< Psalms 6 >

1 “For the leader of the music; to be accompanied with stringed instruments; to the octave. A psalm of David.” O LORD! rebuke me not in thine anger; Chasten me not in thy hot displeasure!
[For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments, upon the eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm by David.] LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger, neither discipline me in your wrath.
2 Have pity upon me, O LORD! for I am weak; Heal me, O LORD! for my bones tremble!
Be gracious to me, LORD, for I am frail. LORD, heal me, for my bones are trembling.
3 My soul, also, is sore troubled; And thou, O LORD! how long—?
And my soul is greatly troubled. But you, LORD, how long?
4 Return, O LORD! and deliver me; Oh, save me according to thy mercy!
Return, LORD. Deliver my soul. Save me because of your lovingkindness.
5 For in death no praise is given to thee; In the underworld who can give thee thanks? (Sheol h7585)
For in death there is no memory of you. In Sheol, who shall give you thanks? (Sheol h7585)
6 I am weary with my groaning; All the night I make my bed to swim, And drench my couch with my tears.
I am weary with my groaning. Every night I drench my bed; I melt my couch with my tears.
7 Mine eye is wasted with grief; It hath become old because of all my enemies.
My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.
8 Depart from me, all ye that do iniquity; For the LORD heareth the voice of my weeping.
Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for the LORD has heard the sound of my weeping.
9 The LORD heareth my supplication; The LORD accepteth my prayer.
The LORD has heard my plea. The LORD has accepted my prayer.
10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and utterly confounded; They shall be turned back, and put to shame suddenly.
May all my enemies be ashamed and greatly terrified. May they turn back, suddenly ashamed.
