Psalms 83
1 “A psalm of Asaph.” O God! keep not silence! Hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God!
Canto. Salmo di Asaf. O Dio, non startene cheto; non rimaner muto ed inerte, o Dio!
2 For, lo! thine enemies roar, And they who hate thee lift up their heads.
Poiché, ecco, i tuoi nemici si agitano rumorosamente, e quelli che t’odiano alzano il capo.
3 For they form secret plots against thy people, And consult together against thy chosen ones.
Tramano astuti disegni contro il tuo popolo, e si concertano contro quelli che tu nascondi presso di te.
4 “Come,” say they, “let us blot them out from the number of the nations, That the name of Israel may no more be remembered!”
Dicono: Venite, distruggiamoli come nazione, e il nome d’Israele non sia più ricordato.
5 With one consent they consult together, Against thee do they form a league, —
Poiché si son concertati con uno stesso sentimento, fanno un patto contro di te:
6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Of Moab and the Hagarenes,
le tende di Edom e gl’Ismaeliti; Moab e gli Hagareni;
7 Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, The Philistines, with the inhabitants of Tyre.
Ghebal, Ammon ed Amalek; la Filistia con gli abitanti di Tiro;
8 The Assyrians also are joined with them; They lend their strength to the children of Lot.
anche l’Assiria s’è aggiunta a loro; prestano il loro braccio ai figliuoli di Lot. (Sela)
9 Do to them as to the Midianites, As to Sisera, as to Jabin at the brook Kison,
Fa’ a loro come facesti a Midian, a Sisera, a Jabin presso al torrente di Chison,
10 Who perished at Endor, And were trampled like dung to the earth.
i quali furon distrutti a Endor, e serviron di letame alla terra.
11 Make their chiefs like Oreb and Zeeb; Yea, all their princes as Zeba and Zalmunna!
Rendi i loro capi simili ad Oreb e Zeeb, e tutti i loro principi simili a Zeba e Tsalmunna;
12 Who say, “Let us seize on God's habitations!”
poiché dicono: Impossessiamoci delle dimore di Dio.
13 Make them, O my God! like whirling chaff; Like stubble before the wind!
Dio mio, rendili simili al turbine, simili a stoppia dinanzi al vento.
14 As fire consumeth the forest, And as flame setteth the mountains in a blaze,
Come il fuoco brucia la foresta, e come la fiamma incendia i monti,
15 So pursue them with thy tempest, And terrify them with thy storm!
così perseguitali con la tua tempesta, e spaventali col tuo uragano.
16 Cover their faces with shame, That they may seek thy name, O LORD!
Cuopri la loro faccia di vituperio, onde cerchino il tuo nome, o Eterno!
17 Let them be confounded! Yea, let them be put to shame, and perish!
Siano svergognati e costernati in perpetuo, siano confusi e periscano!
18 That they may know that thy name alone is Jehovah; That thou art the Most High over all the earth.
E conoscano che tu, il cui nome e l’Eterno, sei il solo Altissimo sopra tutta la terra.
