Romans 5
1 Therefore being accepted as righteous through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ;
Etant donc justifiés par la foi, nous avons la paix avec Dieu par Jésus-Christ Notre Seigneur,
2 through whom also we have had admission into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in the hope of the glory which God will confer.
Par qui aussi nous avons accès par la foi à cette grâce en laquelle nous sommes établis, et nous nous glorifions dans l’espérance de la gloire des enfants de Dieu.
3 And not only so, but we rejoice in afflictions also, knowing that affliction produceth endurance,
Mais outre cela, nous nous glorifions encore dans les tribulations, sachant que la tribulation produit la patience;
4 and endurance proof [[of faith]], and proof [[of faith giveth]] hope;
La patience, l’épreuve; et l’épreuve, l’espérance;
5 and hope will not disappoint us; because the love of God hath been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which hath been given to us.
Or l’espérance ne confond point, parce que la charité de Dieu est répandue en nos cœurs par l’Esprit-Saint qui nous a été donné.
6 For while we were yet without strength, in due season Christ died for the ungodly.
En effet, pourquoi le Christ, lorsque nous étions encore infirmes, est-il mort au temps marqué, pour des impies?
7 Now hardly for a righteous man will one die; perhaps, however, for a benefactor one might even dare to die.
Certes, à peine quelqu’un mourrait-il pour un juste; peut-être cependant que quelqu’un aurait le courage de mourir pour un homme de bien.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Ainsi, Dieu témoigne son amour pour nous, en ce que, dans le temps où nous étions encore pécheurs,
9 Much more then, being now accepted as righteous through his blood, we shall be saved through him from the [[coming]] wrath.
Le Christ est mort pour nous. Maintenant donc, justifiés par son sang, nous serons, à plus forte raison, délivrés par lui de la colère.
10 For if while enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more having been reconciled shall we be saved by his life;
Car si, lorsque nous étions ennemis de Dieu, nous avons été réconciliés avec lui par la mort de son Fils; à plus forte raison, réconciliés, serons-nous sauvés par sa vie.
11 and not this only, but also having joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
Mais outre cela, nous nous glorifions en Dieu par Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, par qui maintenant nous avons obtenu la réconciliation.
12 So then as through one man sin entered into the world, and through sin death, and thus [[death]] came through unto all men, because all sinned—
C’est pourquoi, comme le péché est entré dans le monde par un seul homme, et la mort par le péché, ainsi la mort a passé dans tous les hommes par celui en qui tous ont péché.
13 (for all the time before the Law sin was in the world; but sin is not set to one's account when there is no law.
Car le péché a été dans le monde jusqu’à la loi; mais le péché n’était pas imputé, puisque la loi n’existait pas.
14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the manner in which Adam transgressed; who is a type of him who was to come.—
Mais la mort a régné depuis Adam jusqu’à Moïse, même en ceux qui n’avaient point péché par une prévarication semblable à celle d’Adam, qui est la figure de celui qui devait venir.
15 But the free gift was not as the transgression. For if through the offence of the one the many died, much more hath the grace of God, and the gift which is by the grace of the one man Jesus Christ, abounded to the many.
Mais il n’en est pas du don, comme du péché; car si par le péché d’un seul beaucoup sont morts, bien plus abondamment la grâce et le don de Dieu, par la grâce d’un seul homme, Jésus-Christ, se sont répandus sur un grand nombre.
16 And the free gift is not like what happened through one man who sinned. For sentence of condemnation followed one offence; but the free gift is a justification after many offences.
Et il n’en est pas du don comme du péché venu par un seul; car le jugement de condamnation vient d’un seul, tandis que la grâce de la justification délivre d’un grand nombre de péchés.
17 For if by one trespass death reigned through the one man, much more will they who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.)—
Et si, par le péché d’un seul, la mort a régné par un seul, à plus forte raison ceux qui reçoivent l’abondance de la grâce, et du don, et de la justice, règneront-ils dans la vie par un seul, Jésus-Christ.
18 As then through one trespass all men have come under condemnation, so through one act of righteousness all obtain the gift of righteousness unto life.
Comme donc c’est par le péché d’un seul que tous les hommes sont tombés dans la condamnation, ainsi c’est par la justice d’un seul que tous les hommes reçoivent la justification de la vie.
19 For as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so through the obedience of the one man will the many be made righteous.
Car, de même que par la désobéissance d’un seul homme beaucoup ont été constitués pécheurs, de même aussi, par l’obéissance d’un seul, beaucoup sont constitués justes.
20 Moreover the law came in in addition, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace abounded much more;
La loi est survenue pour que le péché abondât. Mais où le péché a abondé, la grâce a surabondé,
