Psalms 8

1 “For the leader of the music; to be accompanied with the gittith. A psalm of David.” O Jehovah, our Lord! How excellent is thy name in all the earth! Thou hast set thy glory above the heavens.

Al Capo de’ musici. Sulla Ghittea. Salmo di Davide. O Eterno, Signor nostro, quant’è magnifico il tuo nome in tutta la terra! O Tu che hai posta la tua maestà nei cieli.

2 Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained praise, To put thine adversaries to shame, And to silence the enemy and avenger.

Dalla bocca de’ fanciulli e de’ lattanti tu hai tratto una forza, per cagione de’ tuoi nemici, per ridurre al silenzio l’avversario e il vendicatore.

3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, The moon and the stars which thou hast ordained:

Quand’io considero i tuoi cieli, opra delle tue dita, la luna e le stelle che tu hai disposte,

4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him, And the son of man, that thou carest for him?

che cos’è l’uomo che tu n’abbia memoria? e il figliuol dell’uomo che tu ne prenda cura?

5 Yet thou hast made him little lower than God; Thou hast crowned him with glory and honor.

Eppure tu l’hai fatto poco minor di Dio, e l’hai coronato di gloria e d’onore.

6 Thou hast given him dominion over the works of thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet, —

Tu l’hai fatto signoreggiare sulle opere delle tue mani, hai posto ogni cosa sotto i suoi piedi:

7 All sheep and oxen, Yea, and the beasts of the forest;

pecore e buoi tutti quanti ed anche le fiere della campagna;

8 The birds of the air, and the fishes of the sea, And whatever passeth through the paths of the deep.

gli uccelli del cielo e i pesci del mare, tutto quel che percorre i sentieri de’ mari.

9 O Jehovah, our Lord, How excellent is thy name in all the earth!

O Eterno, Signor nostro, quant’è magnifico il tuo nome in tutta la terra!
