Psalms 89
1 “A psalm of Ethan, the Ezrahite.” I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever; With my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations!
Cantique d’Éthan, l’Ezrachite. Je chanterai toujours les bontés de l’Éternel; Ma bouche fera connaître à jamais ta fidélité.
2 For I know that thy mercy endureth for ever; Thou hast established thy truth like the heavens.
Car je dis: La bonté a des fondements éternels; Tu établis ta fidélité dans les cieux.
3 “I have made a covenant with my chosen; I have sworn to David, my servant:
J’ai fait alliance avec mon élu; Voici ce que j’ai juré à David, mon serviteur:
4 Thy family I will establish for ever, And build up thy throne to all generations.” (Pause)
J’affermirai ta postérité pour toujours, Et j’établirai ton trône à perpétuité. (Pause)
5 The heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD! And the assembly of the holy ones thy truth!
Les cieux célèbrent tes merveilles, ô Éternel! Et ta fidélité dans l’assemblée des saints.
6 Who in the heavens can be compared to Jehovah? Who is like Jehovah among the sons of God?
Car qui, dans le ciel, peut se comparer à l’Éternel? Qui est semblable à toi parmi les fils de Dieu?
7 A God greatly to be feared in the assembly of the holy ones, And to be had in reverence above all who are around him?
Dieu est terrible dans la grande assemblée des saints, Il est redoutable pour tous ceux qui l’entourent.
8 O Jehovah, God of hosts! Who is mighty like thee, O Jehovah? And thy faithfulness is round about thee.
Éternel, Dieu des armées! Qui est comme toi puissant, ô Éternel? Ta fidélité t’environne.
9 Thou rulest the raging of the sea; When the waves thereof rise, thou stillest them!
Tu domptes l’orgueil de la mer; Quand ses flots se soulèvent, tu les apaises.
10 Thou didst break Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; Thou didst scatter thine enemies with thy mighty arm.
Tu écrasas l’Égypte comme un cadavre, Tu dispersas tes ennemis par la puissance de ton bras.
11 The heavens are thine; thine also is the earth; The world and all that is therein, thou didst found them.
C’est à toi qu’appartiennent les cieux et la terre, C’est toi qui as fondé le monde et ce qu’il renferme.
12 The North and the South were created by thee; Tabor and Hermon rejoice in thy name.
Tu as créé le nord et le midi; Le Thabor et l’Hermon se réjouissent à ton nom.
13 Thine is a mighty arm; Strong is thy hand, and high thy right hand.
Ton bras est puissant, Ta main forte, ta droite élevée.
14 Justice and equity are the foundation of thy throne; Mercy and truth go before thy face.
La justice et l’équité sont la base de ton trône. La bonté et la fidélité sont devant ta face.
15 Happy the people that know the trumpet's sound! They walk, O LORD! in the light of thy countenance;
Heureux le peuple qui connaît le son de la trompette; Il marche à la clarté de ta face, ô Éternel!
16 In thy name they daily rejoice, And in thy righteousness they glory!
Il se réjouit sans cesse de ton nom, Et il se glorifie de ta justice.
17 For thou art the glory of their strength; Yea, through thy favor our horn exalteth itself!
Car tu es la gloire de sa puissance; C’est ta faveur qui relève notre force.
18 For from Jehovah is our shield, And from the Holy One of Israel is our king.
Car l’Éternel est notre bouclier, Le Saint d’Israël est notre roi.
19 Once thou spakest in a vision to thy holy one, And saidst, —”I have laid help on one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people;
Alors tu parlas dans une vision à ton bien-aimé, Et tu dis: J’ai prêté mon secours à un héros, J’ai élevé du milieu du peuple un jeune homme;
20 I have found David, my servant; With my holy oil have I anointed him.
J’ai trouvé David, mon serviteur, Je l’ai oint de mon huile sainte.
21 With him shall my hand be established, And my arm shall strengthen him.
Ma main le soutiendra, Et mon bras le fortifiera.
22 The enemy shall not have power over him, Nor shall the unrighteous man oppress him.
L’ennemi ne le surprendra pas, Et le méchant ne l’opprimera point;
23 For I will beat down his foes before him, And overthrow them that hate him.
J’écraserai devant lui ses adversaires, Et je frapperai ceux qui le haïssent.
24 My faithfulness and mercy shall be with him, And through my name shall his horn be exalted.
Ma fidélité et ma bonté seront avec lui, Et sa force s’élèvera par mon nom.
25 I will extend his hand to the sea, And his right hand to the rivers.
Je mettrai sa main sur la mer, Et sa droite sur les fleuves.
26 He shall say to me, 'Thou art my father, My God, and the rock of my salvation!'
Lui, il m’invoquera: Tu es mon père, Mon Dieu et le rocher de mon salut!
27 I will also make him my first-born, Highest of the kings of the earth.
Et moi, je ferai de lui le premier-né, Le plus élevé des rois de la terre.
28 My mercy I will continue to him for ever; My covenant with him shall be steadfast.
Je lui conserverai toujours ma bonté, Et mon alliance lui sera fidèle;
29 I will make his family to endure for ever; And his throne shall be as lasting as the heavens.
Je rendrai sa postérité éternelle, Et son trône comme les jours des cieux.
30 Should his children forsake my law, And walk not in my statutes,
Si ses fils abandonnent ma loi Et ne marchent pas selon ses ordonnances,
31 Should they break my commandments, And observe not my precepts,
S’ils violent mes préceptes Et n’observent pas mes commandements,
32 I will punish their transgressions with a rod, And their iniquity with stripes.
Je punirai de la verge leurs transgressions, Et par des coups leurs iniquités;
33 But my kindness will I not withdraw from him, Nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
Mais je ne lui retirerai point ma bonté Et je ne trahirai pas ma fidélité,
34 I will not break my covenant, Nor alter what hath gone from my lips.
Je ne violerai point mon alliance Et je ne changerai pas ce qui est sorti de mes lèvres.
35 Once have I sworn in my holiness, That I will not be false unto David.
J’ai juré une fois par ma sainteté: Mentirai-je à David?
36 His family shall endure for ever, And his throne as the sun before me.
Sa postérité subsistera toujours; Son trône sera devant moi comme le soleil,
37 It shall be established for ever like the moon; Like the faithful witness in the sky.”
Comme la lune il aura une éternelle durée. Le témoin qui est dans le ciel est fidèle. (Pause)
38 But now thou forsakest and abhorrest, And art angry with, thine anointed.
Et pourtant, tu as rejeté, tu as repoussé! Tu t’es irrité contre ton oint!
39 Thou hast made void the covenant with thy servant; Thou hast cast his crown to the ground.
Tu as dédaigné l’alliance avec ton serviteur; Tu as abattu, profané sa couronne.
40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges; Thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin.
Tu as détruit toutes ses murailles, Tu as mis en ruines ses forteresses.
41 All who pass by plunder him; He is a reproach to his neighbors.
Tous les passants le dépouillent; Il est un objet d’opprobre pour ses voisins.
42 Thou hast lifted up the right hand of his enemies; Thou hast made all his adversaries to rejoice.
Tu as élevé la droite de ses adversaires, Tu as réjoui tous ses ennemis;
43 Yea, thou hast turned the edge of his sword, And made him unable to stand in battle.
Tu as fait reculer le tranchant de son glaive, Et tu ne l’as pas soutenu dans le combat.
44 Thou hast brought his glory to an end, And hast cast down his throne to the ground.
Tu as mis un terme à sa splendeur, Et tu as jeté son trône à terre;
45 Thou hast shortened the days of his youth; Thou hast covered him with shame.
Tu as abrégé les jours de sa jeunesse, Tu l’as couvert de honte. (Pause)
46 How long, O LORD! wilt thou hide thyself for ever? How long shall thine anger burn like fire?
Jusques à quand, Éternel! Te cacheras-tu sans cesse, Et ta fureur s’embrasera-t-elle comme le feu?
47 Remember how short is my life, To what frailty thou hast created all men!
Rappelle-toi ce qu’est la durée de ma vie, Et pour quel néant tu as créé tous les fils de l’homme.
Y a-t-il un homme qui puisse vivre et ne pas voir la mort, Qui puisse sauver son âme du séjour des morts? (Pause) (Sheol h7585)
49 Where, Lord, is thy former loving-kindness Which thou didst swear to David in thy truth?
Où sont, Seigneur! Tes bontés premières, Que tu juras à David dans ta fidélité?
50 Remember, O Lord! the reproach of thy servants, How I bear in my bosom the taunts of all the many nations,
Souviens-toi, Seigneur! De l’opprobre de tes serviteurs, Souviens-toi que je porte en mon sein tous les peuples nombreux;
51 With which thine enemies have reproached me, O LORD! With which they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed!
Souviens-toi des outrages de tes ennemis, ô Éternel! De leurs outrages contre les pas de ton oint.
52 [Praised be Jehovah for ever! Amen, yea, amen!]
Béni soit à jamais l’Éternel! Amen! Amen!
