Psalms 94
1 O LORD! thou God of vengeance! O thou God of vengeance! shine forth!
Dieu des vengeances, ô Éternel, Dieu des vengeances, fais rayonner ta splendeur!
2 Rouse thyself, thou judge of the earth! Render a recompense to the proud!
Lève-toi, juge de la terre. Châtie les orgueilleux comme ils le méritent!
3 How long, O LORD! shall the wicked, How long shall the wicked triumph?
Jusques à quand les méchants, ô Éternel, Jusques à quand les méchants triompheront-ils?
4 How long shall their lips pour forth insolence? How long shall all the evil-doers boast?
Jusques à quand se répandront-ils en discours insolents. Et se glorifieront-ils, tous les ouvriers d'iniquité?
5 O LORD! they trample upon thy people, And oppress thine inheritance!
Éternel, ils écrasent ton peuple. Et ils oppriment ton héritage.
6 They slay the widow, and the stranger, And murder the fatherless;
Ils tuent la veuve et l'étranger. Et ils mettent à mort les orphelins.
7 And they say, “The LORD doth not see, The God of Jacob doth not regard!”
Puis ils disent: «L'Éternel ne le voit pas; Le Dieu de Jacob n'y fait pas attention!»
8 Be instructed, ye most stupid of mankind! O when, ye fools, will ye be wise?
Prenez garde, hommes stupides! Insensés, quand donc ferez-vous preuve d'intelligence?
9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? He that formed the eye, shall he not see?
Celui qui a planté l'oreille n'entendra-t-il pas? Celui qui a formé l'oeil ne verra-t-il pas?
10 He that chastiseth nations, shall not he punish? He that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?
Celui qui châtie les nations ne punira-t-il pas. Lui qui enseigne aux hommes la science?
11 The LORD knoweth the thoughts of men, That they are vanity.
L'Éternel connaît les pensées de l'homme: Il sait qu'elles sont vaines!
12 Happy the man, O LORD! whom thou correctest, Whom by thy teaching thou makest wise;
Heureux, ô Éternel, l'homme que tu instruis, Et à qui tu enseignes ta loi,
13 To give him peace in the days of adversity, Until a pit be digged for the wicked!
Pour le remplir de paix pendant les mauvais jours. Tandis que se creuse la tombe sous les pas du méchant!
14 For the LORD will not forsake his people, Nor abandon his own inheritance.
L'Éternel ne délaissera pas son peuple, Et il n'abandonnera pas son héritage.
15 For judgment shall return to justice, And all the upright in heart shall follow it.
Ses jugements se montreront un jour conformes à la justice. Et tous ceux qui ont le coeur droit s'en réjouiront.
16 Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stand up for me against the evil-doers?
Qui se lèvera pour moi contre les méchants? Qui prendra ma défense contre les ouvriers d'iniquité?
17 If the LORD had not been my help, I had well nigh dwelt in the land of silence.
Si l'Éternel n'eût été mon secours. Bientôt mon âme eût habité le séjour du silence.
18 When I think that my foot is slipping, Thy goodness, O LORD! holdeth me up.
Quand je disais: «Mon pied chancelle» — Ta bonté, ô Éternel, m'a soutenu!
19 In the multitude of anxieties within me, Thy consolations revive my soul.
Quand mon coeur était assiégé de soucis. Tes consolations ont réjoui mon âme.
20 Shall with thee be allied the throne of iniquity, Which deviseth mischief against law?
Comment pourrais-tu te faire le complice des juges iniques, Qui commettent des crimes au nom de la loi?
21 They band together against the life of the righteous, And condemn innocent blood.
Ils attaquent la vie du juste, Et ils condamnent le sang innocent.
22 But the LORD is my fortress, And my God the rock of my refuge.
Mais l'Éternel est ma haute retraite; Mon Dieu est le rocher où je trouve un refuge.
23 He will bring upon them their own iniquity; Yea, through their own wickedness he will cut them off; Yea, the LORD, our God, will cut them off.
Il fera retomber sur eux leur crime, Et leur perversité même consommera leur ruine. Oui, l'Éternel, notre Dieu, les fera périr.
