Psalms 146

1 Praise ye the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul!

Halleluja! Loof Jahweh mijn ziel!

2 I will praise the LORD, as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God, while I have my being.

Zolang ik leef, wil ik Jahweh prijzen, Mijn God verheerlijken, zolang ik besta!

3 Put not your trust in princes, In the son of man, in whom is no help!

Vertrouwt niet op vorsten, Op mensen, die niet kunnen helpen:

4 His breath goeth forth; he returneth to the dust; In that very day his plans perish.

Is hun adem heen, ze keren terug tot het stof, En het is met hun plannen gedaan.

5 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help; Whose hope is in the LORD, his God;

Gelukkig, wien de God van Jakob blijft helpen, Wiens hoop is gevestigd op Jahweh, zijn God:

6 Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is therein; Who keepeth truth for ever;

Die hemel en aarde heeft gemaakt, De zee met wat ze bevat. Jahweh, die trouw blijft voor eeuwig,

7 Who executeth judgment for the oppressed; Who giveth food to the hungry. The LORD setteth free the prisoners;

De verdrukten verdedigt, Brood aan de hongerigen reikt, En de gevangenen bevrijdt!

8 The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind; The LORD raiseth up them that are bowed down; The LORD loveth the righteous.

Jahweh opent de ogen der blinden, Jahweh richt de gebukten weer op; Jahweh heeft de rechtvaardigen lief,

9 The LORD preserveth the strangers; He relieveth the fatherless and the widow; But the way of the wicked he maketh crooked.

Jahweh draagt zorg voor de zwervers. Hij is een steun voor weduwen en wezen, Maar de bozen richt Hij te gronde:

10 The LORD shall reign for ever; Thy God, O Zion! to all generations! Praise ye the LORD!

Jahweh is Koning voor eeuwig; Uw God, o Sion, van geslacht tot geslacht!
