Psalms 94
1 O LORD! thou God of vengeance! O thou God of vengeance! shine forth!
Dieu des vengeances, Éternel! Dieu des vengeances, parais!
2 Rouse thyself, thou judge of the earth! Render a recompense to the proud!
Lève-toi, juge de la terre! Rends aux superbes selon leurs œuvres!
3 How long, O LORD! shall the wicked, How long shall the wicked triumph?
Jusques à quand les méchants, ô Éternel! Jusques à quand les méchants triompheront-ils?
4 How long shall their lips pour forth insolence? How long shall all the evil-doers boast?
Ils discourent, ils parlent avec arrogance; Tous ceux qui font le mal se glorifient.
5 O LORD! they trample upon thy people, And oppress thine inheritance!
Éternel! Ils écrasent ton peuple, Ils oppriment ton héritage;
6 They slay the widow, and the stranger, And murder the fatherless;
Ils égorgent la veuve et l’étranger, Ils assassinent les orphelins.
7 And they say, “The LORD doth not see, The God of Jacob doth not regard!”
Et ils disent: L’Éternel ne regarde pas, Le Dieu de Jacob ne fait pas attention!
8 Be instructed, ye most stupid of mankind! O when, ye fools, will ye be wise?
Prenez-y garde, hommes stupides! Insensés, quand serez-vous sages?
9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? He that formed the eye, shall he not see?
Celui qui a planté l’oreille n’entendrait-il pas? Celui qui a formé l’œil ne verrait-il pas?
10 He that chastiseth nations, shall not he punish? He that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?
Celui qui châtie les nations ne punirait-il point, Lui qui donne à l’homme l’intelligence?
11 The LORD knoweth the thoughts of men, That they are vanity.
L’Éternel connaît les pensées de l’homme, Il sait qu’elles sont vaines.
12 Happy the man, O LORD! whom thou correctest, Whom by thy teaching thou makest wise;
Heureux l’homme que tu châties, ô Éternel! Et que tu instruis par ta loi,
13 To give him peace in the days of adversity, Until a pit be digged for the wicked!
Pour le calmer aux jours du malheur, Jusqu’à ce que la fosse soit creusée pour le méchant!
14 For the LORD will not forsake his people, Nor abandon his own inheritance.
Car l’Éternel ne délaisse pas son peuple, Il n’abandonne pas son héritage;
15 For judgment shall return to justice, And all the upright in heart shall follow it.
Car le jugement sera conforme à la justice, Et tous ceux dont le cœur est droit l’approuveront.
16 Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stand up for me against the evil-doers?
Qui se lèvera pour moi contre les méchants? Qui me soutiendra contre ceux qui font le mal?
17 If the LORD had not been my help, I had well nigh dwelt in the land of silence.
Si l’Éternel n’était pas mon secours, Mon âme serait bien vite dans la demeure du silence.
18 When I think that my foot is slipping, Thy goodness, O LORD! holdeth me up.
Quand je dis: Mon pied chancelle! Ta bonté, ô Éternel! Me sert d’appui.
19 In the multitude of anxieties within me, Thy consolations revive my soul.
Quand les pensées s’agitent en foule au-dedans de moi, Tes consolations réjouissent mon âme.
20 Shall with thee be allied the throne of iniquity, Which deviseth mischief against law?
Les méchants te feraient-ils siéger sur leur trône, Eux qui forment des desseins iniques en dépit de la loi?
21 They band together against the life of the righteous, And condemn innocent blood.
Ils se rassemblent contre la vie du juste, Et ils condamnent le sang innocent.
22 But the LORD is my fortress, And my God the rock of my refuge.
Mais l’Éternel est ma retraite, Mon Dieu est le rocher de mon refuge.
23 He will bring upon them their own iniquity; Yea, through their own wickedness he will cut them off; Yea, the LORD, our God, will cut them off.
Il fera retomber sur eux leur iniquité, Il les anéantira par leur méchanceté; L’Éternel, notre Dieu, les anéantira.
