pueda exhortar con la sana doctrina y convencer a los que contradicen.
10 For there are many unruly vain talkers and deceivers, especially they of the circumcision;
Porque hay muchos indisciplinados, habladores de vanidades y engañadores, especialmente de los judíos,
11 whose mouths must be stopped, since they overturn whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of base gain.
a quienes hay que silenciar, que trastornan familias enteras, pues enseñan lo que no es necesario por amor a una ganancia deshonesta.
12 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said: “The Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, slothful gluttons.”
Uno de ellos, su propio profeta, dijo: Cretenses, siempre mentirosos, malas bestias, glotones ociosos.
13 This testimony is true; for which cause rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,
Este testimonio es verdadero. Por lo cual, repréndelos severamente para que sean sanos en la fe,
14 not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men who turn away from the truth.
que no fijen [la] atención en fábulas judaicas y mandamientos de hombres que se apartan de la verdad.
15 To the pure all things are pure; but to the defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure, but both their mind and conscience are defiled.
Todas las cosas son puras para los puros, pero para los contaminados e incrédulos nada es puro. Pues aun la mente y la conciencia de ellos fueron contaminadas.
16 They profess that they know God, but by their works they deny him, being abominable and disobedient, and for every good work reprobate.
Profesan conocer a Dios, pero con los hechos lo niegan, pues son repugnantes y desobedientes, descalificados para toda buena obra.
