Psalms 54

1 “For the leader of the music. To be sung on stringed instruments A psalm of David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, Doth not David hide himself with us?” Save me, O God! by thy name, And by thy strength defend my cause!

Voor muziekbegeleiding; met harpen. Een leerdicht van David, toen de Zifieten Saül kwamen melden: “David houdt zich bij ons schuil.” O God, kom mij te hulp door uw Naam, En verschaf mij recht door uw kracht.

2 O God! hear my prayer, Give ear to the words of my mouth!

Hoor naar mijn smeken, o God, Luister naar het gebed van mijn mond.

3 For enemies have risen up against me, And oppressors seek my life; They have not set God before their eyes. (Pause)

Want vreemden staan tegen mij op, En geweldenaars belagen mijn leven; Neen, ze houden God niet voor ogen.

4 Behold! God is my helper; The Lord is the support of my life.

Zie, God is mijn Helper; Het is de Heer, die mijn leven behoudt!

5 He will repay evil to my enemies; For thy truth's sake, O God! cut them off!

Wend de rampen op mijn vijanden af, Verniel ze om wille van uw trouw.

6 With a willing heart will I sacrifice to thee; I will praise thy name, O LORD! for it is good;

Dan zal ik U gaarne offers brengen, En danken, o Jahweh, de goedertierenheid van uw Naam;

7 For thou hast delivered me from all trouble, So that my eye hath looked with joy upon my enemies!

Omdat hij mij uit alle nood heeft verlost, En mijn oog zich aan mijn vijand verlustigt.
