Proverbs 6
1 My son, if thou hast become surety for another, If thou hast stricken hands for another,
૧મારા દીકરા, જો તું તારા પડોશીનો જામીન થયો હોય, જો તેં કોઈ પારકાને બદલે વચન આપ્યું હોય,
2 If thou hast become ensnared by the words of thy mouth, If thou hast been caught by the words of thy mouth,
૨તો તું તારા મુખના વચનોથી ફસાઈ ગયો છે, તું તારા મુખના શબ્દોને લીધે સપડાયો છે.
3 Do this now, my son, and rescue thyself, —Since thou hast fallen into the hands of thy neighbor, —Go, prostrate thyself, and be urgent with thy neighbor!
૩મારા દીકરા, એ બાબતમાં તું આટલું કરીને છૂટો થઈ જજે, તારા પડોશીની આગળ નમી જઈને કાલાવાલા કરજે.
4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids;
૪તારી આંખોને નિદ્રા લેવા ન દે અને તારી પાંપણોને ઢળવા દઈશ નહિ.
5 Rescue thyself, as a roe from the hand, And as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
૫જેમ હરણ શિકારીના હાથમાંથી છટકી જાય; પંખી જેમ પારધી પાસેથી છૂટી જાય, તેમ તું તારી જાતને છોડાવી લેજે.
6 Go to the ant, O sluggard! Consider her ways, and be wise!
૬હે આળસુ માણસ, તું કીડી પાસે જા, તેના માર્ગોનો વિચાર કરીને બુદ્ધિવાન થા.
7 She hath no governor, Nor overseer, nor ruler;
૭તેના પર કોઈ આગેવાન નથી, કોઈ આજ્ઞા કરનાર નથી, કે કોઈ માલિક નથી.
8 Yet she prepareth in the summer her food, She gathereth in the harvest her meat.
૮છતાંપણ તે ઉનાળાંમાં પોતાનાં અનાજનો, અને કાપણીની ઋતુમાં પોતાના ખોરાકનો સંગ્રહ કરે છે.
9 How long wilt thou lie in bed, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise from thy sleep?
૯ઓ આળસુ માણસ, તું ક્યાં સુધી સૂઈ રહેશે? તું ક્યારે તારી ઊંઘમાંથી ઊઠશે?
10 “A little sleep, —a little slumber, —A little folding of the hands to rest:”
૧૦તું કહે છે કે “હજી થોડોક આરામ, થોડીક ઊંઘ, અને પગ વાળીને થોડોક વિશ્રામ લેવા દો.”
11 So shall thy poverty come upon thee like a robber, Yea, thy want, as an armed man!
૧૧તો તું જાણજે કે ચોરની જેમ અને હથિયારબંધ લૂંટારાની જેમ ગરીબી તારા પર ત્રાટકશે.
12 A worthless wretch is the unrighteous man, Who walketh with a deceitful mouth;
૧૨નકામો માણસ અને દુષ્ટ માણસ ગેરમાર્ગે દોરનારી વાતોથી જીવન જીવે છે,
13 Who winketh with his eyes, Speaketh with his feet, And teacheth with his fingers.
૧૩તે પોતાની આંખોથી મીંચકારા મારી, પગથી ધૂળમાં નિશાનીઓ કરશે, અને આંગળીથી ઇશારો કરશે.
14 Fraud is in his heart; He deviseth mischief continually; He scattereth contentions.
૧૪તેના મનમાં કપટ છે, તે ખોટાં તરકટ રચ્યા કરે છે; અને તે હંમેશા કુસંપના બીજ રોપે છે.
15 Therefore shall calamity come upon him suddenly; In a moment shall he be destroyed, and that without remedy;
૧૫તેથી અચાનક તેના પર વિપત્તિનાં વાદળ ઘેરાય છે; અને તે એકાએક ભાંગીને ભૂક્કો થઈ જાય છે, તે ફરી બેઠો થઈ શકતો નથી.
16 These six things doth the LORD hate; Yea, seven are an abomination to him:
૧૬છ વાનાં યહોવાહ ધિક્કારે છે, હા સાત વાનાં તેમને કંટાળો ઉપજાવે છે:
17 Lofty eyes, a false tongue, And hands which shed innocent blood;
૧૭એટલે ગર્વિષ્ઠની આંખો, જૂઠું બોલનારની જીભ, નિર્દોષનું લોહી વહેવડાવનાર હાથ,
18 A heart that contriveth wicked devices; Feet that are swift in running to mischief,
૧૮દુષ્ટ યોજનાઓ રચનાર હૃદય, દુષ્ટતા કરવા માટે તરત દોડી જતા પગ,
19 A false witness, that uttereth lies, And him that soweth discord among brethren.
૧૯અસત્ય ઉચ્ચારનાર જૂઠો સાક્ષી, અને ભાઈઓમાં કુસંપનું બીજ વાવનાર માણસ.
20 Keep, O my son! the commandment of thy father, And forsake not the precepts of thy mother!
૨૦મારા દીકરા, તારા પિતાની આજ્ઞાઓનું પાલન કરજે અને તારી માતાની શિખામણો ભૂલીશ નહિ.
21 Bind them continually to thy heart, Tie them around thy neck!
૨૧એને સદા તારા હૃદયમાં બાંધી રાખજે; તેમને તારે ગળે બાંધ.
22 When thou goest forth, they shall guide thee; When thou sleepest, they shall watch over thee; And, when thou awakest, they shall talk with thee.
૨૨જ્યારે તું ચાલતો હોઈશ ત્યારે તેઓ તને માર્ગદર્શન આપશે; જ્યારે તું ઊંઘતો હશે ત્યારે તેઓ તારી ચોકી કરશે; અને જ્યારે તું જાગતો હશે ત્યારે તેઓ તારી સાથે વાતચીત કરશે.
23 For the commandment is a lamp, and instruction a light; Yea, the rebukes of correction lead to life.
૨૩કેમ કે આજ્ઞા તે દીપક છે, અને નિયમ તે પ્રકાશ છે; અને ઠપકો તથા શિક્ષણ તે જીવનના માર્ગદર્શક છે.
24 They shall guard thee from the evil woman, From the smooth tongue of the unchaste woman.
૨૪તે તને ખરાબ સ્ત્રીથી રક્ષણ આપશે, પરસ્ત્રીની લોભામણી વાણીથી તને બચાવશે.
25 Desire not her beauty in thy heart, Nor let her catch thee with her eyelids;
૨૫તારું અંતઃકરણ તેના સૌંદર્ય પર મોહિત ન થાય, અને તેની આંખનાં પોપચાંથી તું સપડાઈશ નહિ.
26 For by a harlot a man is brought to a morsel of bread, And the adulteress layeth snares for the precious life.
૨૬કારણ કે ગણિકાને ચૂકવવાનું મુલ્ય રોટલીના ટુકડા જેવું નજીવું છે, પણ વ્યભિચારિણી સ્ત્રી પુરુષના મૂલ્યવાન જીવનનો શિકાર કરશે.
27 Can a man take fire into his bosom, And his clothes not be burned?
૨૭જો કોઈ માણસ અગ્નિ પોતાને છાતીએ રાખે તો તેનું વસ્ત્ર સળગ્યા વિના ન રહે?
28 Can one walk upon burning coals, And his feet not be scorched?
૨૮જો કોઈ માણસ અંગારા પર ચાલે તો શું તેના પગ દાઝયા વગર રહે?
29 So is it with him who goeth in to his neighbor's wife; Whoever toucheth her shall not go unpunished.
૨૯એટલે કોઈ તેના પાડોશીની પત્ની પાસે જાય છે અને તેને સ્પર્શ કરે છે; તેને શિક્ષા થયા વિના રહેતી નથી.
30 Men do not overlook a thief, Though he steal to satisfy his appetite, when he is hungry;
૩૦જો કોઈ માણસ ભૂખ સંતોષવા ચોરી કરે તો લોકો એવા માણસને ધિક્કારતા નથી.
31 If found, he must repay sevenfold, And give up all the substance of his house.
૩૧પણ જો તે પકડાય છે તો તેણે ચોરી કરી હોય તેના કરતાં સાતગણું પાછું આપવું પડે છે; તેણે પોતાના ઘરની સઘળી સંપત્તિ સોંપી દેવી પડે છે.
32 Whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding; He that doeth it destroyeth himself;
૩૨જે પરસ્ત્રી સાથે વ્યભિચાર કરે છે તે અક્કલહીન છે, તે પોતાની જાતે પોતાનું જીવન બરબાદ કરે છે.
33 Blows and dishonor shall he get, And his reproach shall not be wiped away.
૩૩તેને ઘા તથા અપમાન જ મળશે, અને તેનું કલંક કદી ભૂંસાશે નહિ.
34 For jealousy is the fury of a man; He will not spare in the day of vengeance;
૩૪કેમ કે વહેમ એ પુરુષનો કાળ છે; અને તે વૈર વાળતી વખતે જરાય દયા રાખશે નહિ.
35 And he will not pay regard to any ransom, Nor be content, though thou offer many gifts.
૩૫તે કોઈ બદલો સ્વીકારશે નહિ, તું તેને ઘણી ભેટો આપશે, તો પણ તે સંતોષ પામશે નહિ.
