Psalms 101

1 “A psalm of David.” I will sing of mercy and justice; To thee, O LORD! will I sing!

Ég vil syngja um réttlætið og miskunnsemina. Ég vil lofsyngja þér, ó Guð!

2 I will have regard to the way of uprightness: When thou shalt come to me, I will walk within my house with an upright heart.

Ég, konungurinn, vil kappkosta að lifa heiðarlega og ganga um heimili mitt í grandvarleik – hjálpaðu mér til þess!

3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes; I hate the work of evil-doers; It shall not cleave to me.

Gefðu mér að forðast allt sem er gróft og ljótt – að fyrirlíta hið illa.

4 The perverse in heart shall be far from me; I will not know a wicked person.

Já, ég vil ekki vera sjálfselskur og vondur.

5 Whoso slandereth his neighbor in secret, him will I cut off; Him that hath a haughty look and a proud heart I will not endure.

Ég umber ekki þá sem baktala nágranna sinn, og hroka og dramb mun ég ekki þola.

6 Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; He that walketh in the way of uprightness shall serve me.

Ég leita uppi réttláta menn í landinu og kalla þá til starfa, að þeir búi hjá mér, – þeir einir sem grandvarir eru.

7 He who practiseth deceit shall not dwell in my house; He who telleth lies shall not remain in my sight.

Svikara og lygara þoli ég ekki í mínum húsum.

8 Every morning will I destroy the wicked of the land, That I may cut off all evil-doers from the city of the LORD.

Ég þagga niður í illmennunum í landinu og útrými úr borginni öllum óguðlegum.
