Titus 1
1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Christ Jesus, for the faith of God's elect, and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness,
Paweł, sługa Boga i apostoł Jezusa Chrystusa według wiary wybranych Bożych i poznania prawdy, która [jest] zgodna z pobożnością;
2 in hope of everlasting life, which God, who cannot lie, promised from the most ancient times, (aiōnios g166)
W nadziei życia wiecznego, które obiecał przed dawnymi wiekami ten, który nie kłamie, Bóg; (aiōnios g166)
3 but in his own seasons manifested his word through the preaching with which I was intrusted by the commandment of God our Saviour:
I we właściwym czasie objawił swoje słowo przez głoszenie, które zostało mi powierzone zgodnie z nakazem Boga, naszego Zbawiciela;
4 to Titus, true child after the common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Saviour.
Do Tytusa, [mego] własnego syna we wspólnej wierze. Łaska, miłosierdzie i pokój od Boga Ojca i Pana Jezusa Chrystusa, naszego Zbawiciela.
5 For this cause I left thee behind in Crete, that thou shouldst set in order the things that are wanting, and appoint elders in every city, as I directed thee;
Zostawiłem cię na Krecie w tym celu, abyś uporządkował to, co tam [jeszcze] zostało [do zrobienia], i ustanowił w każdym mieście starszych, jak ci nakazałem;
6 if any one is without reproach, the husband of one wife, having believing children, that are not accused of dissoluteness, or unruly.
Jeśli ktoś jest nienaganny, mąż jednej żony, mający dzieci wierne, nieobwiniane o hulaszcze życie lub niekarność.
7 For a bishop must be without reproach, as God's steward; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, not a striker, not greedy of base gain,
Biskup bowiem, jako szafarz Boży, ma być nienaganny, niesamowolny, nieskory do gniewu, nieoddający się piciu wina, nieskłonny do bicia, niegoniący za brudnym zyskiem;
8 but hospitable, a lover of what is good, discreet, just, holy, temperate,
Lecz gościnny, miłujący dobro, roztropny, sprawiedliwy, święty, powściągliwy;
9 holding fast the sure word according to what he was taught, that he may be able by sound teaching both to exhort, and to refute the gainsayers.
Trzymający się wiernego słowa, zgodnego z nauką, aby też mógł przez zdrową naukę napominać i przekonywać tych, którzy się sprzeciwiają.
10 For there are many unruly vain talkers and deceivers, especially they of the circumcision;
Jest bowiem wielu niekarnych, oddających się czczej gadaninie i zwodzicieli, zwłaszcza wśród obrzezanych.
11 whose mouths must be stopped, since they overturn whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of base gain.
Im trzeba zamknąć usta, gdyż całe domy wywracają, nauczając, czego nie należy, dla brudnego zysku.
12 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said: “The Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, slothful gluttons.”
Jeden z nich, ich własny prorok, powiedział: Kreteńczycy to zawsze kłamcy, złe bestie, brzuchy leniwe.
13 This testimony is true; for which cause rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,
Świadectwo to jest prawdziwe. Dlatego karć ich surowo, aby byli zdrowi w wierze;
14 not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men who turn away from the truth.
I nie zajmowali się żydowskimi baśniami i przykazaniami ludzi odwracających się od prawdy.
15 To the pure all things are pure; but to the defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure, but both their mind and conscience are defiled.
Dla czystych wszystko jest czyste, natomiast dla skalanych i niewierzących nie ma nic czystego, lecz skalany jest zarówno ich umysł, jak i sumienie.
16 They profess that they know God, but by their works they deny him, being abominable and disobedient, and for every good work reprobate.
Twierdzą, że znają Boga, ale [swymi] uczynkami [temu] przeczą, budząc obrzydzenie, będąc nieposłusznymi i niezdolnymi do wszelkiego dobrego uczynku.
