Romans 13
1 Let every one submit to the authorities that are over him; for there is no authority which is not from God: and the authorities which exist have been ordained by God.
Кожна людина нехай підкоряється вищій владі, бо немає влади, крім тієї, яку встановив Бог. [Влади], які існують, були встановлені Богом.
2 He therefore that setteth himself against the authority resisteth what God hath ordained; and they a who resist will bring upon themselves judgment.
Отже, той, хто противиться владі, противиться Божому порядку, а ті, хто противиться, накликають на себе суд.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wouldst thou then not be afraid of the government? Do that which is good, and thou wilt have praise from it;
Адже правителі не страшні для тих, хто чинить добрі діла, а для тих, хто чинить зло. Хочеш не боятися влади? Тоді роби те, що добре, й отримаєш похвалу від неї.
4 for the ruler is God's servant to thee for good. But if thou doest evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain; for he is God's servant, an avenger to inflict wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Бо [правитель] – це служитель Бога тобі на добро. Але якщо будеш чинити зло, бійся, бо недаремно він носить меч. Він слуга Божий, месник, який приносить покарання тому, хто чинить зло.
5 It is necessary therefore to submit, not only because of the wrath, but also for your conscience' sake.
Отже, потрібно підкорятися не лише через [страх його] гніву, але й через сумління.
6 For the same reason pay tribute also; for they are ministers of God, attending continually to this very business.
Тому ви й платите податки, бо [влада] – Божі слуги, які постійно зайняті своїми обов’язками.
7 Render to all what is due to them; tribute, to whom tribute is due; custom, to whom custom; fear, to whom fear; honor, to whom honor.
Віддайте всім належне: кому податок – податок, кому мито – мито, кому повагу – повагу, кому пошану – пошану.
8 Owe no one anything but brotherly love; for he that loveth others hath fulfilled the Law.
Нікому нічого не будьте винні, окрім взаємної любові, бо хто любить іншого, той виконав Закон.
9 For these, “Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet,” and every other commandment, are summed up in this precept, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”
Адже заповіді: «Не чини перелюбу», «Не вбивай», «Не вкради», «Не бажай» і будь-яка інша заповідь містяться в цьому слові: «Люби ближнього свого, як самого себе».
10 Love worketh no ill to one's neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the Law.
Любов не чинить ближньому зла. Тому любов – це і є виконання Закону.
11 And this, since we know the time, that it is already high time for us to awake out of sleep; for now is our salvation nearer than when we became believers.
Тим більше ви знаєте, [який це] час, що вже настала пора прокинутися від сну, бо наше спасіння ближче зараз, ніж коли ми повірили.
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand; let us then throw off the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light.
Ніч майже закінчилася, і наближається день. Тож відкиньмо діла темряви й зодягнімось у зброю світла.
13 Let us walk becomingly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in lewdness and wantonness, not in strife and envy;
Поводьмося пристойно, як удень, не в гульні та пияцтві, не в перелюбі та розпусті, не у сварках та заздрощах.
14 but clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and think not about satisfying the lusts of the flesh.
Але зодягніться в Господа Ісуса Христа і турботу про тіло не перетворюйте в пристрасть.
