Titus 1
1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Christ Jesus, for the faith of God's elect, and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness,
Paulo, servo de Deus, e apostolo de Jesus Christo, segundo a fé dos eleitos de Deus, e o conhecimento da verdade, que é segundo a piedade,
2 in hope of everlasting life, which God, who cannot lie, promised from the most ancient times, (aiōnios g166)
Em esperança da vida eterna, a qual Deus, que não pode mentir, prometteu antes dos tempos dos seculos; (aiōnios g166)
3 but in his own seasons manifested his word through the preaching with which I was intrusted by the commandment of God our Saviour:
Mas a seu tempo manifestou a sua palavra pela prégação que me é confiada segundo o mandamento de Deus, nosso Salvador;
4 to Titus, true child after the common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Saviour.
A Tito, verdadeiro filho, segundo a fé commum, graça, misericordia, e paz da parte de Deus Pae, e da do Senhor Jesus Christo, nosso Salvador.
5 For this cause I left thee behind in Crete, that thou shouldst set in order the things that are wanting, and appoint elders in every city, as I directed thee;
Por esta causa te deixei em Creta, para que pozesses em boa ordem as coisas que ainda restam, e de cidade em cidade estabelecesses anciãos, como já te mandei:
6 if any one is without reproach, the husband of one wife, having believing children, that are not accused of dissoluteness, or unruly.
Aquelle que fôr irreprehensivel, marido de uma mulher, que tenha filhos fieis, que não possam ser accusados de dissolução ou desobedientes.
7 For a bishop must be without reproach, as God's steward; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, not a striker, not greedy of base gain,
Porque convém que o bispo seja irreprehensivel, como dispenseiro da casa de Deus, não soberbo, nem iracundo, nem violento, nem espancador, nem cubiçoso de torpe ganancia;
8 but hospitable, a lover of what is good, discreet, just, holy, temperate,
Mas dado á hospitalidade, amante dos bons, moderado, justo, sancto, continente;
9 holding fast the sure word according to what he was taught, that he may be able by sound teaching both to exhort, and to refute the gainsayers.
Retendo firme a fiel palavra, que é conforme a doutrina, para que seja poderoso, assim para admoestar com a sã doutrina, como para convencer aos contradizentes.
10 For there are many unruly vain talkers and deceivers, especially they of the circumcision;
Porque tambem ha muitos desordenados, falladores de vaidades, e enganadores, principalmente os da circumcisão,
11 whose mouths must be stopped, since they overturn whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of base gain.
Aos quaes convem tapar a bocca; os que transtornam casas inteiras ensinando o que não convém, por torpe ganancia.
12 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said: “The Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, slothful gluttons.”
Um d'elles, seu proprio propheta, disse: Os cretenses são sempre mentirosos, bestas ruins, ventres preguiçosos.
13 This testimony is true; for which cause rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,
Este testemunho é verdadeiro. Portanto reprehende-os severamente, para que sejam sãos na fé:
14 not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men who turn away from the truth.
Não dando ouvidos ás fabulas judaicas, e aos mandamentos de homens que se desviam da verdade.
15 To the pure all things are pure; but to the defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure, but both their mind and conscience are defiled.
Todas as coisas são puras para os puros, mas nada é puro para os contaminados e infieis: antes o seu entendimento e consciencia estão contaminados.
16 They profess that they know God, but by their works they deny him, being abominable and disobedient, and for every good work reprobate.
Confessam que conhecem a Deus, porém o negam com as obras, sendo abominaveis, e desobedientes, e reprovados para toda a boa obra.
