Psalms 40
1 “For the leader of the music. A psalm of David.” I trusted steadfastly in the LORD, And he listened, and heard my cry.
Przewodnikowi chóru. Psalm Dawida. Z tęsknotą czekałem na PANA, a skłonił się ku mnie i wysłuchał mojego wołania.
2 He drew me out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay; He set my feet upon a rock, And made my steps firm.
Wyciągnął mnie ze strasznego dołu [i] z błota grząskiego [i] postawił moje stopy na skale, i umocnił moje kroki.
3 He hath put into my mouth a new song, A song of praise to our God. Many shall see, and fear, And put their trust in the LORD.
I włożył w moje usta nową pieśń, chwałę [dla] naszego Boga. Wielu to zobaczy i ulęknie się, i zaufa PANU.
4 Happy the man who maketh the LORD his trust, And resorteth not to men of pride and falsehood!
Błogosławiony człowiek, który pokłada w PANU swoją nadzieję, a nie ma względu na pysznych ani na tych, którzy podążają za kłamstwem.
5 Many, O LORD, my God! are the wonderful works which thou hast done; Many have been thy gracious purposes towards us; None can be compared to thee! Would I declare and rehearse them, they are more than can be numbered.
Wiele uczyniłeś cudów, PANIE, mój Boże, a twoich zamysłów wobec nas nikt nie potrafi wyliczyć przed tobą; gdybym chciał je opowiedzieć i ogłosić, jest ich więcej, niż zdołałbym wypowiedzieć.
6 In sacrifice and oblation thou hast no pleasure; Mine ears thou hast opened; Burnt-offering and sin-offering thou requirest not.
Ofiary i daru nie chciałeś, lecz otworzyłeś mi uszy; nie żądałeś całopalenia i ofiary za grzech.
7 Therefore I said, “Lo, I come; In the scroll of the book it is prescribed to me;
Wtedy powiedziałem: Oto przychodzę, na początku księgi jest napisane o mnie;
8 O my God! to do thy will is my delight, And thy law dwelleth in my heart!”
Pragnę czynić twoją wolę, mój Boże, a twoje prawo jest w moim wnętrzu.
9 I have proclaimed thy righteousness in the great assembly; Lo, I have not restrained my lips, O LORD! thou knowest!
Głosiłem [twoją] sprawiedliwość w wielkim zgromadzeniu; oto nie powściągałem moich ust; ty wiesz [o tym], PANIE.
10 I hide not thy justice in my heart; I declare thy faithfulness and thy salvation; I conceal not thy mercy and truth from the great assembly.
Twojej sprawiedliwości nie kryłem w głębi serca, opowiadałem twoją wierność i zbawienie; nie taiłem twego miłosierdzia i prawdy w wielkim zgromadzeniu.
11 Withdraw not from me thy tender mercies, O LORD! May thy loving-kindness and thy truth continually preserve me!
Dlatego ty, PANIE, nie odmawiaj mi twej litości; twoje miłosierdzie i prawda niech mnie zawsze strzegą.
12 For evils without number have encompassed me; My iniquities have overtaken me; I cannot see the end of them; They are more than the hairs of my head, And my heart dieth within me.
Otoczyły mnie bowiem nieszczęścia, których nie sposób zliczyć; dosięgły mnie moje nieprawości, tak że nie mogę [ich] przejrzeć; więcej ich niż włosów na mej głowie, więc serce we mnie ustaje.
13 May it please thee, O LORD! to deliver me! O LORD! make haste to mine aid!
PANIE, racz mnie ocalić; PANIE, pospiesz mi na pomoc.
14 May they all be confounded and covered with shame Who seek to take away my life! Let them be driven back with disgrace Who desire to do me injury!
Niech się zawiodą i zawstydzą wszyscy, którzy czyhają, by zatracić moją duszę; niech się cofną i zawstydzą ci, którzy mi źle życzą.
15 Let them be overwhelmed with confusion Who cry out to me, Aha! aha!
Niech będą spustoszeni wskutek swej hańby ci, którzy mi mówią: Ha, ha!
16 But let all who seek thee Be glad and rejoice in thee! Let those who love thy protection Ever say, “Great is Jehovah!”
Niech się radują i weselą w tobie wszyscy, którzy cię szukają; niech ci, którzy miłują twoje zbawienie, mówią zawsze: Niech PAN będzie wywyższony.
17 I am poor and afflicted, yet the Lord thinketh upon me; Thou art my help and my deliverer; My God! make no delay!
Ja [wprawdzie] jestem ubogi i nędzny, lecz Pan myśli o mnie. Ty jesteś moją pomocą i wybawicielem, mój Boże, nie zwlekaj.
