1 What then is the advantage of the Jew? or what the benefit of circumcision?
apara nca yihuudina. h ki. m "sre. s.thatva. m? tathaa tvakchedasya vaa ki. m phala. m?
2 Great, every way. In the first place, because they were entrusted with the oracles of God.
sarvvathaa bahuuni phalaani santi, vi"se. sata ii"svarasya "saastra. m tebhyo. adiiyata|
3 For what? If some were unfaithful, shall their unfaithfulness make God unfaithful?
kai"scid avi"svasane k. rte te. saam avi"svasanaat kim ii"svarasya vi"svaasyataayaa haanirutpatsyate?
4 Far be it! yea, let God be true, and every man a liar; as it is written, “That thou mayst be justified in thy words, and mayst overcome when thou art arraigned.”
kenaapi prakaare. na nahi| yadyapi sarvve manu. syaa mithyaavaadinastathaapii"svara. h satyavaadii| "saastre yathaa likhitamaaste, atastvantu svavaakyena nirddo. so hi bhavi. syasi| vicaare caiva ni. spaapo bhavi. syasi na sa. m"saya. h|
5 But if our unrighteousness serve to display the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who inflicteth punishment? (I am speaking as men do.)
asmaakam anyaayena yadii"svarasya nyaaya. h prakaa"sate tarhi ki. m vadi. syaama. h? aha. m maanu. saa. naa. m kathaamiva kathaa. m kathayaami, ii"svara. h samucita. m da. n.da. m dattvaa kim anyaayii bhavi. syati?
6 Far be it! For then how shall God judge the world?
ittha. m na bhavatu, tathaa satii"svara. h katha. m jagato vicaarayitaa bhavi. syati?
7 For if, through my being false, the truth of God hath been more abundantly manifested to his glory, why am I still judged as a sinner?
mama mithyaavaakyavadanaad yadii"svarasya satyatvena tasya mahimaa varddhate tarhi kasmaadaha. m vicaare. aparaadhitvena ga. nyo bhavaami?
8 And why do you not say, as some slanderously charge us with saying, Let us do evil, that good may come? The condemnation of such men is just.
ma"ngalaartha. m paapamapi kara. niiyamiti vaakya. m tvayaa kuto nocyate? kintu yairucyate te nitaanta. m da. n.dasya paatraa. ni bhavanti; tathaapi tadvaakyam asmaabhirapyucyata ityasmaaka. m glaani. m kurvvanta. h kiyanto lokaa vadanti|
9 What then? Are we better than others? By no means! For we have already brought a charge both against Jews and Greeks, that they are all under sin.
anyalokebhyo vaya. m ki. m "sre. s.thaa. h? kadaacana nahi yato yihuudino. anyade"sina"sca sarvvaeva paapasyaayattaa ityasya pramaa. na. m vaya. m puurvvam adadaama|
10 As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;
lipi ryathaaste, naikopi dhaarmmiko jana. h|
11 there is none that hath understanding, there is none that diligently seeketh God;
tathaa j naanii"svaraj naanii maanava. h kopi naasti hi|
12 they have all turned aside from the right way, they have become worthless together; there is none that doeth good, not even one.
vimaargagaamina. h sarvve sarvve du. skarmmakaari. na. h| eko janopi no te. saa. m saadhukarmma karoti ca|
13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have practised deceit. The poison of asps is under their lips.
tathaa te. saantu vai ka. n.thaa anaav. rta"sma"saanavat| stutivaada. m prakurvvanti jihvaabhiste tu kevala. m| te. saamo. s.thasya nimne tu vi. sa. m ti. s.thati sarppavat|
14 Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.
mukha. m te. saa. m hi "saapena kapa. tena ca puuryyate|
15 Swift are their feet to shed blood;
raktapaataaya te. saa. m tu padaani k. sipragaani ca|
16 destruction and misery are in their ways;
pathi te. saa. m manu. syaa. naa. m naa"sa. h kle"sa"sca kevala. h|
17 and the way of peace they know not.
te janaa nahi jaananti panthaana. m sukhadaayina. m|
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
parame"saad bhaya. m yattat taccak. su. soragocara. m|
19 Now we know that whatever the Law saith, it saith to those who are under the Law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world become subject to condemnation before God.
vyavasthaayaa. m yadyallikhati tad vyavasthaadhiinaan lokaan uddi"sya likhatiiti vaya. m jaaniima. h| tato manu. syamaatro niruttara. h san ii"svarasya saak. saad aparaadhii bhavati|
20 Because by works of the Law no flesh shall be accepted as righteous: for by the Law is the knowledge of sin.
ataeva vyavasthaanuruupai. h karmmabhi. h ka"scidapi praa. nii"svarasya saak. saat sapu. nyiik. rto bhavitu. m na "sak. syati yato vyavasthayaa paapaj naanamaatra. m jaayate|
21 But now, apart from the Law, the righteousness which is of God, to which the Law and the Prophets bear testimony,
kintu vyavasthaayaa. h p. rthag ii"svare. na deya. m yat pu. nya. m tad vyavasthaayaa bhavi. syadvaadiga. nasya ca vacanai. h pramaa. niik. rta. m sad idaanii. m prakaa"sate|
22 even the righteousness which is of God through faith in Jesus Christ, hath been made manifest to all and for all believers. For there is no distinction.
yii"sukhrii. s.te vi"svaasakara. naad ii"svare. na datta. m tat pu. nya. m sakale. su prakaa"sita. m sat sarvvaan vi"svaasina. h prati varttate|
23 For all have sinned, and fail of obtaining the glory which cometh from God;
te. saa. m kopi prabhedo naasti, yata. h sarvvaeva paapina ii"svariiyatejohiinaa"sca jaataa. h|
24 being accepted as righteous freely, by his grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
ta ii"svarasyaanugrahaad muulya. m vinaa khrii. s.tak. rtena paritraa. nena sapu. nyiik. rtaa bhavanti|
25 whom, in his blood, through faith, God hath set forth as a propitiatory sacrifice, in order to manifest his righteousness, on account of his passing by, in his forbearance, the sins committed in former times;
yasmaat sva"so. nitena vi"svaasaat paapanaa"sako balii bhavitu. m sa eva puurvvam ii"svare. na ni"scita. h, ittham ii"svariiyasahi. s.nutvaat puraak. rtapaapaanaa. m maarjjanakara. ne sviiyayaathaarthya. m tena prakaa"syate,
26 in order to manifest his righteousness at the present time, so that he may be righteous, and accept as righteous him who hath faith.
varttamaanakaaliiyamapi svayaathaarthya. m tena prakaa"syate, apara. m yii"sau vi"svaasina. m sapu. nyiikurvvannapi sa yaathaarthikasti. s.thati|
27 Where then is the boasting? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay; but by the law of faith.
tarhi kutraatma"slaaghaa? saa duuriik. rtaa; kayaa vyavasthayaa? ki. m kriyaaruupavyavasthayaa? ittha. m nahi kintu tat kevalavi"svaasaruupayaa vyavasthayaiva bhavati|
28 We conclude therefore, that a man is accepted as righteous through faith, without the works of the Law.
ataeva vyavasthaanuruupaa. h kriyaa vinaa kevalena vi"svaasena maanava. h sapu. nyiik. rto bhavitu. m "saknotiityasya raaddhaanta. m dar"sayaama. h|
29 Or is God [[the God]] of Jews alone? Is he not also the God of gentiles? Yea, of gentiles also.
sa ki. m kevalayihuudinaam ii"svaro bhavati? bhinnade"sinaam ii"svaro na bhavati? bhinnade"sinaamapi bhavati;
30 Seeing there is but one God, who will accept the circumcised as righteous by faith, and the uncircumcised through faith.
yasmaad eka ii"svaro vi"svaasaat tvakchedino vi"svaasenaatvakchedina"sca sapu. nyiikari. syati|
31 Do we then make void the Law through faith? Far be it! On the contrary, we establish the Law.
tarhi vi"svaasena vaya. m ki. m vyavasthaa. m lumpaama? ittha. m na bhavatu vaya. m vyavasthaa. m sa. msthaapayaama eva|
