Proverbs 8
1 Doth not wisdom cry aloud, And understanding put forth her voice?
Eikö viisaus kutsu, eikö taito anna äänensä kuulua?
2 Upon the top of the high places, By the wayside, In the cross-ways, She taketh her station.
Ylös kummuille, tien viereen, polkujen risteyksiin hän on asettunut.
3 By the side of the gates, In the entrance of the city, In the approaches to the doors, she crieth aloud.
Porttien pielissä, kaupungin portilla, oviaukoissa hän huutaa:
4 “To you, O men! do I call, And my voice is to the sons of men!
"Teitä minä kutsun, miehet, ja ihmislapsille kaikuu minun ääneni.
5 O ye simple ones! learn wisdom, And ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart!
Tulkaa, yksinkertaiset, mieleviksi; tulkaa järkeviksi, te tyhmät.
6 Hear, for I speak excellent things, And my lips utter that which is right.
Kuulkaa, sillä jalosti minä puhun, ja avaan huuleni puhumaan, mikä oikein on;
7 For my mouth speaketh truth, And wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
sillä totuutta minun suuni haastaa, ja jumalattomuus on minun huulilleni kauhistus.
8 All the words of my mouth are in uprightness; There is nothing crooked or deceitful in them;
Vanhurskaat ovat minun suuni sanat kaikki, ei ole niissä mitään petollista, ei väärää.
9 They are all plain to the man of understanding, And right to those who find knowledge.
Ne ovat kaikki oikeat ymmärtäväiselle, suorat niille, jotka löysivät tiedon.
10 Receive my instruction, and not silver. And knowledge rather than choice gold!
Ottakaa minun kuritukseni, älkääkä hopeata, ja tieto ennen valituinta kultaa.
11 For wisdom is better than pearls, And no precious things are to be compared with her.
Sillä parempi on viisaus kuin helmet, eivät mitkään kalleudet vedä sille vertaa.
12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out the knowledge of sagacious counsels.
Minä, viisaus, olen perehtynyt mielevyyteen, olen löytänyt tiedon ja taidollisuuden.
13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, And the deceitful mouth, do I hate.
Herran pelko on pahan vihaamista. Kopeutta ja ylpeyttä, pahaa tietä ja kavalaa suuta minä vihaan.
14 Counsel is mine, and sound reason; I am understanding; I have strength.
Minulla on neuvo ja neuvokkuus; minä olen ymmärrys, minulla on voima.
15 By me kings reign, And princes decree justice.
Minun avullani kuninkaat hallitsevat, ruhtinaat säädöksensä vanhurskaasti säätävät.
16 By me princes rule, And nobles, even all the judges of the earth.
Minun avullani päämiehet vallitsevat ja ylhäiset, maan tuomarit kaikki.
17 I love them that love me, And they who seek me early shall find me.
Minä rakastan niitä, jotka minua rakastavat, ja jotka minua varhain etsivät, ne löytävät minut.
18 Riches and honor are with me; Yea, durable riches and prosperity.
Minun tykönäni on rikkaus ja kunnia, ikivanha varallisuus ja vanhurskaus.
19 My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold. And my revenue than choice silver.
Minun hedelmäni on parempi kuin kulta, kuin puhtain kulta, minun antamani voitto valituinta hopeata parempi.
20 I walk in the way of righteousness, In the midst of the paths of equity.
Minä vaellan vanhurskauden polkua, oikeuden teitten keskikohtaa,
21 I cause those who love me to possess substance; Yea, I fill their treasuries.
antaakseni niille, jotka minua rakastavat, pysyvän perinnön ja täyttääkseni heidän aarrekammionsa.
22 “The LORD created me, the firstling of his course, Before his works, of old;
Herra loi minut töittensä esikoiseksi, ensimmäiseksi teoistaan, ennen aikojen alkua.
23 I was anointed from everlasting, From the beginning, even before the earth was made.
Iankaikkisuudesta minä olen asetettu olemaan, alusta asti, hamasta maan ikiajoista.
24 When as yet there were no deeps, I was brought forth. When there were no springs, abounding with water.
Ennenkuin syvyyksiä oli, synnyin minä, ennenkuin oli lähteitä, vedestä rikkaita.
25 Before the mountains were settled, Yea, before the hills, I was brought forth;
Ennenkuin vuoret upotettiin paikoilleen, ennen kukkuloita, synnyin minä,
26 Ere yet he had made the land and the wastes, And the first of the clods of the earth.
kun hän ei vielä ollut tehnyt maata, ei mantua, ei maanpiirin tomujen alkuakaan.
27 When he framed the heavens, I was there; When he drew a circle upon the face of the deep;
Kun hän taivaat valmisti, olin minä siinä, kun hän veti piirin syvyyden pinnalle,
28 When he made firm the sky above, And the fountains of the deep rushed forth;
kun hän teki vahvoiksi pilvet korkeudessa, kun syvyyden lähteet saivat voiman,
29 When he gave to the sea its bounds, that the waters should not pass their border; When he marked out the foundations of the earth, —
kun hän merelle asetti sen rajat, että vedet eivät kävisi hänen käskynsä yli, kun hän vahvisti maan perustukset,
30 Then was I by him as a master-builder; I was his delight day by day, Exulting before him at all times;
silloin minä hänen sivullansa hoidokkina olin, ihastuksissani olin päivästä päivään ja leikitsin hänen edessänsä kaikin ajoin;
31 Exulting in the habitable part of his earth, And my delight was with the sons of men.
leikitsin hänen maanpiirinsä päällä, ja ihastukseni olivat ihmislapset.
32 “Now, therefore, ye children, hearken to me! For happy are they who keep my ways!
Siis te, lapset, kuulkaa minua; autuaat ne, jotka noudattavat minun teitäni!
33 Hear instruction, and be wise! Yea, reject it not!
Kuritusta kuulkaa, niin viisastutte; älkää sen antako mennä menojaan.
34 Happy the man who hearkeneth to me, Who watcheth day by day at my gates, Who waiteth at the posts of my doors;
Autuas se ihminen, joka minua kuulee, valvoo minun ovillani päivästä päivään, vartioitsee minun ovieni pieliä!
35 For he that findeth me findeth life, And obtaineth favor from the LORD;
Sillä joka minut löytää, löytää elämän ja saa Herran mielisuosion.
36 But he who misseth me doeth violence to himself; All they who hate me love death.”
Mutta joka menee minusta harhaan, saa vahingon sielullensa; kaikki, jotka minua vihaavat, rakastavat kuolemaa."
