Psalms 91

1 He who sitteth under the shelter of the Most High Maketh his abode in the shadow of the Almighty.

Chi dimora nel ritiro dell’Altissimo alberga all’ombra dell’Onnipotente.

2 I say to the LORD, Thou art my refuge and my fortress; My God, in whom I trust.

Io dico all’Eterno: Tu sei il mio rifugio e la mia fortezza, il mio Dio, in cui confido!

3 Surely he will deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, And from the wasting pestilence;

Certo egli ti libererà dal laccio dell’uccellatore e dalla peste mortifera.

4 He will cover thee with his feathers, And under his wings shalt thou find refuge; His faithfulness shall be thy shield and buckler.

Egli ti coprirà con le sue penne, e sotto le sue ali troverai rifugio. La sua fedeltà ti è scudo e targa.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid of the terror of the night, Nor of the arrow that flieth by day;

Tu non temerai lo spavento notturno, né la saetta che vola di giorno,

6 Nor of the pestilence that walketh in darkness, Nor of the plague that destroyeth at noonday.

né la peste che va attorno nelle tenebre, né lo sterminio che infierisce in pien mezzodì.

7 A thousand shall fall by thy side, And ten thousand at thy right hand; But thee it shall not touch.

Mille te ne cadranno al fianco, e diecimila alla destra; ma tu non ne sarai colpito.

8 Thou shalt only behold with thine eyes, And see the recompense of the wicked.

Solo contemplerai coi tuoi occhi e vedrai la retribuzione degli empi.

9 Because thou hast made the LORD thy refuge, And the Most High thy habitation,

Poiché tu hai detto: O Eterno, tu sei il mio rifugio; tu hai preso l’Altissimo per il tuo asilo,

10 No evil shall befall thee, Nor any plague come near thy dwelling.

male alcuno non ti coglierà, né piaga alcuna s’accosterà alla tua tenda.

11 For he will give his angels charge over thee, To guard thee in all thy ways.

Poiché egli comanderà ai suoi angeli di guardarti in tutte le tue vie.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, Lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Essi ti porteranno in palma di mano, che talora il tuo piè non urti in alcuna pietra.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and the adder; The young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under foot.

Tu camminerai sul leone e sull’aspide, calpesterai il leoncello e il serpente.

14 “Because he loveth me, I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knoweth my name.

Poich’egli ha posta in me la sua affezione, io lo libererò; lo leverò in alto, perché conosce il mio nome.

15 When he calleth upon me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and bring him to honor.

Egli m’invocherà, ed io gli risponderò; sarò con lui nella distretta; lo libererò, e lo glorificherò.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, And show him my salvation.”

Lo sazierò di lunga vita, e gli farò vedere la mia salvezza.
