Romans 14
1 Him that is weak in his faith receive with kindness, and not to pass judgment on his thoughts.
Võtke vastu need, kellel on veel raskusi Jumalasse uskumisega, ja ärge astuge vaidlusse isiklike arvamuste üle.
2 One man hath faith to eat every kind of food; another, who is weak, eateth herbs only.
Üks inimene võib arvata, et ta võib kõike süüa, samal ajal teine, kelle usk on nõrk, sööb ainult aedvilju.
3 Let not him who eateth, despise him that eateth not; and let not him who eateth not, judge him that eateth; for God hath received him.
Need, kes söövad kõike, ei tohi halvustada neid, kes ei söö, ja need, kes ei söö, ei tohi arvustada neid, kes söövad, sest Jumal võtab nad mõlemad vastu.
4 Who art thou that judgest the servant of another? To his own lord he standeth or falleth; and he shall be made to stand; for the Lord is able to make him stand.
Mis õigust on teil kellegi teise teenija üle kohut mõista? Tema enda isand on see, kes otsustab, kas ta teeb õigesti või valesti. Issanda abiga suudavad nad õiguse poolel seista.
5 One man esteemeth one day above another; another esteemeth every day alike: let each one be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it to the Lord;
Mõned peavad mõnda päeva olulisemaks kui teisi, samas kui teised peavad kõiki päevi ühesuguseks. Igaüks peaks oma mõtteis täielikult veendunud olema.
6 and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. And he that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth thanks to God; and he that doth not eat, to the Lord he doth not eat, and giveth thanks to God.
Need, kes austavad erilist päeva, teevad seda Issandale; ja need, kes söövad ilma muretsemata, teevad seda Issandale, sest nad tänavad Jumalat. Samal ajal need, kes väldivad teatud asjade söömist, teevad seda Issandale ja ka nemad annavad tänu Jumalale.
7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no one dieth to himself.
Keegi meist ei ela iseendale ega sure iseendale.
8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Whether then we live or die, we are the Lord's.
Kui elame, siis elame Issandale, või kui sureme, siis sureme Issandale − seega kas me elame või sureme, me kuulume Issandale.
9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and the living.
Sel põhjusel Kristus suri ja ärkas jälle ellu − et ta saaks olla nii surnute kui ka elavate Issand.
10 But thou, why dost thou judge thy brother? And thou, too, why dost thou despise thy brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment-seat of God.
Miks te siis arvustate oma kaasusklikke? Miks te põlgate oma kaasusklikke? Sest me kõik seisame Jumala kohtutrooni ees.
11 For it is written, “As I live, saith the Lord, to me every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall give praise to God.”
Sest Pühakiri ütleb: „„Sama kindlalt kui ma elan, “ütleb Issand, „peavad kõik põlved kummarduma minu ees ja iga keel kuulutab, et ma olen Jumal.““
12 So then every one of us will give account of himself to God.
Seega peab igaüks meist oma teguviisi Jumala ees selgitama.
13 Let us then no longer judge one another; but let this rather be your judgment, not to put a stumbling-block, or an occasion to fall, in a brother's way.
Seepärast ärgem enam mõistkem üksteise üle kohut, vaid otsustagem hoopis, et me ei pane takistusi oma kaasusklike teele ega sunni neid langema.
14 I know, and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him that accounteth anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
Ma olen kindel − mind on veennud Issand Jeesus −, et miski ei ole iseenesest tseremoniaalselt ebapuhas. Aga kui keegi peab seda ebapuhtaks, siis on see tema jaoks ebapuhas.
15 For if on account of food thy brother is made to mourn, thou art no longer walking according to love. Do not with thy food destroy him for whom Christ died.
Kui teie kaasusklikku haavab teie toiduküsimus, siis ei käitu te enam armastavalt. Ärge hävitage kedagi, kelle eest Kristus suri, toiduga, mida valite söömiseks.
16 Let not then the blessing which ye enjoy be evil spoken of.
Ärge laske head, mida teete, vääriti kujutada,
17 For the kingdom of God is not food and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit;
sest Jumala riik ei ole söömine ja joomine, vaid õigesti elamine ning rahu ja rõõmu omamine Pühas Vaimus.
18 for he who in this matter serveth Christ is well-pleasing to God, and approved by men.
Igaüks, kes teenib Kristust niimoodi, on Jumalale meelepärane ja teised tunnustavad teda.
19 Let us then strive to promote peace, and the edification of each other.
Käigem siis rahurajal ja leidkem võimalusi üksteise julgustamiseks.
20 Do not for the sake of food undo the work of God. All things indeed are clean; but that which is pure is evil for that man who eateth so as to be an occasion of sin.
Ärge hävitage Jumala tööd vaidlustega toidu üle. Kõik on puhas, kuid on vale süüa ja teisi haavata.
21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor to do anything whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is put in danger of falling, or is made weak.
Parem on mitte süüa liha ja mitte juua veini ega teha midagi muud, mis paneks kaasuskliku komistama.
22 Thou hast faith; have it to thyself before God. Happy is he who doth not condemn himself in that which he alloweth.
See, mida te isiklikult usute, on teie ja Jumala vaheline asi. Õnnelikud on need, kes ei mõista end hukka, tehes seda, mida nad õigeks peavad!
23 But he that doubteth is condemned if he eat, because he doeth it not from faith; but every thing which is not from faith is sin.
Aga kui teil on kahtlusi, kas millegi söömine on õige või vale, siis ei peaks sööma, sest te pole veendunud, et see on õige. Mis ei põhine kindlal veendumusel, on patt.
