Psalms 73
1 “BOOK III. A psalm of Asaph.” Truly God is good to Israel, —To those who are pure in heart.
Psaume d'Asaph. Oui, Dieu est bon pour Israël, Pour ceux qui ont le coeur pur.
2 Yet my feet almost gave way; My steps had well nigh slipped:
Cependant, mes pieds ont failli broncher: Il s'en est fallu de peu que j'aie glissé!
3 For I was envious of the proud, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
En effet, j'ai porté envie aux orgueilleux, Quand j'ai vu la prospérité des méchants!
4 For they have no pains even to their death; Their bodies are in full health.
Car ils sont exempts de souffrance; Leur corps demeure vigoureux et robuste.
5 They have not the woes of other men, Neither are they smitten like other men.
Ils n'ont aucune part aux peines des mortels; Ils ne sont point frappés avec les autres humains.
6 Therefore pride encircleth their neck as a collar; Violence covereth them as a garment.
C'est pourquoi, ils se parent d'orgueil comme d'un collier; La violence les couvre comme un vêtement.
7 From their bosom issueth their iniquity; The designs of their hearts burst forth.
Ils sont bouffis de graisse, pleins d'iniquité, Et leur coeur déborde de mauvaises pensées.
8 They mock, and speak of malicious oppression; Their words are haughty;
Ils ricanent, ils se vantent méchamment de leurs violences; Leurs paroles sont hautaines.
9 They stretch forth their mouth to the heavens, And their tongue goeth through the earth;
Leur bouche s'élève contre le ciel, Et leur langue sème la calomnie sur la terre.
10 Therefore his people walk in their ways, And there drink from full fountains.
Aussi attirent-ils à leur cause une foule de gens Qui boivent avidement leurs paroles,
11 And they say, “How doth God know? How can there be knowledge with the Most High?”
Et qui disent: «Comment le Dieu fort pourrait-il savoir? Comment le Très-Haut connaîtrait-il?»
12 Behold these are the ungodly! Yet they are ever prosperous; they heap up riches.
Tels sont les méchants: Toujours heureux, ils amassent des richesses.
13 Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain; In vain have I washed my hands in innocence.
C'est donc en vain que j'ai gardé mon coeur pur, Et que j'ai lavé mes mains dans l'innocence;
14 For every day have I been smitten; Every morn have I been chastened.
Car je suis frappé tous les jours, Et le châtiment tombe chaque matin sur moi.
15 If I should resolve to speak like them, Surely I should be treacherous to the family of thy children.
Si j'avais dit: «Je parlerai comme eux» — Alors, j'aurais été infidèle à la race de tes enfants.
16 So, when I studied to know this, It was painful to my eyes;
J'ai donc cherché à comprendre ces choses; Mais la tâche a été trop pénible pour moi,
17 Until I went into the sanctuaries of God, And considered what was their end.
Jusqu'au moment où je suis entré Dans les sanctuaires du Dieu fort, Et où j'ai fait attention à la fin de ces gens-là.
18 Behold! thou hast set them on slippery places; Thou castest them down into unseen pits.
Oui, tu les mets sur un terrain glissant; Tu les fais tomber, et ils s'écroulent!
19 How are they brought to desolation in a moment, And utterly consumed with sudden destruction!
Comme ils sont détruits en un moment. Enlevés et consumés par une destruction soudaine!
20 As a dream when one awaketh, Thou, O Lord! when thou awakest, wilt make their vain show a derision.
Tel un songe, quand on s'éveille. Ainsi, Seigneur, quand tu te lèves, Tu les dissipes comme de vains fantômes.
21 When my heart was vexed And I was pierced in my reins,
Quand l'amertume remplissait mon coeur, Et que je me tourmentais en moi-même,
22 Then was I stupid and without understanding; I was like one of the brutes before thee.
Alors j'étais sans raison et sans intelligence; J'étais à tes yeux comme un animal stupide.
23 Yet am I ever under thy care; By my right hand thou dost hold me up.
Cependant, je resterai toujours avec toi: Tu m'as pris par la main droite.
24 Thou wilt guide me with thy counsel, And at last receive me in glory.
Tu me guideras par ta sagesse. Et puis, tu m'introduiras dans la gloire.
25 Whom have I in heaven but thee, And whom on earth do I love in comparison with thee?
Quel autre que toi ai-je au ciel? Sur la terre aussi, je ne prends plaisir qu'en toi.
26 Though my flesh and my heart fail, God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
Quand même ma chair et mon coeur seraient consumés, Dieu est le rocher de mon coeur, et mon partage pour toujours.
27 For, lo! they who are far from thee perish; Thou destroyest all who estrange themselves from thee.
Oui, ceux qui s'éloignent de toi périront; Tu détruis tous ceux qui se détournent de toi.
28 But it is good for me to draw near to God; I put my trust in the Lord Jehovah, That I may declare all thy works.
Pour moi, m'approcher de Dieu, c'est mon bonheur; Je mets ma confiance dans le Seigneur, l'Éternel, Afin de raconter toutes ses oeuvres.
