Titus 1
1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Christ Jesus, for the faith of God's elect, and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness,
Pavel, rob al lui Dumnezeu și apostol al lui Isus Cristos, conform cu credința aleșilor lui Dumnezeu și cu recunoașterea adevărului, care este conform cu evlavia,
2 in hope of everlasting life, which God, who cannot lie, promised from the most ancient times, (aiōnios g166)
În speranța vieții eterne, pe care Dumnezeu, care nu poate minți, a promis-o înainte de începutul lumii; (aiōnios g166)
3 but in his own seasons manifested his word through the preaching with which I was intrusted by the commandment of God our Saviour:
Și la timpurile cuvenite a arătat cuvântul său prin predicarea ce mi s-a încredințat, conform poruncii lui Dumnezeu, Salvatorul nostru;
4 to Titus, true child after the common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Saviour.
Lui Titus, adevăratul meu fiu după credința comună: Har, milă și pace, de la Dumnezeu Tatăl și Domnul Isus Cristos Salvatorul nostru.
5 For this cause I left thee behind in Crete, that thou shouldst set in order the things that are wanting, and appoint elders in every city, as I directed thee;
Din această cauză te-am lăsat în Creta, ca să pui în ordine cele ce lipsesc și să rânduiești bătrâni în fiecare cetate, așa cum eu te-am rânduit pe tine;
6 if any one is without reproach, the husband of one wife, having believing children, that are not accused of dissoluteness, or unruly.
Dacă cineva este ireproșabil, soțul unei singure soții, având copii credincioși, neacuzați de destrăbălare sau insubordonați.
7 For a bishop must be without reproach, as God's steward; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, not a striker, not greedy of base gain,
Fiindcă un episcop trebuie să fie ireproșabil ca administrator al lui Dumnezeu; nu încăpățânat, nu ușor de mâniat, nu dedat vinului, nu bătăuș, nu dedat câștigului murdar,
8 but hospitable, a lover of what is good, discreet, just, holy, temperate,
Ci iubitor de ospitalitate, iubitor al oamenilor buni, cumpătat, drept, sfânt, chibzuit,
9 holding fast the sure word according to what he was taught, that he may be able by sound teaching both to exhort, and to refute the gainsayers.
Ținând strâns cuvântul demn de încredere așa cum a fost învățat, ca el să fie în stare, prin doctrină sănătoasă, deopotrivă să îndemne și să convingă pe cei împotrivitori cu vorba.
10 For there are many unruly vain talkers and deceivers, especially they of the circumcision;
Fiindcă sunt mulți insubordonați și palavragii și înșelători, mai ales dintre cei ai circumciziei,
11 whose mouths must be stopped, since they overturn whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of base gain.
Ale căror guri trebuie să fie astupate, care răstoarnă case întregi, învățând ce nu ar trebui, de dragul unui câștig murdar.
12 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said: “The Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, slothful gluttons.”
Unul dintre ei, un profet de-al lor, a spus: Cretanii sunt totdeauna mincinoși, fiare rele, pântece leneșe.
13 This testimony is true; for which cause rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,
Această mărturie este adevărată. Din această cauză mustră-i aspru, ca ei să fie sănătoși în credință,
14 not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men who turn away from the truth.
Nedând atenție la fabulații iudaice și la porunci ale oamenilor care se întorc de la adevăr.
15 To the pure all things are pure; but to the defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure, but both their mind and conscience are defiled.
Pentru cei puri toate sunt pure, dar pentru cei întinați și care nu cred, nimic nu este curat ci și mintea și conștiința lor sunt întinate.
16 They profess that they know God, but by their works they deny him, being abominable and disobedient, and for every good work reprobate.
Ei mărturisesc că îl cunosc pe Dumnezeu, dar în fapte îl neagă, fiind scârboși și neascultători și sunt netrebnici pentru fiecare lucrare bună.
